| Ginko is popular, at least among people who have watched Mushishi. I can think some MCs that I think less popular in regard to their series/franchise. - Higashikata Josuke (DiU). I believe he is less popular than Joseph, Jotaro and Giorno. - Akihisa Yoshii (Baka to Test). Baka to Test has many quirky characters. Hideyoshi and Muttsurini are more popular but I think Akihisa is also a really likeable protagonist. - Matsumae Ohana (Hanasaku Iroha). I like Ohana is not because she has a good personality but rather because of her flaws. She thought and did stupid thing, but it made her more like a common naive girl teenager to me. - Kurosaki Ichigo (Bleach). I think Ichigo was a fresh breeze to action-shounen MCs which saturated with same-type typical common MCs. Too bad he was also ruined by too many plot armor so he kinda lost his uniqueness. - Kamijou Touma (Index). I heard that the reason many Railgun fans hate Index is because they think that Touma is a bad MC. I disagree with that. He is actually a fine character. it's just like Ichigo, my only problem is he has too many plot armor. But unlike Ichigo, I don't think he lost his personality after that. The real problem why Index is bad is in the anime itself, it's not Touma's fault imo. |

| In terms of more people dislike than like? Hmm, maybe Subaru and Asta. maybe I'm wropng, but I've seen way more people openly shit on them than applaud them for any sort of thing. I really like their type of character, though. I also really like Rebecca from One Piece. In terms of overlooked? I think Koala from One Piece would fit that bill, also to an extent Kousaka Honoka, and while people tend to say that like her they like her, they at the same time express that she's their least favorite out of the μ's. But she's awesome in every way. Also what SideTiePanties said. I don't like MHA, but Deku gets a lot more hate than he deserves imo, he's always doing his best to become better. He becomes more confident as time goes on and fuck if he doesn't work out. I don't find him annoying whatsoever either, he has a very understandable and relatable pain and works hard to overcome that. From the mid-Hero License arc, honestly, I feel like Deku's personality becomes way more badass. |

| Tomoko kuroki(watamote) considering how she is an accurate representation of degenerate loners. The other one would be Rei kiriyama(3-gatsu no lion) for the most well written introverted character. Kumiko Oumae (Hibike! euphonium) and Ohana Matsumae (Hanasaku iroha) are some of the most well written female MCs but they don't get enough love especially the latter. |

| I'd say Jonathan Joestar, he comes from a popular series, but he tends to be vastly overlooked compared to his descendants. I mean he's idealistic and some people instantly hate that, but I prefer him over, say, Emiya Shirou. I agree about the anime being the problem for not making Touma look better. He's great in the novel and has some character development of his own in New Testament. JC just omitted a bunch of dialogue and monologue of him so he feels kinda bland. |

Because saying whatever you want doesn't mean you're right and please don't use Touma beat others and survive logic by this logic every character who survives has plot armor at least in Touma's case it's explained. And funny you say he has plot armor when Touma has lost the most so how about doing some research before saying that. I always appreciate a fellow Touma defender 🫡 Anyway as you might have guessed, my vote goes to Kamijou Touma from the toaru series. So many people misunderstood his character (at least the anime onlies which I am an anime only on Index). If you can put aside your "Oh he's just a bland protagonist with hero complex", Touma is actually a very interesting character. He and had to fill that gap which is not very easy to do. Even though I haven't fully read the novels, I think the anime did enough of a decent job to show that while he likes to break other people's illusions, he's just as vulnerable as any other student in academy city. He just hid that well enough nobody except a few people who truly recognize him know what he's going through. |
