| Hmm.. This is actually a really good question! I love reading about this from others! :^D Well, I guess I'd have to say for my taste: 1. Penguindrum for its surrealism, drama, and supernatural qualities. Plus, its quirky structure of presenting major themes and building characters was really fun! 2. Alien 9 for its pseudo-superflat art style and 90s aesthetic, plus its surrealist and supernatural imagery that blends its drama well with the slice of life moments! and 3. Parasyte for its extensive focus on story and realism despite its supernatural qualities. Love how a lot of the more surreal scenes remain unexplained, but can be figured out by thinking about it and trying to understand it. I guess I really just love a good surreal story x'D |

| I guess it would be 1. Shingeki no Kyojin (Action focusing on being as intense, epic and solid screenwriting as possible) 2. Sangatsu no Lion (Drama that focus on going as deep as possible into the characters, but that also cares for direction and solid screenwriting) 3. Kaguya-sama (Comedy that is really cleaver, has an excelletn variety of its jokes and consequently manages to be hilarious and has solid screenwriting) Basically, have a good story and don't be childish. Unfortunately, shitty and childish anime are what its being mostly praised nowadays |
