There's a lot to think about when thinking of experience as an anime watcher and everyone has a different way of thinking about it. Experience could be the amount and variety of anime watched, years of watching, amount of episodes watched, common knowledge and ability to talk about anything anime related, anything. Personally I'd say that even though I have around 13k episodes and over 600 anime watched I don't see myself as an experienced watcher, my anime watched are not too varied, mostly being long runners and their sequels. |

Interestingly, you have less than twice my anime watched, but nearly 4 times days spent watching than I do. Ultimately it depends on the subject, and wether you're interested in certain genres/learning about the animation process. Am I an experienced battle shonen/ecchi/modern anime watcher? Nope. Am I more experienced about older anime than you despite having only 60 days watched? Probably. Am I vaguely knowledgeable about animation techniques? Yes. About seiyus and studios? Not at all. Once again everyone flocks to a certain aspect based on their interests. |

I don't even know what defines an experienced watcher. |
Everyone has times when they've come up against a wall and feel like giving up on everything and running away. But you mustn't forget that during these times when the going is rough, the soul inside of you will try to create something to break through that wall. And don't forget that in your suffering there is something very precious. We're all suffering in agony with our troublesome lives. Sometimes it comes to tears. When that happens, let it flow as much as it wants. If it still doesn't stop flowing, then we'll come and mop it up. - Gintoki |

i tried breaking things down into ranks. So like: 1-10 Anime Completed - Noob Level 10-20 Anime Completed - Beginner Level Around 20-40 Anime Completed - Modern Average Level Around 50-99 Anime Completed - Intermediate Level 100+ Anime Completed - Advanced Level And if you've watched over 10,000 episodes of anime, then that's Pro Level I'm at the intermediate level I don't consider myself expirienced cause I mainly only focus on the mainstream anime, and I just got started a couple of years ago. |

I may not have watched very many series compared to most MAL users. But I would consider myself experienced in the sense that I've watched anime for many years. |

I would say I'm experienced. I haven't seen as many anime as a lot of others but still a fair amount. But binging anime doesn't necessarily mean you are experienced. I could double my list if I watched more anime at 2x speed and with fewer episodes. But I do have over 300 anime under my belt encompassing many genres and from many decades. Short anime and long running anime, must watch anime and obscure. Also I've been watching anime for just over 30 years. |

Yes. I can watch every genre and I have seen a lot of anime. I have like 270 days spent watching anime. I think I started anime back in 2012. I have only seen 482 anime but I have rewatched about 300 of them. I can appreciate old stuff like Ginga Nagareboshi Gin which is my childhood and an amazing show and newer stuff like Jojo, or HxH. Lately I have noticed that I watch pretty much only anime. |

What? Oh no, I meant entire anime series equal as one. I don't count individual seasons. For example, I watched 4 seasons of Attack on Titan, but I only count Attack on titan as 1 whole series. |

It really does depend on the context, I have only watched anime for over 2 years and I see myself as more experienced than others. I would say no if I was comparing to people with lots more shows completed than me. It also depends on your willingness to try or experience different genres or styles maybe. |

I think of myself as a more seasoned anime watcher. I have been watching anime since I was a young lad. Never really stopped watching but for work or life getting in the way in-between now and then. My anime tastes have morphed over the years in some good ways and bad. I look out for different things about a show, I look at the voice acting and music. Animation is a big thing for me too nowadays. There are still so many shows I want to watch, but seem to never have time to sit down and watch while keeping up with the current season. I do not think I am the most experienced anime watcher by any means, but I do love tyo sit around and discuss my favorite anime's with people who also enjoy anime. |

I do too much before just watching anime. I select every anime by my mood and how can that anime can justify my time etc. After watching I rate them episode by episode. Make average rating. Write down every anime in my notebook. Then convert the rating to mal equivalent score. Then update them in mal. Then talk about them... ... well I think I am expert after doing same things ONLY for anime for a Long time. |

You can't really determine if someone is experienced just by how long/ how many shows they have watched. Someone could have 100+ days of just battle shonen or have 500+ shows of just post-2010's light novel adaptations. Or someone could watch a wide variety of anime but still not know a thing about the technical aspects of anime. Also, the Dunning Kruger effect is at play here If anything I'd say I am more experienced than most so If you think about it in terms of percentiles I'd say I am somewhere in the 55th-70th percentile but I am probably over-estimating a bit |

And also for example why I said that I don't see myself as experienced as most of what I have on my list are sequels and long runners which makes my list look like there's a lot there. (And the feeling of not having experience as I haven't really watched much new series post 2016). So my question is mostly based on how people feel like. |

I've seen a majority of all of animes big touchstones things like Ashita no Joe, Uchuu senkan Yamato a bit of Urusei Yatsura etc. so I probably fall into expert better than basically anyone here. But the rabbit hole is much deeper than people seem to really fathom. Things like members of the sakuga community being able to recognize animators by watching their animation cuts. If you read proper academic essays of anime there's a huge layer of history I'm not privy to. There is also the AWO podcast run by decades-long industry professionals and when they do their yearly trivia episode I only know maybe 5 answers. |

I'd say yes, as I've been watching anime since 1992, and I know a decent amount about the medium. Ironically, there's people here nearly 20 years younger than me, that have watched more anime than I have. I don't know why someone would spend that much time watching anime. Although, you couldn't stream or download anime back when I started watching, and you were limited to what was on TV, or at your local video store, so there weren't many ways to see other anime back in the 90s and early 2000s. |
