I remember seeing a few peoples Dropped List that they drop a series like 5 (short anime) or 20 (longer anime) episodes right before it's been said to finish. Why? You're just soooo close! Or are they that bad? Being close to done and just forgetting it seems like a waste to me.

I never drop anime. I usually judge anime from their first episode and if I don't like it then I put it on hold. To me dropping an anime in the middle would make me feel like I wasted my time even watching the series.

I take icon requests.

Probably just stalled and lost motivation. I've had the last few eps of Kekkaishi and Kaiji on my computer since they were released but I never watched them at the time and haven't really had the urge to watch them to finish it.

Or it could be something where they get close to the end and then they hear the ending's not that good or get spoiled by what it was. I got nearly all the way through True Tears which was pretty decent for a highschool drama romance love triangle anime after the first episode. But after hearing about the direction the ending took I just didn't feel like watching it.

It depends on the person or the anime. For a show like Monster or LotGH I would try to encourage people not to enter that rut because even though those series are great it's easy to fall into that if you take a break.

Edit: Your best bet if you see something like that would be to ask them why they dropped it so late. It'll probably be something along the lines I've described but you never know, could get a pretty unique reason out of 'em.

on my dropped anime list only Sumomomo Momomo might fit in this case, I watched it up to ep 14 then dropped it.

I admit its a funny, very funny series .. but for me it had way to much fan service that i got disgusted by it :x and couldn't watch the rest.

the other ones i just watched first ep and didn't like it, either too much blood (Devil May Cry) or I'm sick of harem anime and didn't like the cast to make me think of watching this (Myself; yourself) or I just hate sports (prince of tennis) lol

For shorter series, it could also be that people thought an anime was terrible but was holding out just because it's only 13 episodes. Take Saikano, for example. I wanted to drop it around episode 3 but I decided to keep going and see how it was. It was short anyway. But then episode 9 just become too intolerable that I just dropped it, regardless of the fact that I was that close to finishing it.

I don't drop any anime show that is almost done. I do stop watching them because it's sad to see it ending. (History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi)

This only happened to me one time. I had to do it though. I wanted to die after the first episode. It was a 4 episode OVA but I couldn't take it so I dropped it >.<

I can't say if I have done something like this before, but I don't think that there is anything wrong with dropping a show if you don't enjoy it. Sure, it would be nice to finish it, but the time could be better spent on other (more worthy?) shows in the To-Watch List.

I figure If ya wasted that much time watching it why not just finish it. That way it wont be all for nothing.

Sometimes, you just get tired of seeing the same old thing, and seeing the main character do something that you think is stupid. I liked Kirarin Revolution when it started, but as it kept going...it just stopped being funny....and I lost interest when she couldn't figure out things right away. There's a limit to how dense you can be...

Only series I've ever done this with is Prince of Tennis. I dropped it at 170/178 because I put it on hold for a long time then got too lazy and into other things to finish it.

But really, I doubt I missed anything. It just got more ridiculous as it went on and as someone who really plays tennis their explanations of the super moves were just hilarious.

This is another good reason. The exact thing happened to me here, except replace Saikano with Kanokon.

I haven't watched many animes yet, but I don't want to drop anything after I watched School Days. You'll never know what the ending holds =P

Yes, I drop, quite a lot as well. Some animes have such a disgusting plotline that I don't want to see the stupid twists and whatever that comes after I drop it. Shows like Night Head Genesis, kashimashi, etc. Usually drop them around the 5th episode or so, where most main characters are introduced. Recently dropped Koihime as the show have nothing but female characters, shows like that are just too corny and unrealistic for me.

And of course dropped Naruto around episode 130. Nothing but fillers.

Yes... I look at top animes on MAL and even thou I don't like the first few episodes I keep watching because if its on top 30 or 50 there's got to be some part that's good and if up to 20th episode I feel bored I just quit and drop that anime before its finished....

I don't ever drop anime, but I put them on hold.

This happened to me for Basilisk, Neon Genesis, Vampire Knight and Slam Dunk. They were all good anime, but I didn't have time to finish them (and they weren't good to the point that I really needed to finish them either). As life went on, I just kind of forgot about them.

I don't like dropping shows. If I start something, I have to stay with it till the end, no matter what. That's why I chose my animes carefully :P
''... you know what? As a writer, I bring life into those who will experience happiness, sadness, torment and love in stories I write. They will have the opportunity to discover what being important means... and all because I will never be able to do the same as they could. If I could, I would put myself in their place right now. But no, my magic isn't like that...''

That's my main reason as well. Take .hack//Legend of the Twilight, for example. I disliked it from the first episode, but it slowly got more and more unwatchable. I dropped it, tried to finish it yesterday, and dropped it again with only two episodes left because I just couldn't take it anymore.

LOL no way id drop a show like 2-3 episodes before it would end ... i usualy gather all my courage and face the last episodes with a great determination to not to drop the series after i endured all the other stupid episodes :))) ....

ps. My weirdest drop ever ... would be One Piece ... at @ episode 356 ... i just chould not bare the boresome given by the 15-17 min episodes with to many flashbacks ( poke poke Usopp in his " fight " with Perona " and the long waits for fansubs to translate the episodes ( @ 360 were aired by that time at least )

That's so true ... and even if the show was a bit interesting you cant get yourself yo chose to watch the rest of it over a newly found series that captivates you ...

I've never dropped a show before I finish it because maybe, just maybe, the ending makes the series worthwhile. Unfortuantely, I have yet to run into an anime that this applies to. Although Code Geass sure loves to tempt me to drop it...

I have only dropped two shows and i dropped them when i had 10 or 12 eps left.

I mainly drop stuff when it feels like a chore to finish it. Anime is supposed to entertain me, not bore me.

I've pretty much only dropped airing series, with the furthest I got was 15 episodes into Romeo x Juliet. It's just after a while I had to force myself to go watch the newest episode, so then I just didn't do it anymore. At least for completed series you can go through the last episodes really fast just to finish them, but for airing episodes you'll have to wait weeks to see the ending.

I've dropped right before the end. Ef, because it was making my head hurt with stupidity, and I almost dropped the second season of Shana before the last episode, because it was terrible. I ended up watching the last episode, which did nothing but assure be I wouldn't have missed anything by not finishing the series.

I cannot get into TTGL or Eureka Seven. I'm trying to push through them, but I will probably end up dropping them.

Only losers watch shows that they hate for the sake of having the right to give it a low score. Isn't anime supposed to entertain you? You don't have an obligation to watch all of it if you're not enjoying it. Besides, what if it's a long running show?

Most episodes I have seen in a series I dropped is Sonic X(26) and I didn't like how they treated the game stories, and that was the rest of the series so I dropped it. Next highest is Noein which I meant to put on-hold at 15 and 10 to Moby Dick which I was watching for free but just couldn't stand.

I don't understand this need to finish every anime you start. Why would you force yourself to go through 26 episodes of something you hate? I'll drop anything if I'm finding myself bored and have no qualms about it, because it's my time I'm taking up.

Exactly, anime is a form of entertainment, I didn't know you had to finish something you hated just to rate it a low score or you were forced to finish something that you dislike. If it was a chore, something you have to study for, then you have to go through it, but not entertainment. Another thing, the rating system is not rigid, there is no rules on what number you put for the anime you like, or dislike, dropped or completed. There can be people critiquing on your ratings, but they can't really change it.
