Well, we have already seen part of the audition dance in the trailers, so no surprises there.

You know, Kabo-kun looks somewhat decent when he is dancing, it's the girls with their squid hair that make the CGI dance scenes terrible.

Iori has finally made an appearance.

The welcoming group performance that Kabo missed at the beginning of Ep1 was average too,
nowhere near as powerful as it seemed in the manga.

And that wrapped up the adaptation of Chapter 4 of the manga.
I guess they are keeping those boring visuals for the ending. I had hoped it was only temporary...

Seeing the stills of On-chan, maybe they should have went with those instead of the CG, if they cannot animate dances properly with handdrawn animation.

The most mysterious thing about this anime is the 3DCG and I think I finally crack the code. I think it's intentionally designed to look like an avatar from dancing game like Just Dance and Dance Dance Revolution. It was given less detail to give the feeling that it's actually YOU that do the dancing, not the character.

There are also many elements that seem to be inspired by dance/beat/rhythm game, if you notice carefully. It's such a fun experience, not to the point of "immersive" yet, but it's going there.

Also yes, more male dancer finally, I'm gonna need more.

On-chan, sugoi !!
Those killer moves and she's the expression queen
๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–
The 3D did seem off in the beginning but for the Kabo and Wanda's dancing while drowning scene it was really good. Kabo really got in the groove upon seeing Wanda.
He was awesome โค๏ธ‍๐Ÿ”ฅโค๏ธ‍๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’ฏ
What's he gonna do without Wanda-chan !? ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„โค๏ธ
Kabo's friend was like, "is this dude for real !?..is this is the same guy who I have been playing Basketball with until now!?" ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…
I'm glad they showed Miyao's dance from the 1st episode. It was sick.
Kabo has an adorable side to him. He's getting chicks with his love for seahorse.
Finally we got a glimpse of the second year guy from the dance club, Iori.
It's a shame that this show is rated low 'cause of the 3D. I too wish the 3D was a little better but still this show deserves more love.

I agree with your point.
They may look terrible in CGI, probably because of how they modeled the polygons (not really top-notch like in Genshin).
We’re also already used to the look of their faces in animation.
The dance looks more fluid and realistic compared to manually drawing it with a lower frame rate.

I don't know why this anime got lower scores than OPM.

No point in complaining about the 3DCGI, it is what it is at this point and won’t be changing. I’m loving this show for the dance choreography and Kabo/Wanda’s relationship.

The freestyle event today was really eye opening to me. Dancing is just about being in sync with the music and being fearless, you don’t need to do super complex moves to look good. Kinda reminded me of pro athletes just sticking with the fundamentals and honing them to the point they look like more advanced moves than they really are. As long as you take your time and are confident, even the most basic stuff looks good as Kabo showed today. Proud of him for overcoming his anxiety and you could see he was almost like another person when he really got into it today.

It’s really nice that Hotohara didn’t make things awkward for Kabo and supported him with the dance stuff. I was worried he might say something to damage Kabo’s confidence, but he’s a great friend!

Wanda might have the dance stuff figured out, but it looks like she’s got some issues at home with her dad’s health. I wonder how that’ll factor into the story eventually. For now, proud of my girl for finally learning how to turn her notifications on line off lmao. Really relate to her not wanting to be bogged down by her phone going off all the time lol. She and Kabo’s synergy is so good and I can’t wait to see it develop further.

i feel like the dance cg has the same issue as high paced shonen battle sakuga, so much movement is going on that u have to lower the quality of the frames( in this case the 3d models quality). in today's episode now that they are following the music more properly, the actual dancing looks rather detailed. it's like when u lower the graphics settings of a game to get maximum fps

The improvement in CGI quality is nice to see but I was especially amazed at them going all out with the water effects. The "underwater audition" was really cool as a visual metaphor, a Kabo and Wanda moment, and as easily the strongest showing of the 3D animation yet.

Kabo's basketball bro is a real one for letting our dude personally know he looked great in motion, and "It is not Wednesday, my dudes" is a contender for my favorite Kabo shirt so far lmao.

Kinda hard to believe On is so great when 4 background characters next to her move exactly the same lol.

Anyway, the rationalization and explaining of dancing in this episode was really good.

I'm enjoying the anime, but when it goes 3D, it's hard to watch without wanting to turn it off.
I find Wanda charismatic, and I watching Kabo Losing the shame of dancing I find it an interesting anime to watch. I hope there's romance between the two main characters.
Maybe I shouldn't have stopped dancing Breakdancing xD

we already know that is hard to make characters dance and for me even if it is CGI, the movement are not bad or ugly...

3 episode in, and people are still upset that this anime have a dubious CGI, but don't see how much effort the mo-cap have. Is a dance anime putting a lot of dancing and choreography in every episode. As if even the high budget music/idol anime have a presentation every episode

I liked the whole explanation about tho whole concept of dancing, very didactic.

