I obey your decision on the below top 10 ratings, but this info is essential for the ranking.

These programs are not aired.
NARUTO Shippuuden
Detective Conan
Yatter Man
Pocket Monster DP

Pockemon and NARUTO had one-hour special programs on Sep 25.
Yatter Man will resume airing from Nov 11.
Conan will resume airing from Oct 20. (The movie "Seikimatsu no Majutsush (1999)i" was aired on Sep 29)

The fact that these shows started airing when a massive percentage of spectators were children.
People that are around 40s or 50s used to like these shows as children + their children or grand children like them now.
It's kind of sentimental for them.

I liked the top 11+ list cause I can't find it elsewhere...

That top four is unreal o.o But I'm glad that old shows are doing well yet ^-^ And also, new shows that are continuations/remakes of old shows - that is, Gegege no Kitarou, which I adore. Except for Pretty Cure, whose popularity I can't fully comprehend (even having seen the show), thats a solid list.

Why are people so surprised? The top few are always the same, and have been forever really. Slight variations depending on if an ep takes a break that week or the likes are the only things that change it. They're staple shows that reach far outside the usual anime audiences. Yet every time one of these threads are posted, there are replies of WTF and the likes. It's mind boggling.

Also, because if you don't like them, your Japanese-ness is called into question XD

I haven't seen Sazae-san, except for the first episode that is on crunchyroll. Has the animation improved much? Has it been modernised?

Love Antique Bakery XD So good to see it in the top 10 :P

It's aired in the noitamina block.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noitamina
It's a special airing block targeting female viewers 20-34 years old. The anime aired in this block always have a good rating.

I watched some Sazae-San on Youtube, and I have to say, it would be a GREAT series to view when either drunk or stoned.

It's way more fun to watch without subtitles too; I pretend the main characters are saying all kinds of crazy, derogatory, and outlandish things to one another.

It's definitely an enjoyable show.

And still it begs the question why half of Japan would watch Precure 5. But I probably should've asked question half a year ago as it's been in the top ten since february.

Not half of Japan watch it. The rating is about 5%.

8, 4.7% 5.5% Yes! Precure5 GoGo! M

The half a year average rating of Precure 5 is 5.6%. The main viewers are 4-6 year old girls, according to Toei Animation.

I'd say that Sazae-san and Chibi Maruko-chan are up there because the audience is set to be generally all age group, unlike many other anime series.
