Dunno why, but i just find old anime with 1080p real formatting to be much better than newest anime in 1080p, it's highlighting the animation much better than new anime that is just made with HD as the regular resolution. From those anime I have are Hikaru No Go, Cowboy Bepop and (yeah it's kinda amazing) Yuu Yuu Hakusho. (apart from those I also have DBK in this resolution but that's different case)

Does other people thinks like me?

Older anime that have been remastered from a 16mm or 35mm film print will look great if a company is willing to go through the work of doing it.

The Blu-ray of "Mirai Shounen Conan" looks fantastic.

the difference is compression youre talking about BD Discs vs (legal) streaming encoding here especially that film grain is only available on BD Discs

If both come under the same quality, then it is a matter of what you prefer over another.

I actually want to see more old anime in such quality tho

the thing about older anime is mostly the old techniques using different colours and more quality on the art department, i just find new anime animation most being trash compare to them when i watch them in 1080p. (i'm of course talking about those with great art)

for comparison:

hikaru no go (2004)

planetes (kinda forget i got this recently)

fruits basket

Yeah but I personally just prefer 1080p old anime only because of the look of cel animation, never found trouble with the encoding of anime.

Digital anime and occasionally CG looks good but cel animation has a certain look that I find pleasing.

that's what i actually meant, that the old animation style makes with the 1080p resolution is gorgeous.
wonder why it isn't clear what i meant...

Could be how you worded the thread, when you said formatting I thought you meant encoding/compression and how downloaded/torrent anime looks better than streaming anime.

Yeah I agree high res old anime look amazing, honestly the lack of high resolution is what's keeping me away from certain older anime.

the usual old anime i love to watch have great animation anyway so mostly i don't care.
and you can sure find good qualities of old anime though being lower resolution.
(like, i damn have FMA03 in 720p though it's more like conserving the 480p)

i meant by HD conversion by the fact there's some anime that are so-called 1080p which is actually 720p or upscaled 480p. my naruto batch episodes are 720p though it's only 480p, and shippudden is 1080p both for the old 4:3 episode and the latest episodes, it's just looking upscaled. on the other hand i have beautiful 1080p episodes of hikaru no go. it doesn't even come to comparison. check the screenshots i gave above.

and i don't like streaming anime. apart from the fact hd resolution mostly look awful, i prefer having all the episodes in my hardisck for the name of collection and future rewatching, rather than trusting streaming sites and my low internet connection.

I don't know about Hikaru no Go; it's a 2001 show that was most likely animated in digital SD. But yeah, older anime created in the cel era can certainly look great if they get remastered in HD with new film scans, as long as the disc authoring process doesn't try to smooth out too much film grain and destroy any semblance of detail in the process. Unfortunately, not all Blu-Rays of older anime are actually remasters like this; many are just digital upscales from the old analog masters.

Though a lot of the older shows that get actual remastered Blu-Rays in Japan don't necessarily get re-released here in the US, and I generally don't download 1080p at all, let alone 1080p files that run 4-5 GB per episode.

Everything that connects to MAL

Contains Ecchi, but not Tagged Ecchi: Part 1 || Part 2 || Part 3

how did you come at 4-5gb? most of my 1080p files are around 300-500mb, with today encoding it's just possible without losing quality. (the screenshot from fruits basket i gave in earlier post is only 367mb, the whole fruits basket remake 1080p batch (60+ episodes) is 28gb)

and when i meant older anime i didn't meant only cel animation but also 2000 anime, newest anime animation doesn't change much from each resolution, but those old anime have great deal about it when coming into BD qualities.

edit:
check this yuu yuu hakusho 1080p for example:

size: 394mb

hunter x hunter:

size: 169mb

uchuu kyoudai:

size: 230mb

Yup. Remasters of old anime really excentuate the beauty of old cel animation and hand-painted backgrounds so well. Though I really hate when they crop it to make it 16:9 and thus removing good chunk of the screen and information.

I watched the Arcadia of my Youth movie couple of days ago and I couldn't stop myself from taking screenshots (made a bunch of them). Also currently watching Ashita no Joe 2 and it looks so good. Old DVD rips really do a great disservice to old anime.

when they do 16:9 crop most of the time the conversation is losing it's effect, aka DBK.

Old anime has more soul to me, new anime can look great, but often looks somewhat sterile/formulaic, but there's certainly some exceptions.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

I'm just glad so many film masters were not thrown away.