@BlichoBoy It is a valid complain, just because they put extra effort on one aspect, doesn't mean they can abandon the other (visual), just like how people are rating this anime solely because of the ugly 3d dance but then again, this anime is about dance, it shouldve been visually better. im not against 3d, but i expected better 3d than this.i read the manga and honestly this couldve been aots with solid visual but no

Honestly, by the third episode this had already turned into a whining about 3D, it’s time to get used to it or wait for the release of the BD edition. As for this episode, if the first couples looked, not perfect, but then, and especially the group dance on a dark background, looked quite decent and Wanda is a cutie in every episode.

The underwater segment was really cool to see Kabo and Wanda dance together. The CGI still isn't good especially the background characters but still an enjoyable episode.

Also On is such a great teacher for a third year, dancing for 10 years is impressive.

3D CGI I don't mind but the only REAL ISSUE I have with is is the FACES MAN especially when they MOVE AROUND it's STIFF and it shouldn't be just a personal take.

Oh wow even when they were dancing in the water in 3D there was a lot of reflection.

Gotta say that Kabo is improving fast as he synced up with Wanda while dancing in front of On and the rest of the club members. I also want to add that I like that Kabo isn't afraid to speak his mind and had the courage to ask for Wanda's RAIN account info (btw what's wrong with simply texting? guessing that app adds more emojis or something) to make it easier to keep in touch. Anyways, I'm curious to see if the competition is next or if they will practice more.

All right, i just powered through the uncanny CGI and watched the last 3 episode in a row: MAN I'M HAVING FUN.

Seeing Koba growing at his own pace is delightful and also kinda poetic being rythm basically the most important thing for this anime. And good rythm is what carries the relationship between Wanda and Koba. Slowly but steadily their coming closer by the minute.

The prep for the dance contest with the audition is fine and all...and the problems with Cyclone Graphics's 3DCG will be here to stay, let's not bicker about it. On's dance just doesn't flow well in the transition between 2D and 3D, but for getting the nuance of the audition and its critical pointers, she's a master at it. And when it comes to the actual application for the potential dancers, there're those who did well, and there're those who just got by. But Kabo is hoping not to sink his move with Wanda, which other than the latter coming out striking iron hot with her natural moves, the former finding his groove with the music and beats, soon makes the two form in sync together, like natural.

Most certainly, Kabo coincidentally meeting with the girls from the dance club to discuss about the club president herself, and to say that On is her own one-girl team dancing on stage, she's just strikes on a whole other level. And that's certainly what Kabo is trying to imitate and take inspiration from, though a family problem with Wanda put her back a bit, and Kabo finally having Wanda's contact surely puts him at ease if she's up to any issue.

So far, so good (minus the 3DCG problems, obviously). Both Kabo and Wanda are looking good together.

The story is cool but: weird 3D, weird and stiff 3D animation and weird dance moves that don't look like they fit the music or are even in sync with it. I'm not a pro dancer but that purple haired girl's dance at the beginning looked just not related to the slow paced song. In that club presentation performance all dancers' moves looked just the same, purple haired girl didn't looked all that exceptional like the girls Kabo-kun met said. I'll keep going with the show because I like both Kabo-kun and Wanda-san but the dance, that was what attracted me at first, is just ruining the show for me.

okay this episode slowed down just enough to show kabo learning real basics and then taking a small leap. i liked on-chan’s lesson about not rushing the beat. the bit about moving a little after the sound clicked for me and for kabo too. seeing him relate rhythm to basketball again felt natural and honest.

the underwater audition looked cool. it turned his anxiety into a clear image and made the duet with wanda feel dreamy. they really move well together. wanda stays supportive and bright, and kabo relaxes when she is there. their little phone scene at the end was sweet.

the cgi is still mixed. faces can look stiff, but some cuts were cleaner this week, especially on-chan’s demo and the audition. the 2d moments still carry the emotion best. overall, the heart of the show is shining. dance as connection. kabo taking small steps forward. wanda cheering him on. i’m in.

I'm kinda getting used to the animation. The characters are still interesting enough to get me through the story, and honestly I'd rather have crappy looking cgi than ai, and this one actually looks rather decent anyway. It's the contrast with 2d parts that gives the most dissonance and eh reaction. But overall it's not outright bad or unwatchable.

There is no problem with 3D-CGI if anime studio is willing to invest 3x the usual amount of money and 3 months work per episode... (That's how expensive and long-winding Girls Band Cry ended up but their stage performances are insane movie quality. On the other hand, TOEI is a major player and have lotsa profit from One Piece and DBZ licensing to invest in pet projects.)

Wandance is made by an underdog studio, so their CGI feels like MMD rendered on a 90MHz Pentium ... which is a shame, because the story is charming! Silver girl's seiyuu even dances in real life, so she was an obvious choice for the role - but her voice is so much attached to Bokuyaba, it's hard to forget she's Wanda, not Anna Yamada...
