Anyone else disagrees that tradional animation is by default better than CG?

This is extremely unfair, biased and misleading, you're showing a picture of Jun from the 1998 anime movie against a promotional shot of the tekken 8 game from 2023, there's a 25 year technological gap in the world of computer generated imagery.

a fairer and more representative comparison would be comparing the 1998 character design against the tekken 2 character model.

Yeah I'm a big fan of 3DCG in anime, even though it can't top the very best 2D yet. The sole fact that someone feels the need to point out that good 3DCG is better than mediocre 2D animation, proves how strong the bias against 3DCG is in the anime community.

Only CG I've seen in anime that doesn't look goofy as fuck is Karas and how it was used in Ghost in the Shell and AoT S1.

I'll check them out in full eventually! :)
But just from what I've seen already, I still firmly believe their works would look better if they had the time/money/talent to spare to animate them traditionally. 
Part of why Beastars and Houseki look the way they look is precicely because they try really hard to imitate 2D.
Also, anime is almost always shot in sub-30 fps, (even when it's fully animated in 3D for some reason) so when 3D-models are incorporated, it always looks like a laggy videogame.

It's harder to animate well using 3DCGI than traditional animation, and since anime often uses it as a time saving measure a lot of anime fans have developed a negative reputation of it, but I do think it has been done well in some anime like Houseki no Kuni, Bang Dream, and D4DJ and we'll continue to see series that use it more as an artistic choice than as a way to save time or money.

Really? I thought the intent behind Land of the Lustrous was to make it look unlike other anime, just as Gonzo did with The Count of Monte Cristo.

Yeah. A good CG show can look even better than a good 2D animated shows. An example would be Arcane. The 3D animation in that show is so good it can rival any 2D animation.


Japan still needs to work on their 3D animation but US has really mastered the art of Computer generated animation.

Like everyone else is saying, these examples are super fucking biased.

With that said, no I do not think one is inherently better in every single regard. I prefer 2D over 3D, however that doesn't mean I'm going to prefer the upcoming Rokudou no Onna-tachi over something like Trigun Stampede.
