One song that stands out particularly to me is Mozart’s Requiem Lacramosa in Hunter x Hunter, I think it adds a lot of drama and tension to the Phantom Troupe arc. Made me curious what other uses of classical music stand out to you.

Gymnopedie No. 1 is my jam. If you use it in a clever way in your anime, I'll watch it (Haruhi movie, Manie-Manie, Ano Hi no Kanojo-tachi, etc.)

The use of Dvořák; Symphony No. 9 in E minor, "From New World" - Allegro con fuoco in Legend of the Galactic Heroes during a space battle. That was grand.

I might have heard Clair de Lune from Claude Debussy in Chunibyou but I'm absolutely not sure of it.

And it's not from an ancient composer but the musics in Kuroshitsuji, from the few episodes i've watched, are indeed inspired of the classical theme, and can be surprisingly good, here's an example :

I like Bach. I'm very fond of that scene from End of Evangelion when they use Air as the bgm. Hyouka always feels so classy having mainly classical music as ost with again, Bach's music like Cello Suite 1. There's one scene in Psycho Pass where they used Ode to Joy in a cat & mouse chase/duel. The buildup was great. There's probably more examples but I can't come up with them rn

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I'll say the entire soundtrack of LotGH as well, as they have dozens of highly acclaimed songs that fit so well with the series, giving the show that timeless feel that you hardly see anywhere else.

Chopin "Wrong Note" in You Lie in April. It make audience who didn't know classical music like me :) feel that Kousei can't hear the tone because it create perfect dissonance. The second half of the song better compared to the first part. It capturing perfectly that finaly Kousei can play the right note.

Liz to Aoi Tori is the name of both the anime and the modern classical composition it centers around. It's special because the composition isn't just a mood-amplifier for a story or character theme, it is an equal layer of the overall piece of art the movie is. Maybe even a little more then equal, given it's titular. Plus, it's a beautiful composition just as well.

"Gymnopedies" from Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu. It and it's variations are used and interpreted so well, in the most clever and aesthetic way I have ever seen in anime. The "theme song" term should be defined by how KyoAni used Gymnopedies in their decade anime 10 yrs ago (to me).

Combination of soft notes and massive slaughter was unexpectedly pleasing.

God fucking damn it, I still sometimes watch episode 15's start just for that.

Aside from LoTGH of course, Princess Tutu was also quite great at it, and on average did sync the music and the shot composition much better than LoTGH ever did, so I would definitely praise its direction.

I love it when they put classical piano music. Argonavis had Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu and Anima Yell had Scott Joplin's Ragtime Dance.

The music: Franz Liszt's "Liebestraum"

That struck me as the perfect piece for the scene. ^.^

You recall correctly, it was Bach's "Ave Maria". The show also had other classical songs featured and used them well, but I remember the show's usage of "Ave Maria" even after all these years—it's one of my favorite uses of classical music in anime as well.

Re:Zero's Requiem of Silence is the best thing I could hear of. Since I love most orchestral music, I think this OST serves as my best soundtrack in anime IMO.

I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to classical music, but I really enjoy Nodame Cantabile, and if I had to pick just one instance of the use of classical music, it'd probably be from that show.
