It's bad when you're trying to get someone into the world of Japanese media and the fandom is busy praising incest, NTR, dickgirls, rape, pedophilia, traps, etc etc.

It scares people away, and it explains why many people IRL are closeted about their anime/manga hobby. They don't want to be associated with sexual deviancy, social ineptitude, being weird, etc.

First of all, who is praising pedophilia? Seriously, no one on here is doing that.....if you think 2d characters = real kids, then I think you should really reconsider because that's not all true.

In Japan it's the largest comic convention and it occurs two times a year and is attended by hundreds of thousands of people.

Do you know what is the most popular comics at comiket?

Hentai doujinshi.....most of which parody many of the most popular anime series.

And on top of that, the convention is usually overrun by many models dressed in very sexualized cosplay of anime heroines.

Anime is VERY sexualized....

Even "normal" anime have some fanservice in them that to non-anime viewers will seem strange or weird.

Think about gamers.....they are precieved as stereotypes as well.

"Basement dwellers" and "no-lifers" is what some people see them as.

People who escape to a world where they do nothing but kill fictional characters.

These are stereotypes of gamers.....and yet is the gaming industry hurt by such stereotypes? No, not really.

And for the most part I think the anime industry is fine as well.

We talk about these things such as hentai and incest and NTR and whatever around here, but it doesn't mean that's ALL we do.

Hell, anime is not even on my top 3 hobbies.

Sports is vastly superior to anime....VASTLY.

Go to Current Events and into any American sports thread and you'll see how big of a sport fan I really am.....if anything THAT drives my hobby life more than anything.

Anime and hentai and all this other stuff is something to kill time.....at least for me anyways.

Things the fandom could do is maybe pipe down at least a bit on promoting the things I've talked about because they're giving us a bad name.
