How big is your enthusiasm for anime, contemporary or past? Why did you develop this type of fan mentality?

Anime was the best thing ever when i started getting into it as a horny teenager, but now it has mostly become just another medium to tell stories like movies, books, etc.. Still one of my favorites though and the one i currently consume the most, still. Even if its just a few standout anime per year.

Probably the third or the fourth option, and sometimes the first one.

A simple fan. I used to be more extreme about it as a teenager but have mellowed out and have also since been more opened to more genres. I'll even watch a bad anime if I have to just to see what went wrong. I don't watch it as much as I used to either but I still keep up with the news and trends. Anime is something that always been apart of me since I was like 3-4 years old. It's just another form of entertainment and I think others are missing out if they skip out on it because of stereotypes.

I enjoy watching anime primarily because it brings me pleasure, but there are instances where I develop strong feelings of either love or dislike towards a particular anime. However, I don't take it too seriously and I simply enjoy discussing different aspects of it. I can also acknowledge the flaws in my favorite shows because being blindly devoted to something without considering its imperfections is not my style.

More or less the same here except that I'm watching more anime due to starting seasonal in 2013 as long it's enjoyable and/or keeps me interested.

Kinda low at the moment. I'm currently more invested in some old 50s and 60s westerns someone recommended to me.

I'm just a simple fan; my enthusiasm is still 80-90%. My enthusiasm was lower in my youth when I was very picky and started running out of shows to watch. Then the pandemic & WFH came and changed everything for the better.

An old fan who is a simple fan. Lately I've been into dumb shows for their pure brain rotting qualities.

I'd say I'm an average viewer. I like watching shows that look interesting to me, so it's for entertainment!

I choose the fourth option - an average viewer who watches anime for entertainment without too much thinking / analysing how good it is.

My choice is the secret sixth option: Not Giving a Fuck.

I don't watch anime in the slightest, the most recent one I watched by myself of my own volition was about 3 years ago. I simply come here to see the drama, stay up to date and enjoy seeing people argue over meaningless takes.

I do occasionally engage in Light Novels/Visual Novels tho.

Number 3 sounds close to me, I'm just a man making my way through pedestrian style. I also watch older anime, I'm not seasonal which allows me to pick and choose.
Sometimes it takes a real man to be best girl. Gilgamesh is also chad.

option 3, leaning somewhat into 2. I love anime but I certainly don't feel any compulsion to watch all the latest hyped seasonals and lately the new stuff has made me feel kinda disillusioned with the entire goddamn medium.

I think I am a combination of 1 and 2. A hyper-impressive fan who watches all interesting shows and a simple fan who evaluates shows individually.
You probably wanted to type impressionable in the first option and if that is the case, I'm not option 1.

Horny fanboy I guess when it comes to certain franchises. I can really go down a rabbit hole and sperg for hours over some cartoon. Tho I can be nasty hater and fanboy at the same time towards a franchise.

Fairly high I guess. I've enjoyed what I've been watching a lot lately to the point were I'm taking less frequent breaks the past few months. Not that I was forcing myself to watch anything I hated in the prior months, I just didn't feel like watching anything somewhat consistently.

It wasn't like this at first, it gradually turned in to this over the years.
Every new season brings a big amount of anime. After a few years of trying to watch most, if not everything that comes out, you realise something.
While you may want to give everything a chance, you can't force yourself to watch something, if it doesn't appeal to you.
So the solution is, you give most shows a chance (1/3 episodes of each show). If in that span of time the show proves itself, you complete it and move on.

Peaked real high in high school for me, i'd say 2007 or so, was a sophomore in high school. Man do I miss the anime/games/manga aspect of those days rofl. Haruhi Suzumiya, all the adult swim anime, flcl, were all popular back then

A hyper-impressive fan

YES!

I've been very obsessed with media in general since I can think and especially with my main fandoms. Very unapologetic so and I love that.

One of my first memories is learning to read, so I'm not dependent on an adult to read me a book or subtitles on tv and everyone was like "wow that kid is so smart!" I swear, I always have been and I am still a bit of a dumbass, I just have been more obsessed than others lol

So I'm still excited to watch anime and read manga always everyday, whenever it's possible.
Overall I prefer 2000s anime I think, but I'm open for some new and old stuff too and uhm, a simple person I guess. The feeling of wonder never disappears. Sometimes I need a small break and then I continue watching anime.

It's also very managable with job, study and private life to watch ca 15-30 episodes a week and I never understood why people judge that. Others watch dumb reality and brain numbing shows like Kardashians etc. for several hours a week.

Other people own a dozen of games with 1000+ hours played in them and then they ask me "how do you watch so many anime?" I do game sometimes btw, but rarely. So there is the answer.

I evaluate shows individually but I do think that it used to be better

Also I am rather elitist and my average score in 6.20 even if I avoid watching any shows that I likely to not like.

I watch whatever, whenever. I make plans to watch things. These plans are not necessarily followed in any timely fashion.

I do definitely prefer to understand each show as a unique work of storytelling that stands on its own, and dislike judgemental meta-analysis that's based on the era/scene a show happened to be released into.
