Trying to get into Visual novels. Only one I liked was " The house in the Fata Morgana " It was fascinating. Since then I tried Date a Live's Visual novel since I'm a huge fan of the anime series and yet I was bored.

Tried Marco & The Galaxy Dragon introduction to the story was way too long, so I was out. Tried Corpse party almost fall asleep. Tried Utawarerumono games but it was boring so I'm looking forward to your recommendations, genre doesn't matter. Just need something with interesting start and quality story.

Personally, I feel that is very impossible to ultimately judge a Visual Novel in just 10 minutes. That is just way too fast for me. There are Visual Novels that have awfully slow start and of course, those kinds of Visual Novels will make me feel bored at the beginning and that means they required more time commitment. I never let myself to judge any Visual Novels in just 10 minutes, whether their start/prologue is either very strong or very slow.

If you want Visual Novels that will instantly give you some good impression, short(2-10 or 10-30 hours) Visual Novels are for you.

I would recommend you the Fault series, they are short but very well-written. The only thing I would say is that I'm not sure if you would be captivated by just 10 minutes since it's one of those VNs that you realize how good it really was by the time you're finishing reading it, although both the first novel and the second start with an interesting fight against the antagonists immediately when you start reading so it might be your cup of tea. Just don't expect to have that all the time like a typical Shonen anime since the focus of the novel is science, magic and human drama, not just action.

You can see the first minutes of the VN here if you want to check it out.

I know what you mean, at some point it almost feels like I'm forcing myself to like it, but I really enjoyed the House in Fata Morgana so maybe I'm just picky. I feel the same selectivity when i look for new books to read.

Yeah, right now there's the first entry of the series which is Fault: Milestone One, the one you saw. Then the sequel that continues exactly to where Milestone one ends which is Fault: Milestone Two Side:Above, and another sequel which they plan to release before the end of this year that will also continue to where Above ends, which is Fault: Milestone Two Side:Below. There's also a prequel in the works that is set some years before the beginning of the story called Fault: Silence the Pedant, which they originally planned to release before Side:Below but it has been postponed until Side:Below is finished. So yeah, the story is not finished yet but it's very worth your time. You might feel it has a slow pace at first because the narrative first is about showing you the characters and their personality, but if you like psychological thriller and human drama, and seeing you liked The House in Fata Morgana, I think you can enjoy Fault too.

Yeah, you were right, I started playing it and even the prologue was powerful. starting directly middle of the war is also exciting. It looks like you really like this series my man, thank you for sharing.

I'm gonna second Root Double. In fact, most murder mysteries hook you right at the start. Give Danganronpa a try also if you haven't.

I'm quite surprised you were able to quickly get into Fata Morgana since the VN is known for its very slow beginning.

First story (Brother and sister) was fascinating. You can almost feel the sinister tone under its joyful story so it kept me intrigued. After seeing the ending to their story I was 100% hooked even before knowing the overarching theme. Btw " Root Double " is " Root Double -Before Crime * After Days- " Right ?

Yep, that's the one.

The VN is divided into four arcs, and the first one should hook you right away. The main issue for most people is the second arc since that's where the story kinda crawls to a halt (it's more of a slice-of-life than suspense mystery). The remaining two arcs are as good as the first, though.

In my opinion Saya no uta had a great start, it piqued my curiosity from the get go. I had never experienced something like this from a visual novel, it was so creepy and unsettling, before this, all of the vns I played(?) were just about some cute girls doing cute things.

inganock you get shown a steam/cyberpunk esque world. the novel literally starts with a doctor dismantling some dude in the streets after they attacked him.
