As some of you may know, meat production is by 80% the cause of global warming(you thought it was because of cars, right?). Its nourishing substances(protein, iron) can be replaced by plants. Plus, meat costs more than vegetables, so why do people still prefer meat? i am trying to create the perfect alternative to meat, tell me about what you like about the meat, is it its texture, its taste, its seasoning?

i am not vegetarian

Meat may cause global warming, but beyond that it's an integral and healthy food source for humans. It's high in protein and iron which humans need, and (not that you are one) but for those faggy vegetarians who say that humans aren't meant to eat meat.... Yes we are, that's what our incisors are for, we evolved to eat meat.

Anyway that was probably a bit off your actual question, sorry. I like vegetables, but I'll take meat over them any day, because: It tastes great, the texture of a good steak can't be beaten, and few meals leave you feeling as satisfied afterwards as a steak

Eh, I'm pretty much vegetarian. I eat meat when my housemates cook it or I go out for a meal and there are no appealing vegetarian options on the menu.

The problem with global warming lies more in the sheer number of our human population more so than changing individual lifestyles.

But this had given me attention on the relationship between global warming and meat, which I really had absolutely no idea about. I knew deforestation is a bitch due to more pastures, but I didn't even think about the content of their manures, and among other things.

Now I have more reason to tell my dad to stop eating meat at night. Eating meat in excess goes beyond the necessary biochemicals enough for the production of 20 amino acids.

It doesn't help especially when meat is wasted, either. This can happens in all sorts of places from fast food restaurants to buffets to just buying food in excess to begin with. It's pretty common, too. Raising awareness of the relationship helps.

However, the form of this thread seem like a bad way of raising awareness. It would've been better (in my opinion) if the topic was more about the relationship, than asking such a question most people haven't thought about.

I'm sorry, were you dropped on the head as a baby?!?!?! Or, do you just suffer from some sort of debilitating mental disorder? Banana's do not "out-protein every other food in the world." , not even close. How stupid are you? Banana's have very little protein in them, as I stated before in those statistics! Bananas contain a good deal of potassium, not protein. So either you got those two completely differently functioning nutrients mixed up, or your just plain stupid!!!

You're either trolling, or stupid. Bananas have a ridiculous amount of protein. You obviously made those statistics up on the spot. In real life, 100g of banana has 32g of protein while 100g of beef has 25g of protein. As I said earlier, learn your facts, idiot.

Knowing something doesn't make someone stupid or not.

Just blindly stating things to left and right, however, might.

Regardless, stop insulting eachother, especially about something as fucking pathetic as goddamn protein in goddamn banans, goddamn, what the fuck.

I have no idea about bananas, short googling returned this. That's not a lot of protein.

Oh of course, I'm lying, the websites are lying, all the scientists who have ascertained that there is little protein in bananas are lying..... It's all an elaborate conspiracy against you, the chosen one who knows all when it comes to the nutritional quality of bananas...

bro, either you are trolling, or you have a good source to give us.

I have no idea, I only found dietary sites and Answers, nothing really scientific, but it all said bananas were poor sources of protein. That trumps you blindly stating they do.

Also this thread is about meat not bananas

Tuna's like a buck a can, and enough slices for 15 turkey sandwiches run around $7. The only sandwich without meat I like is either a cheese sandwich, or a fruit salad made of avocado and tomato. Sandwiches are a vital part of my diet.

In addition, while a salad with some goat cheese might be a bit filling at the moment, if I don't also have some grilled steak or chicken with it, I'll be hungry within an hour.

Also, my diet is mainly protein (buffing out FTW), so I'd probably pay more if it weren't for meat.

I don't really like meat, and there is some I just can't eat, like sheep, the smell and taste make me want to throw up, but I do eat beef and some fish occasionally. As to why I do, that's because as far as I know, I'm an omnivore, so I don't believe a diet of only fruit and vegetables would be healthier.
Also, meat is the main cause of global warming ? I heard it's making it worse, but being the main cause, I've never heard of this. What is your source ?

Funny how many people spout out things as fact without giving one single source as proof. All I've read mostly says the only thing scientists agree with is that there's a global warmimg effect and that it's likely being sped up by humans. Yes, they haven't even really come into complete accord of whether we are completely to blame for it, especially since the warming and cooling periods are actually quite natural events of this planet.

Regardless of whether it's a contributing factor to global warming (something which in itself many people still refuse to believe is actually happening), it's undeniable that meat production is a strain on the natural environment. The Amazon rainforest, the "lungs of the planet", is being torn up at a terrific rate to create farmland on which to grow fodder for cattle. It's not the only forest on Earth that this is happening to. Deforestation leads to a rise in salinity levels, which ruins any surrounding fresh water sources as well as eventually rendering that land infertile. Meat animals are kept in horrible conditions and I doubt anyone who visited an abbatoir would be in a hurry to eat a steak afterwards. Of course, just like sweatshop labour, this is something that's easy to ignore in the face of convenience and pleasure.

No matter how you look at it;
We're the reason for global warming.
Too many humans.

Anyways; I eat meat because it tastes nice.
I could live without it, but I don't.
If I eat stuff from the animal, I might as well eat it too.
Feel bad it dies when I think of being in its place, but hell - we all die.

Doesn't sound like bullshit to me, when there's other sources with it. And this is the person who is the head of UN's Nobel Prize.

"worldwide livestock farming generates 18% of the planet's greenhouse gas emissions — by comparison, all the world's cars, trains, planes and boats account for a combined 13% of greenhouse gas emissions."

As for why, deforestation, manure, and cow flatulence, among other reasons. None of these are a bit surprising, actually. Deforestation is self-explanatory. Manure generates nitrous oxide, and the cattle produce methane gas as they digest grain OR grass (meaning even organic meat is the same in this aspect as a contributor).

80% from the OP however is bullshit.

They are just food produce you know. Maybe this is what make humans so amusing.

Also, by how you put it, the problem is not eating meat itself, but the amount that is necessary to keep the world population well-fed which just creates a massive need for cleared lands.

But unless you are proposing some way other than the extreme ban on meat, not much will really change about that. Humans evolved as omnivores. We need vegetables, fruit and meat to keep a balanced nutrition. Why else do you think vegetarians are always advised to keep watch of their nutriency deficiencies and take supplements as needed?
