| First chapter had the action, second chapter had the story. If this stays as skillful all the way through, this will be a favorite for sure. |
| Yeah, I like how this Author decided to open up the manga, By explaining his past all at once instead of trying to put bits it pieces here and there leaving you dumbfounded until the end, but I wonder if this place called "Vinland" is gonna be like the "Paradise" in wolf's rain and he's gonna set out on a journey to find it... I kind've hope not though, I'd prefer they just keep pillaging. |

| now it's getting much better.. it still doesn't make the click for me, i can't say i'm captivated or anything close, but i can't say that it's not interesting either. this second chapter with the battle between the two men was much much better. and i especially loved the part where Askeladd watching that old man hitting with the whip that girl slave said: "a slave to money is acting the master to a slave he bought for money. every man alive is a slave to something". that part was amazing, i admit it helped making me like this more. i just love witty stuff being thrown in the story. 4/5 the art is still very nice (love how the expression of both hate and pain is portrayed on the face of Thorfinn) |

| Wow, i like how Yukimora really portrays every facet of the world in inhabited by these characters. The different cultures, the races and the political and economical elements. So the story is based on thorfin trying to get vengeance from the death of his father by Askaladd who supposedly murdered him. Now they are having a brawl in the middle of the village and thorfin ends up loosing. Now in regards to this, it seems to me like this Askaladd isn't posing to much of a sinister thread as i would of though from an antagonist. That is probably my main issue with this chapter right now but i won't jump to conclusions. Thorfinns vengeance against this guy is not as strong i would think, i mean for some guy trying to kill his father, why the hell would he want to stay with him? Something doesn't add up there but im sure will find out later. Anyways this is heading off to a great start and now were going 10 years back and heading into Thorfinn's past when he was a child. Looking forward to seeing his past revealed. Maybe will find out the truth bout his fathers murderer. |

| great chapter. the fact that it's only the second chapter and you already feel very emotional over the characters is really impressive |
| Askeladd is a very interesting character. He pillages and can be ruthless, but he also seems to be a deep thinker and seems to genuinely care about his people. That line where he likens his rich uncle as a slave to gold and that everyone is a slave to something was surprisingly profound. Seems like Thorfinn has challenged him before and has lost every time. Must be difficult having to bear being around your father's killer who also took his ship, constant reminders of a painful memory. I liked the exchange between Thorfinn and the slave (Horalan?) as well. He treats her like crap but she feels like he is the only who kind of gets who she is going through, having lived a nice life until being thrown down in the world. Can't say I am hooked yet but it is too early, though I like the pacing of the story and am interested in continuing to read Vinland Saga. On a side note, I really like Yukimura's art. Very charming. Not too gritty but not too cartoony, and lovely detail. |
