so 2 days ago i got myself a brand new 4k tv and watching anime on max 1080p quality looks very ugly to me, but when i watch the same anime on my old 1080p LED tv from 2013 and set the quality on 1080p it looks great and very hd.

back to the question where can i watch anime in 4k? because watching 1080p anime on my new 4k tv is really ugly. the 4k tv is from panasonic by the way

edit: the anime that im referring to is hunter x hunter 2011

There is no native 4k anime that I know of apart from that tech demo by Production IG and Netflix. 4k TVs have real time upscaling crap built in that look decent.
EDIT: Old stuff shot on film can get decent 4k rereleases if they put in the effort but nobody's doing it right now.

I think you are going about this the wrong way. 1st something has to actually be released in 4k for it to make any difference. From what I understand there is only about a hand full of titles that have actually been released in 4k and most are just re-released Anime movies from over two decades ago.

edit: High fidelity and quality can be a double edged sword. For instance if you are mostly watching things streamed from web sources on a 4k TV, it's going to look like shit because the imperfections of the streaming quality will stand out more then if you are watching something that was made for standard 1080p resolution.

ah production ig,kyoani and ufotable always come up with something that look good on 4k, something that other anime studios must learn. so other than anime movies with decent 4k upscale i cant get a decent anything!! thats a shame

Anime produced in 4k doesn't even exist as far as I'm aware.

Lol I've also 4k TV.
But sadly enough, there's only 1080p anime available.

This reminds of the dilemma when wide screen High Definition TVs were 1st introduced. There was only a handful of TV stations that were actually broadcasting in High Definition 720p and 1080p so for about 99% of TV was still 480p Standard Definition equivalent to 640 Width in pixels until the very late 2000's. So you would be watching TV that looks like a square inside a rectangle unless you set up to watch things to stretch to fit the entire screen which would completely distort your viewing experience.

I heard that Amazon Prime and Disney+ offer some content in 4k but it's still extremely limited and the likelihood of any being Anime is beyond low to non-existent.

It probably won't be till the late 2020's for all programs to start broadcasting to a 4k standard and by then something new will probably be introduced that will eventually replace 4k too.

4k monitors have really only been practical for gaming and movies and this hasn't change much since 2012.

the anime cabal doesnt want you to download high quality files (literally read nyaa rules, and look at most babby friendly encoder software)

so you have to do it yourself the 1337 haxxor ways

https://write.corbpie.com/upscale-1080p-video-to-4k-with-ffmpeg/

if this tutorial is too complex you are not meant for the holy grail of 4k anime files

I own three 4k monitor too that are setup to my desktop computer. Anime doesn't necessarily look like shit that is produced in 1080p, but you see imperfections in the picture quality that doesn't show up in 1080p. Whether this would bother someone or not is another question. Since 4k video is suppose to be about High fidelity it's equivalent to listening to audio that was recorded on a single channel and trying to listen to it on a state of the art stereo system.

yes i sometimes witness some strange "video stretching" when i watch anime on my 4k panasonic tv and the problem doesnt really show up in 1080p screen at all. its a little annoying but can be bothersome.

Since 4k video is suppose to be about High fidelity it's equivalent to listening to audio that was recorded on a single channel and trying to listen to it on a state of the art stereo system
can you explain this in easy words?

Mono recordings are recorded on a single channel that is only meant to be play through only one speaker. While a stereo system makes practical use of 2 channel recordings that has the potential to broadcast and distribute unevenly specific sounds and/or frequencies based on timing to come out of two or more speakers to add ambience.

Using a stereo system to play a mono recording will work but it's not really true stereo since it's output will still be identical coming out of each speaker. This makes using two or more speakers irrelevant and redundant other then to amplify a mono recording using a stereo system.

It's become pretty standard that modern audio for music is at least recorded using two channels so each speaker won't have an identical output.

Is the TV hooked up to the computer or is it a separate TV?

If it's the former, you could try 'Anime4K' which uses mpv player (you have to download it) to ai upscale anime to 4K. Produces some very nice results especially with modern art styles. It's sorta similar to the method romagia mentioned but much simpler to use

if it's the latter then better find a long display cable :P
well it's a Separate TV so do I have to connect my mobile/pc/laptop to my new 4k tv? Like in a wired or wireless mode? If it's the wireless mode then it means that I have to cast it on screen right?

I'd connect it wired first to ensure best case scenario. Theoretically wireless should work too but I can't say for sure (plus a lot of casting services require a premium charge to enable 4K streaming wireless)

Netflix. It depends if the show is made with 4k in mind. I think you should buy a chrome cast. That is how I stream from my phone/laptop. It also has my streaming services easily accessible.

Almost anything recorded to film and released in 4K is native 4K. Doesn't matter if it's been grain-managed, like Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Lupin III: Cagliostro. They may be softened from the 35 mm, but are native 4K.

did you said that casting services require charges??? That's the first time I'm hearing this in my life. I thought that's an inbuilt feature. But premium charges that's bullshit

Sorry but I dont pay for legal subscriptions and I'm aware that netflix supports 4k quality if you buy their 4k subscription service. Also my 4k tv has inbuilt chromecast so I dont need to buy it at all

the max native resolution of anime is still 1080p anyway

"This is insane. One can get to 4K resolution with computer graphics and proper digital techniques, but to hand draw it? Even when one uses CG et al. for assistance, the workload and unique characteristics would mean that those animators and staff that work on this have to be paid more. I cannot approve of such a project without any clear promise of a systematic better treatment for animators and related staff."

Casting in 4K usually requires you to purchase it from most free casting apps. Usually the free options are limited to 1080p at best (but this is for mobile idk if casting apps on desktop are different)
