What is your favorite episode in all of anime?

I'd like to clarify that I don't mean "What do you think is the best episode in all of anime." I don't want to start a debate over pacing and plot payoffs. What I want to know is, what episode out of all of anime has stuck with you the most, whether it be because of a moment you deeply related to, because it offered you some new perspective, or just because it had a moment that made you go "woah."

For me personally, it was episode 29 of Re:Zero. Subaru's relationship with his parents, and with expectations of greatness really hit home for me, so the emotional impact was big.

Probably Eva's final episode. I know a lot of people dislike it, and EoE is my favorite movie ever, but the final episode shares the same conclusions as that film, just from Shinji's mind rather than reality. It's a really optimistic and great ending, the entire anime's just this entire expression of depression and mental illness overall, so when that optimistic and positive ending is the leading theme of the series, it hits really hard and shows that you can escape those moments of despair.

It's probably partly recency bias because I re-watched it last week but episode 6 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is just phenomenal. From the start you can feel something is different. The other one I'm thinking of would be episode 1 of To Your Eternity, it's at least the best first episode I've ever seen.

I'm going to go by the logic that it must be an episode and not just a moment or thing that happened. In which case I actually have an answer, episode 21 of Giant killing. One of the few times that I can recall where I was really engrossed by an anime, they absolutely nailed kubota's debut and made me feel what the characters were feeling on screen. To me that is an exceptional accomplishment.

Hart to say something like that

May be something like episode 15 (Battle of Narita, talk in the cave) then episodes 22 to 25 (starting the massacre Princess and to the end) of first season Code Geass.

Episode 15 (C world, CC flashback), then episodes (starting collective unconscious to the end) 21 to 25 of second season of Code Geass.

Episode 9 of Black Lagoon (best of Roberta)

First and final episode of Elfen Lied.

Episode 11 of Fate/Zero

Episodes 21 and 22 of Kaiji

Gintama episodes 98 and 99 then episode 109

Final ark of Utena starting episode 34 with exception of the very last episode may be.

Episode 5 of second season of Overlord, where he sits on Shalltear. Nothing can beat a vampire chair.

That is what I can recall for now. I think I can remember more if I think more.

Mine is probably Parent and Child from Re:Zero as well, although Hunter x Hunter episode 131 is basically tied with it. Both are perfection.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure part 6 episode 38: What a Wonderful World.

I was almost tearing up at the end, and I already read the manga, so I knew exactly what was coming. What an incredible adaptation. As much as I disliked Netflix's batch release strategy for Stone Ocean, I'll always be grateful to David Productions for doing justice to one of my favorite pieces of media.

Also, the
variant of the opening was hype as fuck, and it made it seem like DP and Kamikaze Douga had this planned from the beginning.

The final episode of code geass. Even if the conclusion to the entire world peace issue was kinduva reach. The character conclusions of all the leads was wrapped up neatly. Also the music and the visuals go banoodles. Great execution

Two episodes will stick out for me when talking about best episode

Re:Zero's episode 18 "From Zero" will always remain as one of the only episodes which I connected on a personal level to.

And then Demon Slayer's episode 19 "Hinokami" I something I rewatch every month.

Side note but, Chainsaw man's episode 9 "From Kyoko" was also great, but I haven't had enough time to see if that's just recently bias, or if the episode is amazing

Last episode of "Chrono Crusade".

People say "Code Geass" has probably the best ending in all of anime. For me that's Clannad After Story's snowy ending.
Others would say "SNK", or "Kimetsu no Yaiba" have the best first episode. For me it's "Fumetsu no Anata e".

However my earliest memory of crying over an anime, was ep 24 "Chrono". which makes it my favorite by default.

NGE ep 19 - Introjection; the one with the battle with Zeruel. I think it is one of the most tense episodes in the series, and it is a turning point for all the main characters, I also really like the final combat and the part where unit 01 eats the angel, it is so raw and animalistic

 kageki shoujo episode 8

This episode was mind blowing. Gives background to a supporting character, it's just a short 22 minutes long history on her but it's sooo damn good.
You don't even need to watch the 7 previous episodes, it's like a short film inside a 12 episode anime.

Nisemonogatari toothbrush episode.

I’m not even joking. It’s just so stupid and absurd, I can’t help but laugh all the way through xD I went into it completely blind.

Paranoia Agent Episode 8 is a good one too. I kinda wish it was a longer OVA or something, I liked it that much.

My favorite anime episode of all time is probably To Your Eternity S1 EP1. It was the perfect first episode. The series could end there and I'd still be satisfied. It's mind-boggling what they managed to accomplish in such a short time span.

Honestly I don't know but the first thing that comes to mind is Re:Zero S1 Episode 15, That episode was just straight up insane and has stuck with me. Other than that K-On!! graduation episode could quite possibly also be my favorite, it's hard to pick between those two.

This is just one of my favorite episodes.

K-On s1 episode 13: "Winter days".

This ep feels kinda like a bonus. Compared to the rest of the first season, this episode's art style has a much more cinematic feel to it like s2. It's almost like a bridge between the two seasons. An unusual melancholy atmosphere as each of the girls are separate doing their own thing. And a hint of mystery too.

Madoka Magica's 10th episode, "I Won't Rely on Anyone Anymore"  I have re-watched this episode at least 15 times.
Even without the context of the rest of the show I find this episode beautiful, If someone with no knowlede of the show watched it, they would still have a complete, albeit depressing, story.

Naruto Shippuden episode 478 because it was the first anime I ever watched and grew up alongside with, so it felt like I was saying goodbye.

Assassination Classroom Season 2 episode 24 because I had never cried so much in my entire life it's crazy.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes episode 54 because it was the most epic meeting in all of anime, it met all of my expectations and more.

I would say the Gintama: The Final movie but it doesn't count since it's a movie, so I'll say episode 305 because not only was it the most impactful episode up until that point, it delivered the answer to one of the most wanted unanswered questions in Gintama throughout its run.

Haikyuu season 3 episode 10 because it is hype incarnate.

Seven Deadly Sins Season 3 episode 10 because it revealed one of the craziest plot twists I've seen in all of anime.

The episode that I would pick for Mushoku Tensei hasn't been adapted yet. For light novel readers, it's the event with Orsted in turning point 4.

There's a bunch more, but those are the ones that stand out to me the most. There's also a bunch of moments that haven't been adapted into anime yet that I would have added here.

Episode 8 of Galaxy Angel Z, "Wedding Cake Combiner Special." The main cast is tasked with testing a giant robot and their boss sings his own theme song for it.

Another great one is Episode 35 of Stardust Crusaders, "D'Arby the Gambler Part 2." Jotaro vs D'Arby is my favorite fight in all of JJBA.

One Piece episode 129. The Straw Hats leave Alabasta as Vivi waves to them and they rip off the bandages on their arms, revealing the X on their arms that they all had to identify themselves. They couldn't say goodbye because of the navy, but this was a sentimental moment that the 7 of them shared. And We Are! played as they left, closing out one of my favorite arcs. Beautiful.

the first episode of ga-rei zero. in medias res.
it speedruns an entire anime season, simply THAT much happens in 20 minutes.
it's also urban fantasy with demons, swords, guns, and a motorcycle that makes a magic circle.
so much despair you're left wondering what the hell happened until the story catches up to that moment.
it's an amazing ride.
