THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER.
----------------------------------------
The November 2012 issue of Bessatsu Shounen Magazine has chapter 34 of “Sankarea” on pages 524 – 556. The Chapter title is “Watashitachi dokokade”. The English subtitle is “Steve Niles' Remains”.

The chapter starts out with Chihiro standing in the bamboo cage and staring at the zombies as they stagger closer. Chihiro tries to remember what happened. He can remember taking a shower and going to bed, but he can't remember anything afterwards before he awoke in the cage in the jungle.

The zombies start to reach the cage and attempt to grab Chihiro. As he tries to avoid them he notices that the zombies are acting differently from usual. They are biting each other as they reach towards him.

At the same time Darlene's dad is watching through a large window as Darlene does more tests on Rea. Darlene's dad is thinking how at the end of the zombie “lives” the zombies change behaviour one last time and become “terminal eaters”.

Meanwhile Rea is very agitated and is demanding that they go out and find and save Chihiro. Darlene calmly asks her to cooperate while she does more measurements on Rea's brain waves. She tells Rea not to worry because her owl is out watching over Chihiro and will guard him.

Rea isn't satisfied and demands that Darlene stop the testing and that they get Chihiro. As she gets more agitated her brain waves get stronger. Suddenly Rea throws a chair through the observation window. Rea grabs Darlene and demands that Darlene talk to her when Rea suddenly stops, goes quiet, and falls to the floor. A hummingbird flies off, after having pricked Rea's neck with its beak.

Darlene is stunned by what happened. Her father then asks her somewhat rhetorically why did she bring Rea back to the island, implying that Darlene should have know what would happen. Darlene starts to reply that she made promises to everyone, but particularly to Chihiro, to bring Rea back home. Darlene's father laughs and tell Darlene that she doesn't have to worry about that any more because the “guest appearance” is over.

Meanwhile, at the cage the zombies break through while the owl flies overhead, watching but doing nothing.

We next see Rea on a surgical table. Darlene's father starts to cut Rea's head, first with a scalpel, and then with a small surgical rotary saw. Rea wonders in a daze if she is sleeping. She wonders what the feeling is that she feels. But she thinks – zombies don't sleep.

Rea wakes up dazed and very subdued in her room. She sees Babu next to her. Darlene comes in with some hydrangias. Darlene asks Rea how she feels. Rea smiles and replies that she slept well. Darlene comments on the negligee that Rea is now wearing and that they bought together. Rea looks confused, and then smiles and asks Darlene, “where did we meet before?” Darlene looks dismayed.

Meanwhile, back in the jungle the cage is now shattered. The large leaves that were on the floor of the cage are covered with lots of blood. A zombie pokes around in the mess. It pulls out a leg that has been torn off just above the knee and starts to eat it. The leg still has on it the sweatpants that Chihiro was wearing...

The next chapter will be in the December issue of Bessatsu Shounen Magazine. Volume 7 of the tankoubans will be released on November 9, 2012, along with an OAV.

Cliffhanger... BAH

This manga is getting darker and darker. Will Rea and Furuya really have a happy ending? Seems more and more unlikely.

Rather than dark I'd call it good story-writing. By throwing Rea and Chihiro into that world of chaos, serious tension is built up while simultaneously various questions are raised. A possible way of reviving Rea? Darlene's father being a serious threat to our young protagonists? Chihiro eaten alive by zombies (as if)? All that stuff makes it just the more enjoyable once they manage to get out of it.
Personally I'm loving it and only reading the story is already great fun. Although the pleasure would be even greater if the chapter were scanlated... anyway, thanks yet again.

I'm glad that you find these summaries useful. I've been told in other discussions in MAL that they are a "bother".

The next chapter should be published on the 8th. I have already pre-ordered the issue. So with any luck I ought to be able go post the next summary by mid-month.

Thanks! Yeah simple scans is dropping their project after chapter 33 and 34 because Sankarea has been officially licensed and will see a US release in June of 2013. Until that time I will rely on you dbaranyi to get my Sankarea fix for summaries.

Someone has been posting raws for Sankarea at Sen Manga:

http://raw.senmanga.com/Sankarea/

I suspect that the poster is in Japan because the scans often get posted around the same time that I receive my issue of the magazine via courier.

So between the two you ought to be able to keep up with what is going on.

I can also give some translations if you have questions on a given page, but I don't have time to do real translations/editing for entire chapters.

Ooh, the raw version of the chapter! Thanks, buddy. Makes it even more understandable now.

People calling your translations a bother? Seriously? Gosh, something's just wrong with certain persons...

I started to read the Chinese translated versions, this is really really interesting as I thought. The tension built up is indeed contributing to my eagerness to find out what's happening.

Now just a new group has to pick this up. Can't be that every one of them is scared because of its English serialization. Heck, I'd do it myself if I could.

Holy shit. Those are some major developments there. ZOMA's chief also cannot be trusted, after all.

Rea lost her memory after getting operated on? Chihiro's body nowhere to be found? (that leg may not necessarily be his)

Holy shit. Tampering with Rea's brain and putting Chihiro in that kind of experiment?

That good ending seems like a pipe dream now.

WOW, the story took a big turn and you heard Rea saying she is the one who is going to "eat" Furuya but now that she lost parts of her memory, who knows what's going to happen. Furuya is the main guy, of course he is still alive but I do wonder how he escaped, the owl didn't help him.

Wow, not only do they almost kill Chihiro (He's totally still alive...). They erase all of Rea's memories. This chapter is just...wow.

It was being too goody goody good till now.For a secretive lab researching on forbidden subjects this was right up to their alley.
Furuya should have listened the cautionary tale of grandpa
