So does bad voice acting ruin a Anime for you?? If so which Anime??

I moved to Japanese dubs on even video games I play just cause most newer English dubs makes characters sound way to dramatic and high pitch or the voice doesn't fit the character at all.Maybe its cause its my native language??idk

Always prefer the original Japanese voices than the dub ones. They don't seem to fit the character well and yes, it's a huge turn-off for me because I can't seem to feel the story.

Oh hell yes it does!

Watch episode one of Myself;Yourself and tell me you're not affected by her voice.

(I don't think I even need to state her name, you'll know when you watch it)

Japanese dubs in my opinion will always be better than English dubs. Their are a few occasions where English dubs are pretty good, but never the case where it is better. For an example, I really liked the English dubs for Dragonball Z, Gundam Seed, and Haruhi but I am sure the Japanese dubs are better. Oh and if you are talking about voice acting overall, it really depends. If the character is outrageously annoying then of course it may ruin it, but that is barely ever the case for me.

I wouldn't exactly use 'ruin', though it is rather annoying. If and when it happens (in Fantastic Children, for example), I simply switch over to the Japanese audio and watch the rest of the anime subbed.

The only anime I watch dubbed are if I rematch Dragonball/Z/Kai, or Pokemon, because I grew up with those english voices any other voice just sounds wrong, anything other than those I only watch subbed.

If it's really that bad, then regardless of if it's Japanese or English, it's probably going to take away from it (let's keep in mind that this isn't a sub vs. dub thread). For example, I'm watching Speed Grapher subbed, and the main girl's voice kind of irritates me, I'm actually thinking about watching the dub for an episode or two to compare. No voice acting has been terrible enough for me though that it totally ruined my experience, usually I just don't like the person's voice.

I'm not fluent in Japanese, so I'd probably be oblivious to bad acting regardless. That's some good ignorance and one of the reasons I'll watch the original Japanese.

I know exactly who you are talking about. The glasses girl right? I wanted to reach through the screen and punch her in the face....I've never felt like that because of a character before.

Of course, voice acting is important to help us enjoy and feel the story....

But, I find Japanese VA are amazing... the only one I dislike is Maka Albarn's voice. Maybe because the VA is a new comer so she is still learning (the VA, I forgot her name) ... but she improved when she voicing Minko Tsurugi, I actually surprised that Minko's VA is the same as Maka's that I used to hate, but Minko's voice is great which is a prove that she is actually improving... ^_^

Exactly! That is by far the worst voice acting I've ever come across. I've long forgotten what the show is about, but I still remember how her voice pissed me off to no end.

Not really bad voice acting, but Kuroko's voice kept me away from watching railgun for quite a long time, until I finally gave in and ignored her as much as I could.

I seriously cannot stand Aya Hirano's voice. Thats the main reason why I will never pick up Haruhi, although I really like Sugita Tomokazu's voice.

But that being said, I did watch Fairy Tail all the way until the current arc while tolerating her voice because
1. the story is awesome enough
2. she doesnt get much screen time anyway.

From the english dubs I've heard, I'm convinced they're not even trying. Maybe I haven't heard the good ones, if there are any. I always prefer the japanese audio with subtitles, but of course there are some times that I get bothered. However it has never been enough to stop watching.

I think voice of the actors is important in anime, and if voice is terrible, probably I can cancel watching any anime. And i prefer Japanese dub. :D

that's why dubs are the in my coffin haha i can't even stand when they dub anything into my own native language (dutch) let allone watch english dubbed (and americanisation in a whole)

i watched DBZ but when i seen the original it was so much better, FMA kind of did a good job (weird isn't it) and gunslinger girl wich i couldn't find in sub at that given time, ugh i dropped it and searched for the subs because it was just plain AWFULL :(

imo the people creating something find a voice (or actor in case of a live action movie/serie) fitting the character. dubbing allmost never seems to get it right

Narm charm, narm charm. Though if a character's voice is just bad and not in a "Its so bad its sort of charming" kind of way, I tend to avoid the anime on principle because of that one voice.

