Kucchu Buranko is a great anime that I don't think a lot of people have seen.

I described this show as "surreal" or as an "insane, crazy, mind-trip" and that's largely to do with its art direction. I really love this Anime.

Nijiiro Hotaru: Eien no Natsuyasumi is rather nice, albeit with a cookie-cutter ending that defies all logic. Still, so long as you're willing to bear the pretty lacklustre visuals, it's not a bad way to spend an hour and change

Miyori no mori I personally didn't like but I can see why other people would so hey, if you find it give it a try (again, bearing in mind that the looks will be pretty bad).

Series-wise, I still think kemurikusa can be fairly nice to watch. It's nothing more than average but if the first 2 episodes don't put you off immediately, chances are you'll like it.

The Koihime Musou (Unrivalled Love Princess) series, there's 3 seasons plus a bunch of OVA's and Specials and i love every one. It's based on an eroge game, although I've never played it.

It's cgdct action show set in Ancient China with the warring kingdoms, where each leader is a gorgeous woman or cute girl. There are some males in the show, but they've either villains or buffoons. Plenty of yuri fan service, bright colours and packed episodes.

The only issue i have is the complicated naming code they have in that Chinese era, where people each have a nickname/warrior name, a family name and a given name. So 3 names for each person and when there's a large cast (30 plus by the 2nd season), it gets confusing quickly.

If you like cgdct action shows (eg Azur Lane, Strike Witches or Etotama) then try this show out.

When I started watching this I thought it might be yet another show whose sole purpose was to show its female cast in clothes that barely cover them; the cleavage exposing costumes and large breasts certainly fit that type of show; thankfully the fan service isn't over done and the characters are fun to watch; I especially liked Chohi who provided most of the laughs. With only twelve episodes the series doesn't seem too long, there are however two further series called 'Shin Koihime Musou' and 'Shin Koihime Musou - Otome Tairan' that I have yet to see.

Tanoshii Muumin Ikka.
Not what I would call rare but has less then 20k users listed on MAL.
This show was part of my childhood growing up. It had whimsy and scares and adorable characters and yet no one really talk about it any more. It has had a couple of recent films and a new series but I didn't hear a lot of mentions for them.

Oban Star Racers
This is a highly underrated Sc-fi Show. It has a great unique art to it and I love the characters. More MAL members then Moomin but I think less people actually know this exists. It's enjoyable at any age.

It's pretty funny that the Koihime Musou games are all isekai. Makes you wonder how it would be adapted nowadays.

While World Masterpiece Theater shows have a really niche following, I think Perrine Monogatari is sorely overlooked among them for how good it is.

No phenomenon has had such a large impact on my childhood as the Moomins. I was a sucker for the awesome comics by Lars and Tove Jansson, I bought tons of little models of the cast of characters. As I grew older and a brain, I read through all of the wonderfully atmospheric novels which, after all, started it all. But the single most powerful thing about the Moomins was the TV show. It had it all.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/8928/Visions_of_Frank__Short_Films_by_Japans_Most_Audacious_Animators
Every episode is done in different technique, last one using a one I never heard of before. Based on Frank comics.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/10003/Kago_Shintarou_Anime_Sakuhin_Shuu
Guro comedy shorts. I found the latter half better.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/29777/Baka_Baka_Baka_na_Sekai
One of Yoji Kuri shorts. He's made a lot of garbage (I have yet to watch all of his works), but I wouldn't call this one it. Deep shit.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/23059/Shinsatsushitsu
By the Nami creator. Much better and less gross.

And my personal favourite:
https://myanimelist.net/anime/39020/Flying_Luna_Clipper
Plot is shit, but the only reason I liked it so much is because of the aesthetics. 50 minutes long and looks like a 16-bit video game. Bit vaporwave.

Edit: I forgot this:

On a Recent Forum Discussion I came a cross with this.
And Now, Im replying to you with your OWN massage when you first discovered [i]Konpeki no kantai[i] like me doing now. What coincidence!

kek what a coincidence. I searched for it right after I posted in that thread. It sounded way too interesting to pass. It's a very long show and there are no translations out there but it's a worthwhile watch if you can understand it.

BELLADONNA OF SADNESS (or Kanashimi no Belladonna). On the description is categorized as a hentai, but it is not. But it do have explicit sex and rape scenes.

The anime happens in France, on Middle Age, when only noble men could detain power. The MC is a beautiful girl that got married with a villager and, like every girl by then (now still) she suffers countless violence. Her story is about how she deals with a terrible husband, the war, economic crises and sexual desire.

It's a cool psychedelic movie. Makes you realize how difficult women's life has always been. You should watch. But be careful, if you're looking for good animation you won't get it.

Sasurai no Taiyou is quite obscure, but is among the best anime I've ever seen. It was finally fansubbed in 2019. A young Tomino worked on it, and it's widely considered to be the first anime that focused on the then-contemporary Japanese music scene, and what would eventually be referred to as "Idols." The main character, Nozomi Mine is based off the musical career of Keiko Fuji, who was Hikaru Utada's mother.

Uchuusen Sagittarius is a great space adventure that very few English speakers are aware of. It's also fully subtitled. The characters are very realistic, and develop throughout their experiences. Don't let the character designs fool you. It's based off an Italian comic strip, so that's why it may not look like an anime at first glance, but trust me, it's a masterpiece.

Lots of obscure anime I've been meaning to get to and many more that I've never heard about, what a pleasant surprise of a thread. Here's my humble offering:

Furiko tells a more touching story in four minutes than most shows manage in an entire season.

Kobutori (1929) looks really good for something that was animated almost a hundred years ago.

Ningyo is a short and sweet story by the legendary Osamu Tezuka himself.

Nobunaga no Shinobi is probably my favorite anime set during the Sengoku Jidai, and really funny as well.

I really enjoyed Teizokurei Daydream. It's a unique twist on crime-solving anime.

Check it out, I recommend!

I will be sure to do so.
Thanks for sharing.
