At least Angel Beats and Code Geass are FUN bad shows, as opposed to bad shows that just make you ask yourself why you're still watching them in the first place.
Ooo, what a lovely tea party.

Well if the person doesn't mind sad endings, then Angel Beats would work.

Lol, Code Geass being a bad show... of course you're entitled to your own opinion, but I'm sure you realize you are in the minority.

OT - Death Note, Shingeki no Kyojin, Samurai Champloo, SAO, and I think Psycho-Pass could fit.

I realize that 3 of my top 5 are terrible anime. I would still recommend them all, because they were all very enjoyable.

I gave all of them 10's. I guess terrible wasn't the right word. "Not flawless' would be much more suitable.

I'd say something with a decent pace, and isn't the best anime, otherwise their exceptions of anime will be really high, of course everyone's opinions on what's the best is different. Mine are:

Death Note
Fullmetal Alchemist (Original)
Full Metal Panic
High School of the Dead (Since most males like tits, ass and zombies)
Samurai Champloo

Redline or Satoshi Kon films I've found are the most effective.

Welcome to the NHK, if they are skeptical from that big three image, it shows that not everything is about action, screaming, or whatever and what not

Monster - Great dub, not too Japanese so it can ease in a western watcher

Death Note - Similar reasons to Monster, may work better for someone 13-15

Berserk (Film or series, either will work) - Can get em used to old art styles/color palletes, not too Japanese as well, and the dub isn't too bad

My friends tend to like the more "non-conventional" animes that relate more to their personal interests.

A lot of my non-anime friends who love cars really dig Initial D and Wangan Midnight and my friends who love basketball totally got into Slam Dunk.

Trigun and Rurouni Kenshin are probably the best.

For a few people I might instead go with Full Metal Panic Fumoffu.

It'd all depend on the person, wouldn't it? Not everyone likes action in the same way not everyone likes romantic dramas.
Still, for a general audience, I might get them to see Full Metal Panic! Even though I read the manga instead of the anime, I've seen scenes and the animation is great. Plus, it covers enough ground to show what anime is like. It has action, mechas, comedy, and even a romantic subplot (though that never really got anywhere, unlike the manga and the light novels).
Either that or Cowboy Bebop. But then again, you might want to save the best for later, eh?

Fixed it for you <3

Anyway, I'd throw in Code Geass, Fate/Zero, and Ano Natsu De Matteru.
It's natural for a person to deny he's a failure as a human being. That's why he searches for somebody who is more miserable than himself. That's why so much animosity exists on the internet. Those who aren't able to find a more miserable person, turn to the internet and call other people losers, even though they've never met. Just to make themselves feel superior. isn't that pathetic? There's a sense of security that comes from speaking badly of someone else. But that isn't true salvation. — Tatsuhiro Satou

I'd disagree with Fate/Zero, the first episode is all talking pretty much, unless you can convince them to watch the first 3 episodes you wouldn't get to far

I'd be very surprised if someone couldn't make it past the first episode of any show. I understand Fate/Zero has a somewhat-slow pilot, but it does build some suspense with it. In the case of people I know, they wouldn't drop a show after one episode in any case.
