For example @Lyft @Facebook @Uber both use phone numbers to verify accounts. @LeagueOfLegends uses 1 email per account. There are many other ways of handling this. @Transformice Allows you to have multiple accounts but all under the same email. Look into that one that site has horrible trafficking but they still get the job done. And almost none of these are rating/review oriented. It is piss poor that this is the limit of MyAnimeList. Here’s some controversy Now eat it up. I see absolutely no problem with how MAL handle this and, beside that, there's no way I'd accept giving my phone number to random company like that. Requiring a phone numbet for signing in sounds like a worse solution that brings absolutely nothing positive to the website given how the new system work just fine. Lol what controversy? You're just salty that some shows are given better score than other. This is the reality, just accept it. |

Who even looks at the score and reviews on here to make a decision whether to watch a show or not. And really, the reviews on here are just awful anyway. The majority of anime fans already have their go to genres and stick with them. Really hope MAL doesn't end up a SJW mess like AnimeNewsNetwork did. So then Mal should sit and let people do whatever to the site? Believe it or not a lot of people do take the scores seriously and do take recommendation based off the score. I don't know how a site trying to fix an exploit that users use to manipulate scores means they are going the SJW route or whatever other bullshit that comes out of your mouth. Please think before writing. Pure ignorance! Then why when minority start to cry when majority like something? And force to manipulate scores from within? It doesn't matter from witch side it is manipulation is still manipulation. And if some anime is not your "cup of tea" doesn't mean it is bad. This move is forcing SJW views on majority - typical move. Once manipulation starts from within ratings loses all point and credibility. No it isn't. There is nothing to do with SJWs in this situation. Way to politicise a "meme" A guy manipulated the scores using his audience. The staff fixed it. That's it. |

You're just salty that some shows are given better score than other. This is the reality, just accept it. You do not have to provide a phone number. I mentioned email as another method of doing it. And you are wrong as providing a phone number would make it safer rather than not. I am referencing 2-Step verification. The way MAL handled this would only create more problems in the future. This entire event seems shady to me. IMDB has not had a problem with this before and most likely would not act on it. MAL: 7 day wait on a vote to process / 6 Months of planning. These statements are worthless jargon just to throw votes under the bus. And seeing how you mention that you are afraid to provide a number to this “random website” proves how fishy they handled this. Many programs provide 2-Step phone verification which includes but not limited to: @SummonersWar @WorldOfWarcraft @LeagueOfLegends @Blizzard Also because it seems you do not have a facebook. You sign up with your email. If their system believes your account seems ‘fake’ they ask for a phone number verification. They use it for no other malicious intent. If you suspect MyAnimeList using your phone number for malicious intent or commercial purposes, then I am pretty sure a lawsuit could be filed back (I am making that statement with no backing.) But in every case the phone number is just to verify your account it does not link a phone number to a service and if it does a complaint can be made. This is a solution that works. Eat this up too sharks. Thanks for the response. |

Way to wreck your site. Why not focus on those 1s and 10s from your top anime instead of lowering the scores of non popular ones even Bloom into you lose 0.4 and Symphogear XV lose 0.14.Nice fluctuation, very legit haha The actual F...? YagaKimi lost .4 points? What the heck? I am in general a fan of the changes, but I feel that there are some anime, that got hit without it deserving it. Especially Granbelm and YagaKimi. Granbelm was completely underrated and had a nice story and good characters, and even got me, a complete mecha-hater, to watch the complete show. And YagaKimi was such a compelling lovestory, that it was just pure enjoyment to watch it. I still rewatch that show like every two weeks, its just that good... keragamming said: MattheusHellion said: Jeivee said: paldinWS said: Jeivee said: Kinfin123 said: ... especially if you insist on allowing multiple seasons to have separate ranking (Gintama, looking at you) No, this would affect titles that had great seasons (3-gatsu no Lion S2, Shingeki no Kyojin S3 P2, Mob Psycho 100 S2, etc.) and titles that had bad seasons (One Punch Man, Nanatsu no Taizai, etc.) There's nothing wrong with each season being rated separately, it's that the score of each succeeding season being increasingly inflated. The only people watching season 2+ are people that finished and enjoyed season 1. You're not going to get the people who rated S1 as bad to come back and rate S2+ as also bad. The other problem is that when you look at the top 50 anime of all time, most of them are not separate shows, but seasons of the same show. If I were new to anime and wanted a list of suggestions, I could be forgiven for thinking that there's only about a dozen good anime and the rest are just mediocre or bad. Get those seasons off the top50 list. That's all. Play2X said: However, I do agree with you on the second point. I mean I love Gintama, and always find it funny when 3 of the Top 10 anime are Gintama, it isn't really all that helpful for a Top 100 List. No, not even close. You can't just say that something like Mob Psycho 100 and Mob Psycho 100 S2 should have shared scores. That something like One Punch Man and One Punch Man S2 should have shared scores. That something like Clannad and Clannad: After Story should have shared scores. A single season can be way different from their sequels. Some were exceptionally better, some were a huge disappointment. And remember, people rate most OVAs way lower than the main show. (e.g. Shokugeki no Soma) Freeing 10 slots from the Top 50 just to fuck with hundreds of other anime? No, it's not worth it. I disagree. Seasons are often just one or two arcs. The source material is viewed and judged as a whole so why shouldn't the same apply to anime and if some seasons are worse then their prequels or vice versa for reasons related to the business aspect of making an anime then so be it. Look at it this way, a complete adaptation is more likely to have a better score than a a series that is split into seasons. Do you think if fmab seasons would be split into 4 seasons do you think all 4 seasons would be all rated 9.23? Nope that would not be the case, fmab is where it is because it is a full adaptation/great adaptation you get the full package. So its way more complicated than it looks, but it would surely put all sequels at a disadvantage if we were to group all seasons into one. @Jeivee I agree with you, people aren't looking at the other side of the coin and not seeing the disadvantage that would be for sequel series. Stories should always be rated as a whole, it just wouldn't make sense to rate the stuff out of context. The optimal solution would of course to rate the show as a whole, and have that show up on the top anime side (simply because usually people will watch the whole thing if they like it), but also have seasons and even episodes rateable, but have those on a seperate list, like best seasons oder best episoders. Is this a lot of work? Yes, it is. Is this unreasonable. Yup, I think so. But to be perfectly honest, I don't see MAL doing changes in either direction either way. |

