| I think a lot of people have very little experience with anime outside of the late 90's anime boom, so they think anime is just Pokemon and Dragonball Z. It's hard to get them to realize the range of emotions anime can make you feel. |

| I believe the reason for people looking down on anime is the fact that during the 90's a large amount of the anime which were brought over to the west (mostly America) were super violent gory kill-fests with little to no plot , or porn. A lot of people back then would go to a store buy a random anime of the shelf thinking it would be fun only to watch brutal deaths and coitus , most people were turned off by that and to this day they still think anime lovers are psychopatic perverts. Honestly I think the western anime industry shot itself in the foot during that time. |

One of them being 'acting like a grown-up' (aka not watching 'kiddy stuff') others could be things like having watched only shit shows, came across hentai while searching for anime and thinking it's gross, or maybe even just too embarrassed to say they actually like it. | People who look down on anime are themselves insecure, as are they who hide their hobbies out of fear. To be fair, to an outsider anime often looks pretty bizarre and embarrassing. Most only see either the kiddie stuff like Pokemon or the 2D porn stuff, or then they see the tweens dressing up in ridiculous costumes. I know I know, there's nothing wrong with cosplaying and it's fun as hell. But you have to admit that many people don't exactly look very good in their costumes, and that it might make an oblivious outsider question the sanity of the cosplayer. That's something that all people with unique style or appearance have to deal with, so I don't think there's anything surprising about the biases of other people. |

| I didn't know people hated Anime. Some people just think its boring or don't get it. Just like Star Trek and Star Wars, some people dig it, others don't. but Anime is a big industry, as well as the comic and sci fi industry. Look at what one show does for its genre, i.e. Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Star Wars movies etc. Shows like Ranma, Eva, Naruto, Pokemon, Beyblade, Attack on Titan have had a huge impact on Anime in the U.S. and/or other countries outside of Japan. |
