Imo, this was a funny episode because it showed how much Elda is afraid of heights and gave plenty of time between her and Koito to hang out together.
I wonder what else Elda is scared of...

Koito trying to study hard and ace her tests is an example of being a hard worker although this episode played it for laughs on a few moments.

Poor Elda felt lonely because Koito had to study so much. It was pretty amusing when Elda thought that Koito was betraying her with another shrine god.

"I had a hard time back then."
"I had a hard time back then."
"I had a hard time back then."

Elda has a rather rough past. x3

The second part was really atmospheric. I liked when Elda told how Mt. Fuji got its name. Also, it's kinda cute how she is so scared of heights.

I cannot say I find much depth in this story. But I'm still here each week to enjoy the antics of Elda and Koito. Like a good stew it's all the elements together. Genki schoolgirl and socially awkward elf. Modern life and Edo info. The two of them walking the empty streets of late-night Tokyo in their beautiful miko vestments.

There is surprising depth to the show that reveals itself in really subtle ways throughout. There’s an undercurrent of poignancy that runs through every gag and really elevates the show beyond what you’d originally expect from first glance. This is a real hidden gem.

Well then you must not be paying attention.

The second half of this episode was all about immortality, and how sad it can be. When Koito said she can't go any further, that was a metaphor for life, Elda knew that, she gonna outlive her, all of them, that's why she took her hand and said "stay with me for a little longer", because human life span is only a fraction of hers, one of the deepest episodes of this anime.

All this, is continuously repeating deja vu for Elda, becasue she experienced this, over and over, and over ... and she always lose the people she cares the most at the end, because she is immortal, and they are not. She sees Koito's mom in her so much, and that's why she said to stay with her a little longer.

Again, a very, deep message for a show that presents itself as a gag bubbly fun comedy.

Koito, being busy on her tests, and Elda thinking that she hasn't been dropping by because she had gotten sick and tired of her otaku antics. The truth, from finding an amulet bought from Anuther Shrine, is simpler than the mind can even comprehend. Elda can only comprehend on her era of studying, and in the midst of all of it, tries to distract Koito into hanging out with her. Even when her room
s messy, she takes time to clean up, and even gets distracted by Hime's text and social browsing, with time slipping away. Koito finding Elda useful when it comes to Japanese history, and as expected from the Hime-no-Mikoto herself, she finds it hard...relating to her past experiences of worthless stories. Trying to motivate her more, Elda spearheads sushi, and that seems to work. Oh well, what a good motivation.

The trip to Mt. Fuji for the 50-year-annual major Shinto ritual, and Akane chaffeurs both Koito and Elda to the Tokyo Skytree, and even the Observation gallery at a staggering 450m is 9 times as much as the Edo Castle, which Elda is scared of heights enough to try distracting herself with the otaku traits. Even things like how Mt. Fuji got its name from the Edo period and the famous Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, it's amusingly infotainment about youth and immortality. Where Koito stops is at the entrance of the holy sanctuary, but Elda dragging her with a smile on her face, aside from the fear of heights, both miko and Hime-no-Mikoto prayed for abundance....along with the otaku discrepancies...because she's that lols.

Nice! Hope that both Koito and Elda can grow together more!

This week's episode yet again delivers with that homely and wholesome elven goodness that I so love, but also managed to really hit me in the feels with the thought that Elda is an immortal elf while Koito is a mortal who will one day die.

Their friendship is honestly very sweet and I love them both so much.

i just love the relationship between Elda and Koito. she learns a lot from her, but of course Elda's story regarding events from the past has a more "realistic" POV since it is coming from someone who lived through that time period and has some issues being out in public lol

Quite decent episodes, both part of this episode. But I still wonder about why Koito doesn't like Elda's expression / smile on 2nd half of episode. Even wishing Elda doesn't smile with that expression again. Maybe someone can explain?

I'm pretty sure it's because it's a bitter, sad smile, because the topic of immortality is heavy for Elda. She smiles after telling the story where one person was crushed by the departure of someone very dear to him, and when given the choice he forsook the chance to live on forever knowing his daughter wouldnt be in it. He, unlike Elda had a choice, and didn't have to live on forever separated from his loved ones, so Elda must be wishing she was like that. So Koito wanted Elda not to be saddened by her thoughts, and to not show her the fake smile

I hope this show starts bringing back some of the characters it's introduced, the sister, the best friend, the other Miko/elf, while slower episodes like this are nice, I feel this show truly shines when we see Elda interaction with outsiders, and watching Koito try to deal with the aftermath. Having entire episodes where it's just the two of them feels like it drags the pace down a bit. While I enjoyed both halves, I think it wuld have worked better if they were each paired with more high energy parts to compliment them. Overall good episode still.

Another great episode. I always find it interesting that even if Elda is supposedly a god, she prays to 'other gods'. It kinda makes sense from her perspective since she knows she is not a god. Which god does Elda pray to? Japanese gods or gods from her original world? Regarding the holy site, can't Elda change the rule to allow Koito to step inside? I mean she did drag Koito, but Elda is the goddess so she should be able to adjust the rules how she sees fit. Right?

I learned a lot again from this episode.
Japan really has a lot of culture and tradition in its history, and much of it survived or evolved to what it is today. Even on its feudal age, it really was one of the most advanced civilizations during those times.

Like what the theme of the story really wants to show, it must really be hard for Elda to be an immortal in a country which embraces change but holds the past intact in their very soul. She made lots of true friends but being an immortal, she continues to be reminded that she is alone because her friends will one day pass away, and Koito sees that as she reminisces.

Good episode that did get a little deeper and sadder than I anticipated. The first half with Koito spending more time to study and Elda fearing the worst was comedic and a little silly but the second half was a bit sad with the story that Elda told about the guy that rejected the elixir that would've given him immortality because his beloved had returned to the moon (I watched that scene twice to understand why Koito didn't like Elda making that face, kind of like a bittersweet expression in my opinion).

What I took from it is that it is a smile full of sadness, she has outlived and will outlive everyone she meets, so even happy memories can become into bitter / sad / empty ones, remember she decided to become a bit of a hikkikomori out of not wanting to meet new people because she knows she will eventually see them die, and then we don't know what was her life before she was summoned, for all we know she also misses the people from that other side.

This is also a great post to read:

How convenient yet awkward it would be to get to study history with Elda.

Sad seeing how deeply in pain she is always losing people to time and death.

It's truly fascinating that an anime about cute girls doing cute things can hide the premise of inedible end and the fear of immortality so well, just like a fun journey that you know will end indefinitely but you still want to cling onto it till the end.

Half way through now, this show is damn sweet man, really funny and heartwarming, still mad at myself for not watching this during Spring 23 lol. This episode was a great one too, Koito and her studying seemed like a big issue until Elda proposed sushi as a reward for a good grade which worked like a charm on Koito lol, I wish something like this existed for me, I also found the part where she pulled out her phone and wasted an hour on it so damn relatable lol, I’ve gotten better over the years but it is still really easy if you aren’t careful.

And the Skytree bit was very interesting, one of the things I like about this show is the tidbits of Japanese history and we got some of that here, it has me wondering what Elda’s reaction was to the world wars but I’m not sure if we’ll get that giving the show’s nature lol, but the story she told about Mt. Fuji seemed like it might’ve been related to Elda as well which would explain the expression she made that Koito doesn’t like. But, it ended wholesomely with the two of them making goofy prayers, and that’s just the way I like it.
