| if I understand the meaning of the term, it's not a harem. Nor is it a series of individual love stories like Amagami SS (omnibus format). Love polygon usually implies multiple couples and various love interests sometimes overlapping in love triangles. I haven't seen a lot of shows like that. Nagi no Asu kara is the purest example I can think of. I thought it was pretty good but not great. it was kind of annoying with way too many characters making a big fucking deal and bursting into tears over the slightest little thing. |

| I don't think that genre is inherently better or worse than standard romance, but for some reason all of my favorite romance anime are love polygons. And feeling pity for the unchosen one isn't an issue, it may even be a plus if done well. |

| Essentially love polygon's are a tiring exercise when executed poorly, if a love polygon is comprised of one female/male character and all the other characters are the opposite gender it's mostly guaranteed to be poorly written, there are of course exceptions. Like the least you could do is add another female/male character in there somewhere. Anyway I think that in most boring love polygons the winners are the characters that don't end up with the main character. |

Not to mention a lot of times the one who does win is usually the one who's a more walking red flag. Especially in shoujo/josei, it unironically plays into the "girls only choose the douchebags" schlick, but then tries to justify it by making the nice guy secretly is an asshole or smth like "haha bet you didn't see that coming!" And then shounen where they somehow manage to pick the girl that has the least chemistry with the ML because reasonsfor the sole reason that there is always a person who ends up losing in love battle or compromise her/his love for another person? when you have love triangle moments like in Ase to Sekken on the other hand, then ya it isn't too bad, because no one is acting like a braindead moron. I mean sure there's the feelsbadman aspect for the losing girl, but also happy that things ended nicely |

| Yes. Because none of them become a poly relationship. So default. It's horrid. Plus it's about 10x more dramatic then regular romance and I just can't stomach that. |
