| Considering how popular yuri and yaoi are in the manga/anime community (especially among heterosexual people of the opposite sex of the characters) I think homophobia is probably lower among anime fans than the general population. I think a lot of heterosexual males resent the prevalence of yaoi in the industry just because it isn't something they're into, but that doesn't mean they're homophobic, in fact a lot of those same people like yuri, meaning they're at least partially supportive of the practice even if they don't want to watch/read stuff about their own sex being in love with each other. |

In such puritanical sexual countries the interaction with the opposite sex is not quite allowed f you are not married or in a serious relationship with that person, meaning that such people interact more with people of the same sex but are never allowed to have a relation with people of the same sex so this can lead to some frustration or insecurity about their own sexuality |

There are actually quite a few Mainstream Anime today that encourage homosexuality without it being overtly the main theme of the series. You can look at titles like "Akame ga Kill!", "Psycho Pass", "Sailor Moon", etc... there are probably dozens more examples. Homosexuality in japan dates back way before the 'Meiji period" and isn't even half as taboo as it once was in the west. |

But it also surprised me how vocal some people are about it, as if it's something to be praised for. However it's not only homophobic people who could shit on bl/gl manga/anime/drama, I mean most are fetishizing shit and an insult to actual Lgbtq+ people. |

| I hate romance in general be it straight or gay so there is that as i hate the genre but not the people as too many people i know are either gay or bi but most people who show this kind of hate towards people are very insecure about their own sexuality or think that ohh if i show any kind of tolerance towards these kind of people then i am gonna be seen as lgbt supporter so they basically trash to feel superior or are closeted gay. Thats why if a man shows any ounce of emotion or loves any kind of things which are girly are instantly labelled as gay or feminine which is nothing but insecure people trying to flaunt their masculinity but it comes as homophobic. Also in anime and manga lgbt is shown NOT in good light like most of the times, recently komi san is showing this lesbian character who is constantly horny for komi, which is kinda disheartening so see sometimes. |