It can take away from the experinece on certain shows.
I tend to like most dubs because I feel like the voice actors are good and trained in acting...
But when dubs are really bab because of voice acting (Gravitation and Karin) it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Most Eng Dub I've seen in Anime (on Netflix usually) and on games (JRPG with dual audio) is usually just fine. I will agree that many don't fit the character compared to the original voice but it's usually never bad enough to make me not play the game.

Now Eng Dub Hentai... it's freaking hilarious.

I think the only bad acting I saw was a dub of A.LI.CE.I wouldn't say it ruined the anime movie for me but if the acting was better I would have given it a higher score.

As for subs, since I am not fluent in Japanese. So I can't honestly say whether or not the acting in any of the subs I seen were bad because anyone who is not fluent in both languages can not honestly say if the acting in the subs were better than the dubs.

why do i have a feeling this is going to turn into a sub vs dub fight on here?

anyways, i've seen bad acting in both japanese and english, but i can't say it has ruined an anime for me because i think the voice acting shouldn't be the main problem for a show, but that''s just me.

Usually I like to watch subs before dubs just to compare them, but only rarely do dubs usually turn our a lot better than subs. But voice acting is one of those things that really make or break an anime.

I always watch both versions before I make a fair judgement. Anime I'm crazy about don't really matter what language it's in - I'll still watch it. Bleach and Inuyasha are good examples of that.

Kuroshitsuji I tried watching in English and couldn't get passed the 2nd episode. It just doesn't sound right when they have accents.

The Prince of Tennis dub is horrible. They're supposed to be middle school students and yet they have deep voices like buff men.

Was getting off track there.. but if there's a horrible dub it won't ruin anime for me, I'll just go to the original :)

The biggest experience i had with this was watching the entire series of Yu Yu Hakusho in English (which I considered really good voice acting) then finding the 2 movies that were dubbed way back when before Funimation owned the series and I watched both of them but the old English voice actors completely ruined the entertainment value not memorable at all the movies didn't have the JP voices either so I was stuck..

Bad dubs really detract from an anime. It makes the scene just seem less serious. Even in live action stuff it does the same. Remember troll 2's classic "OOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDD".

Sometimes bad dubbing can be what makes the anime even more interesting.
It's the same for movies...you might never think about watching a bad horrorfilm, but with the right amount of bad dub it suddenly turns into a comedy.

But when it comes to dubbing, I can't bear to watch if they don't have good voice actors.
So yes, it does ruin an anime for me.

japanese dubs much better because they are "legit" they come with the animation :L:L if thats a good way to put it

Yes. If I watch anime I want it subbed, or any other language I understand besides most English dubs. An anime I liked that was dubbed. is cowboy bebop.

Anime that was ruined for me was Trigun...that was ugly, I watched a few episodes and then I quit. Because they sounded horrible.

In very rare times I do like dubbed anime. But over all gimmi subs. or in another language.

Yeeaahhh... I used to watch only dubs, but the way they talk (the pitch, tone, over-dramatic dialogue) just annoyed me to no end. However, there are some good ones, usually with comedies. But other things that are tragic, horror, anything that's supposed to draw extreme emotions are always ruined by the bad voice acting.

For example, first episode alone, I watch Higurashi no Naku Koro ni dubbed. It was ok. The usual annoyances, but I dealt. Then I watched it subbed.

So! Different!! o.o

So yeah, bad voice acting is such a pain in the ass. -.-

Agreed, agreed, agreed. Though I don't want to kill some fictional character, that's just silly.

If I recall (too irrelevant to check) she also played Chiyo, which was the right amount of cutesy. Myself yourself was just wtfSTOP.

Other than the show's pacing/plot was pretty unbearable, her voice just made it voice. I think I still end up giving it a 6 or 7 though.
