Nice result considering the release date was pretty much at the end of that week. btw the full title was "Youjo Senki 5 : abyssus abyssum invocat" rather than just "youjo senki 5". mandatory cover pic just because :  hell yeah. |

You can't really compare Kore wa zombie desu ka? to Mondaiji for a simple reasn : it's not the same label so peoples taking the decisions aren't the same, and the requirement to do a second season are therefore not the same as well. In the last 5 years, Fujimi Fantasia bunko has done more than twice the anime adaptation sneaker bunko did. Furthermore, in the last 5 years, AFAIK sneaker bunko only did ONE sequel in anime adaptation, whereas Fujimi Fantasia bunko did several. That's clearly not the same. So simply comparing the effect on sales won't help you here. Yes it's important for their decision, definitely. So something not selling better after the first anime season will probably not get a second season. Probably.It depends on the circumstances for the label. For example, peoples have been saying that RnY will never get a second season due to poor LN sales. Well, just to point out, RnY is in the top 2 best seller of this editor, and it still doubled its sales /volume compared to before the anime. This woudnb't be enough to motivate dengeki bunko to make a sequel, but wouldn't this be enough for a smaller label company like Dash X bunko? We don't know. If anything, in RnY's case, the bigger problem is probably the BD sales. BEcause even if the editor wish to make a sequel, if no anime studio is ready to accept the contract due to the sales figure of the first season, that won't lead to anything, right. So it's really difficult to point out if yes or no something will get a sequel. In some case they're simply waiting for the anime boost to disappear before making a sequel to maximize the effect on LN sales. In other cases they really have no intention of doing one. And in some case their may be no studio ready to take the contract. |

| If DEEN doesn't want to animate a second season they can find someone who will. Many animation studios have no skin in the game at all, they are simply paid to do the animation work. Their payout does not change at all depending on how the discs sell. I don't know how much investment DEEN has in this one, if any, or if they're simply being paid to animate it. DEEN can certainly say no but I'm not sure they would have any reason to refuse the work unless they're overbooked. |
| Well it changes. The editor pays them indeed, but the studio also gets money from the BD sales. So if the BD sales are poor in the first season, other anime studio could think twice before accepting a contract knowing they'll only get money from one side and not two sides. Or they could accept. Not every studios have the same standards. Jut like not every editor has the same standards as well. |