Take FACEBOOK as an example: You have to send back a phone number to verify the legitimacy of an account. Limit 1 account per phone number. Limit 1 account per email. Doing it this way just ruins voting polls. For example what if Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) was continuously raised higher than what it SHOULD BE over the years. I am disappointed. We can only create one account per email. Shut up. Just don't start a unnecessary rant without looking into things. This is the best they could do in here , except you know......... ignoring the situation. Which would have been pretty bad. With how they have handled it. They should have ignored it. Also what do you mean by, “...looking into things.” I know and use many services that limit 1 account per phone number and emails. @Lynnelxo I still fail to follow your logic. What's so unsafe on MAL anyway so that providing a phone number would change anything? I seriously don't get it. My account being hacked is not even part of the topic at hands, but it's also not something I worry about. MAL is not fishy. Regardless I don't want to provide my phone number for trivials reasons like that when the situation can be handled by functioning algorithm like how MAL did. Why do we need to bother everyone with stupid security measure for stupid number beside anime title when you can just implement a system which detect bots and illegitimate account? I thought we should use the technologies to help human, not to piss them with stupid and annoying security measure like giving personal info or playing a captcha game so hard that even the robot has higher chance of completing it rather than a regular human. The 6 months things is not a jargon. Just read the few last post of this thread : https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=245618&show=4786 |

I don't know how a site trying to fix an exploit that users use to manipulate scores means they are going the SJW route or whatever other bullshit that comes out of your mouth. Please think before writing. Pure ignorance! The ratings are a joke. The entire point of the website is that users control the ratings, which makes them unreliable at best. Some people decided to mess with the ratings for a laugh and MAL showed how joyless they are by throwing a hissy about how super cereal it is that one or two Youtubers wanted to have a laugh with their broken system. It's Netflix and Rotten Tomatoes all over again. And how does this makes my point invalid? Then are you saying they should not try to fix this problem? Like what is the point here? So basically if something is broken it should not be fix because it is broken already? So who else should be the one to score series other than the users here on mal? A f**ing ghost? Or perhaps big foot? Or maybe aliens? Like You guys make no sense at all. Or perhaps you are saying the person that created this website should be the only person to decide each series score/ranking to make the score reliable? It is as if you guys don't think before talking. Do you normally engage in such hyperbole when speaking to others or just people you think you have some smug, self-prescribed, sense of superiority over? You seem to be operating under the idea that the system is broken. As I said, the rating is decided by users of the site, so it is bound to be unreliable. It's not some objective score delivered by a neutral deity that cannot be altered at anytime, it's an aggregate based on votes that can be changed on a whim.[burp] Changing the way the system works is to take the votes out of the users' hands and enacting the will and bias of those running the site onto the scores[/burp]. And where is your proof of that? Proof of it happening or proof that the admins have an ulterior motive and are looking for a sneaky way to enact it...? |

Really hope MAL doesn't end up a SJW mess like AnimeNewsNetwork did. So then Mal should sit and let people do whatever to the site? I don't know how a site trying to fix an exploit that users use to manipulate scores means they are going the SJW route or whatever other bullshit that comes out of your mouth. I think that in a sense that became matter of principle - SJW forces their opinion on others, so it was a way to fight back and show that their manipulation won't influence others. But you manipulated the scores when Nux asked you right? So you DO listen to what he says. Maybe you ain't your "own man"? It wasn't a joke , it was the truth. I manipulated nothing! That is the truth. So from my perspective if my opinion is not counted by MAL, that proves that MAL is the one doing manipulation not other way around. P.S. Try look at my forum post if you haven't seen. Not from my Perspective! Jeez this still going on? Cant you just stop blaming one party or will it make head exlode? Mal did manipulated scores. They have no way to know witch score is legit and witch are not. (Shame they dont stopping 1/10 as they stopping 10/10 though) Also, each person manipulates scores when they votes. It just calling rating. was making a star wars joke LUL misquoted it though as a cox n' crendor joke Wow you that old? LOL nah i am like 21 born in 98. everyone knows a lil star wars. TBH the prequels are a great for meme watching. So much weird quotes and cool action. Not a star wars fan either though i just know most of it from references and Lego: Star Wars i've seen like 4 of the 12 and some of the Cgi and cartoon series. I did have a teacher who wrote the timeline down for star wars though. That must be badass teacher. Welp dont get others too fluff out by memes Yeah he is even has a boxer for a wife. I would name drop but that shizz is a bit revealing. And no harm was even incited from the meme. I literally don't mean to cause any harm from quoting star wars. |

Meh, I guess I am a bit too late to ask a question but I will ask it anyways: Does this affect the score of reviews too? People may have created account to upvote reviews to bring good or bad reviews to the top of the list too. |

However, I think that this is a very marginal phenomenon since the most highly rated review has +4000 votes or so. Furthermore, it does not seem as important as scores themselves since one is much likely to check a high score show with an awful top review than a show with less than 5 and excellent reviews, so the "damage" to potential viewers is quite limited. |

Did Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu get re-evaluated again ? After the first fix, it was at 9.07, and I just noticed it's now at 9.12 (which is great, and it deserves to be even higher) |
