So a couple of months ago, I posted a topic where I shared with you guys that a live-action Cowboy Bebop is coming. Most people are pessimistic about it but there are some who are cautious about the Netflix adaptation.

Netflix posted the opening credits of the upcoming Netflix adaptation around three weeks ago on the TUDUM! Event. It featured Tank! by The Seatbelts.

Now, Netflix recently uploaded a teaser, a lost session of sorts. Don't worry, a proper trailer is coming about a week from now. The full series will be released on the 19th of November 2021.

What do you guys think especially on that teaser? For some reason, I couldn't stop smiling about it. Sure it was kinda cringey and some actions don't feel natural (due to the editing), but it might actually work if the show realizes not to be serious about it because they know that a 1:1 Cowboy Bebop adaptation will never work. I'm actually kinda stoked really. We'll see.

EDIT (27th of October 2021):
The Official Trailer just got released!

EDIT (16th of November 2021):
Yoko Kanno is back redefining the music of the upcoming live-action series.

The opening made me cringe but this new trailer honestly doesn't look too bad. It looks kinda hokey in many respects but they've actually got the crew's dynamic down quite nicely and it looks like it'll at least embody some of the original show's playful vibrancy.

Felt like I was one of the few people on here who was pretty high on the series after they showed off the production shots a little while back and honestly, I feel even more bullish on the show now.

I thought that Tank opening was well done and loved how there are like at least 10 references to different episodes thrown in. That was a nice touch to see. Plus the style just felt right.

The teaser trailer again seems to hit the vibe and style of the show pretty well. Honestly felt optimistic about it before and now I'm just excited. Seems like it could be legit, really good.

Honestly looks fun and seems like the production has some passion behind it. I think there is nothing wrong with comparing it to the original but I think some people need to realize that this isn't meant to be a 1:1 adaptation of the anime so of course it's going to be different. IMO it looks like one of the better Netflix productions. So as a Cowboy Bebop fan, I am excited to see something new.

Looks awesome I am really excited for this. I need to watch more live action adaptations in the mean time, last one I watched was TERRA FORMARS (2017).

What do you guys think? Ngl, the CGI sets looks actually good. It's better than I expected. Although, the fighting chereography seems campy, not sure what to say but we'll see. Spike's seems depressed most of the time, Faye's arrogant like the anime, and Jet's seems mature among them, and the most important character, Ein, is hella adorable. This could be incredibly good or disgustingly trash.

I'm actually going to watch this. Whatever happens... happens.

Btw, the Japanese Trailer features the original Japanese cast!

I don't know about this. I remember feeling pretty excited when Keanu Reeves was attached to the project over a decade ago... but now I'm seeing this... It just looks kind of corny. Which the anime series totally is, but I just don't know if it's translated well to live action. I'll check it out, but I don't have high hopes.

This is said without having seen the trailer, nor having plans to.

From first second's glance at the preview images, the casting director leaves a lot to be desired. Executive production seems to have had oversight on the lighting direction. The resulting post-production falls flat. The artists will work with the material they are given, but directive oversight dilute the possibilities. Marketing fails to ensure a solid first impression experience. The font is not enticing. The Netflix name solidified my first impression. No comment on costume design, as apparently they did not hire anyone for this off the rack job.

At this point, it is best to stick to anime, Korean shows and classic Hollywood things like X-Files. Modern Hollywood is running out of ideas and are too stuck up to bring us better entertainment.

Speaking of X-Files, I'll pick up where I left off and forget about live-action remakes. The Jungle Book one was meh! By the way.

Looks decent. I look forward to watching it. While I don't expect a 1 to 1 copy I do hope it doesn't stray to far from the original.

I'm still not watching it and everything Daniella Piñeda says is an automatic OK echo boomer. Nobody cared about that millennial in the Jurassic World sequel and neither do I.

Typical Hollywood and their laziness, tomfoolery, whatever. How can I respect Hollywood if they don't respect anime and their costumers?

It seems to me that Hollywood doesn't respect southeast Asians either. So much for that diversity they cared so much about. The Raya movie as of late didn't even give southeast Asians proper representation.

Know this Hollyweird, that homosexuality is unacceptable to some degree in that part of Asia. Why? Ask the British Empire (they dominated a good deal of the world before and their policies didn't tolerate any LGBT people or things).

They should have her compose new music instead. What a waste.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, this remake flopped.

