I swear I didn't mean this to be diversity thingy.

I just love darker skin in anime guy and I'm so sad they are such a rarity let alone finding a well developed one???

Like Law and Aomine!!

Not many :(

And when there is one, especially in idol anime, they often feel kinda stereotypical foreigner :(

EDIT:
Alright Idk how ppl usually refer to skin color in the west tbh. Dark or tan or whatever you call it.
But what I meant is a darker skin like in Aomine and Jonah!
See the hot guy in my signature below for reference!

EDIT2:
OKAY I just read some comments.... omg I can't believe some ppl think I'm talking about black ppl or any other race from real world. When I talk anime, I never thought about real world. By dark skin, I only meant COLOR PALETTE OF THE CHARACTER. Holy shit. Should I use the words "character that have darker color palette for their skin"?

EDIT3:
I changed the title okay? Why ppl are so sensitive over skin color in anime, geez! For me it's no different than talking about how I love white hair in anime! smh.

DISCLAIMER:
I'm NOT talking about irl race nor about diversity. I'm talking about character design. The color palette for the skin.
Please refer to Aomine Daiki (and every character that I mentioned above), if you call it tan and not dark, so be it. What I meant is, darker color palette as opposed to lighter ones.
Aomine Daiki isn't even non-japanese. Should be obvious that I wasn't talking about race.

I have only seen One Piece up to the very start of that Dressrosa arc, but Law never looked dark skinned to me, unlike Robin, for instance.

Setsuna from Gundam 00 is kind of like that.

Can’t relate. I only like fair-skinned beauties.
The only dark-skinned boy I find attractive is Anubis from Kamigami no Asobi.

There is Prince Soma and Agni of Kuroshitsuji (they are not main characters but Prince Soma is so lovely).

There is also Huehuecoyotl in Mayonaka no Occult koumuin, which, despite looking more like a woman, is so beautiful and fun.

Ain't nothin' wrong with having the fever girl. Though I'm closer to cinnamon than dark chocolate, I still find it very flattering.

Dark/er skin plus white or blonde hair is literally my favorite combination ever in a character design. I agree there should be more.

It's gonna be a bit of a difficult task to create dark skinned and male mc, not because of the race, but because of the character himself. It's like the equivalent of an American making a Japanese person the main character of a story, unless they know about the life of one and put that in the story, there really won't be a reason the make the mc Japanese, and it would kinda seem desperate to appeal to other cultures,bc minorities are supah kewl.

Maybe Japanese girls are not into dark skinned guys(?) Can't relate though, if the character is great then skin color doesn't matter that much, characters have to please me with their personality not looks.

I like Guren/Touda from Shounen Onmyouji

First dark-skinned guy that comes up to mind is of course Brock from Pokémon:

He has some great (4Kids) lines like: "Hey, I know. I'll just use my trusty frying pan as a drying pan." & "These donuts are great. Nothing beats a jelly-filled donut."

um, do you mean like actually dark skinned or do you mean darker than pale?

The answer to the lack of of either is different so it's important to distinguish the two.

the reason there is less black folks is because the number of them in japan is so small that they seem out of place (no joke) To them, the moment they see someone who's even naturally darker brown it screams "foreigner." Unlike the US that is welcoming to all races, northern european and asian countries are extremely racial concentrated, to the point where even someone of the same skin color can be defined by which country they were born in -.- It's the reason why so many people laugh when a person claims racism in america.

As for a character being tanned, it's a big stigma that people who are deeply tanned are trouble makers, with the only exception being sports players (people who are visibly fit). Believe it or not, just about EVERYWHERE is extremely racial, and it's most prevalent in the entertainment industries.

thems the hard truths... I would actually like to see more dark skinned characters being main characters. I'd especially like to see dark skinned harem candidates that aren't gyaru girls for god's sake... I can only think of one off the top of my head and she was a saudi princess (ladies x butler)

Luffy isn't dark skin. At least, Law's skin is darker

But to be fair, the new art style white washed both Robin and Law, so yeah, that's too bad.

I don't know which skin is the canon one.

I wouldn't jump to conclusion of Robin's skin based on the anime. Oda needs to tell/explain what's going on.

Back to Luffy and Law. That image back from Sabaody Archipelago. The skins tones look same to me. Even after time-skip.

Whattt really?? Do I need to compare Law pre and post time skip too?? XD

Okay it's not too different I guess. Anyways, I prefer dark skinned Law, it's way hotter ; w ;

Yeah, sometimes anime change stuff from the original source. But Robin's skin had always been dark in the anime, so I thought it's her canon skin and I thought it fits her better and she looks better in dark skin :3 though that's just my personal preference. I won't stop loving her over her skin color XD I always love her pre time skip appearance more anyways. Her cleopatra inspired looks is just iconic. I miss her bangs, lol.

Oda said that in the real world Robin would be Russian. So she's white.
https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/SBS_Volume_56

OMG Russian??? That's like, the opposite of dark skin tho??! Ugghhh I blame the anime team for making her skin dark and let me too used to the dark skinned Robin :((((( She'd been dark skinned all this time so it sounds more like a retcon tbh, lolol.

Thanks for the info!!!

Well, I thought of the Russian majority (slavs) - who are white. But there are a lot of asian and turkic ethnicities here too - some are pretty dark-skinned. Oda never actually specified which ethnic group she belongs to - so you can probably choose any to your liking.

@CrimsonMidnight, @ItachiDxD, Oda needs to be hard on the animation studio. They better stick to specific skin tone, and if Oda needed to be specific to them, well...... that is why HTML colors codes exist.

Dark as in, idk, darker than fair skin? Like Aomine, the hot guy in my sig.

Guess it can't be helped but really :( even though it's fiction, it wouldn't hurt if mangaka take freedom more in making dark skinned MC...wouldn't it? I mean, Aomine is popular.... is it bcs he's a sports player? Granted, Aomine is only a side character, but still given a major role in the series.

Tbh, I just recently read Fujimaki Tadatoshi manga, Robot x Laserbeam, a golf manga. His next work after Kuroko no Basket. I was so happy because one of the MC reminds me a lot of Aomine, his dark skin and dark hair. But the manga got cancelled, so I guess I'm just pretty salty rn I guess :(

Even Aomine often made fun of "the ganguro dude" lol.

I don't care about this real world problem things... mangaka should just make more guy MC with darker skin :(

But in the end it can't be helped I guess, sad indeed.

I'm gonna say habit. I myself don't have many dark skinned characters, because I only come up with them when I have a design, but that design doesn't work with light skin, so I try dark skin to see if it looks better that way