If only Hollywood knew that remakes suck in the long run and the last successful remake they ever did was Charlie and The Chocolate Factory which was a long time ago.

Hollywood attempting live-action and cheap CG adaptations of anime is the dumbest idea ever. They pull some crap like that simply because they are running out of ideas.

I knew Hollywood was going to suck ever since they aired those cheap Syfy original movies.

Ultimately, I enjoy this in the same way I enjoy the 1994 Street Fighter movie starring Jean Claude Van Damme, but in a different way.

The guy who plays Jet does a great job, and I feel he really carries the show. Without him, I don't think I could've opened up to Spike and Faye. It took me a while to warm up to the notion of John Cho playing Spike. It'll be hard to put the original performance of Steve Blum into a live action, but Cho did his best with what he has to work with.

For better or worse, I appreciate that the show does its best to capture the original aesthetic of the anime. Do I think it's a model on how anime should be adapted? Maybe not. Some of the quirkiness of the original anime doesn't translate well into live action, and I think this is a good example of that. I appreciate it keeps the original soundtrack, it's the soul of the series.

I understand why Julia is used differently in this series, but the way she is portrayed here takes a lot of the mystery of what makes the anime so special, even to this day. The way Viscious is portrayed as neurotic just doesn't translate well to live action.

As a concept, I do like the live action Cowboy Bebop. In execution, is it bad? It could be worse. If I had to choose between this and Dragonball Evolution, I'm picking this one.

As for how I feel about the action, this video perfectly sums it up.

Are there better ways to do live action anime? Yes, some notable examples are Battle Angel Alita, Gokusen (season 1), Nodame Cantabile, and the 1998 GTO series.

Got to acclaim the actors for their efforts but Japanese animation is just too expressive in articulation to translate into a live action. There's always the tell between trying to stay faithful to the material and not effectively being able to. Julia and Vicious have thus far come out the worst in my opinion. I'm only on episode 5. It works a smidge if you pretend that it's in no way related to the anime. Reminds me a bit of Sin City, if only they kept that formula going. That said, I don't think it's as terrible as other live action adaptations. It can be a good time if you're taking it for what it is and simply having fun with it.

John Cho is definitely not my Spike but damn that man do be looking good. Wing Chun dummy scene was rewatchable. ๐Ÿ‘€

It is bad, now even the supporters are twisting it around - Cowboy Bebop was *supposed* to be bad, and if you get upset about it being bad you're just an anime purist who missed the point.

Netflix's ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Isn't Supposed to Be Good

However this is from the same crowd who if you make one little "problematic" element in some other show they're pointing and screaming like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. for example the same outlets were doing the whole anti-Alita thing despite that not making any sense to be upset about.

I see that the creators liked the series and obviously passionate about it. But it still sucks shit. So much unnecessary dialogue everywhere and though they "tried" to make it cinematically unique by using interesting angles and perspectives, it just felt distracting. The sets really broke my immersion. The ship was fine but the casino in the first scene, it's like "really?" this is in the future outer space? Either make it more grungy or make it more futuristic, buying a casino set looks like one I just went to last weekend.

And adding all these add on's with the character backstories and families. Not needed. Making the episodes long did nothing but drag.

I honestly wanted to go in with an open mind on this, I even defended it from my friends like "lets wait to watch it" nah. And now everyone's brain washed that the new One Piece live action is gonna be grand. Yeesh.

There's a ton of "western" shove ins that I just squinted hard at. Like an ocassional curse sure but she was going off like a sailor. Feels like they were trying to make it more "adult" which *gag*.

I enjoyed the live action Cowboy Bebop. I liked how it ended and hopefully there is a season 2. Some of the story is different so it doesn't feel like I am watching a carbon copy of the anime. It had the feel of a science fiction show made in the 1990s or before with all the push button keyboards and other science fiction made with the technology at the time. But that is probably what they were going for.

Then it got canceled after season one. That ought to teach Hollywood to cash in on failed remakes. I also feel sorry for Cho getting hired to do some Hollywood vanity project.

Every attempt that Hollywood makes at cashing in on existing properties or anime is futile.

Face it, Reed Hastings! Everything that you do is an automatic OK boomer. The same goes to Kathleen Kennedy and her dumbass Star Wars T-shirt, Hollywood trash! From riches to rags they go.

Nothing against John Cho or anything, but him being Spike Spiegel is such a weird casting choice to me lol. Overall, I'd personally skip this live-action Cowboy Bebop.
