| Man I'm hyped for this as well, Cloverworks have done some pretty great ass works and their animation is always good, plus the director looks pretty solid. Also the guy in charge of music also composed music for Stardust Crusaders which has some of my favourite OST's, so you bet I'm excited. I love a good mystery anime, and the characters also look interesting, I really like it when you have two characters who have to strive to get along and settle differences. I'll be waiting in anticipation for this. |

| I read the novel a while ago. It was released in the 80's, so it's a fairly difficult read (like 信天翁航海録 but in terms of obscurity rather than complexity) if one's learnt their Japanese from vns, anime or manga. But it's not obsolete at all: it's aged like A. Christie's works, and gained charm rather than lost it. I had read ロートレック荘事件 before, so I more or less knew what to expect... except not really. The author doesn't betray your expectations; he redirects them towards a direction you couldn't have expected and only then delivers. Abundantly. I loved the narration style (characters talking directly to the reader; sometimes being haughty enough to just say they won't describe something in detail since it'd be too lengthy and they CBA) and I think it could work amazingly well in an anime. Akin to Kyon's cynical remarks on Haruhi's eccentricities. Really hope this particular notion will be adapted since it made all the difference. And the idea of using insane amounts of money to solve a case was fresh - I've never encountered anything quite like it in western novels. Insufficient clues? Just use a couple hundred thousand dollars to procur them then! Brilliant detectives? Yes, but first and foremost: filthily rich ones! The source material is great and the people responsible for this adaptation are all brilliant craftsmen, so I'm kinda hyped. The potential is huge. |

They're most likely going to either distill the main points and cut off all the fluff and fuzz, or borrow the setting and characters for a loosely adapted story that kinda stays true to the original and kinda does its own thing. |

| Sooo ... there is a novel as source - according to MAL. First thought it was going to be some Otome game adaption because of the guys. According to Wikipedia the novel exists and does have a slightly different setting. Main char it seems is a female and in the anime they changed chars (male but same family name + other chars with different names). They might have used the novel only as inspiration following a similar/same plot while changing it so it will cater to female fans. I will give the first episode a try - since it is scored pretty high on MAL. But not expecting that much. (If the main was at least female as in the novel ... I might have expected more. Yakushiji Ryouko for example in the past was a good female detective anime.) Edit: Btw ... the char design is cool. One of the guys visually reminds me of the russian named guy from the latest Psycho Pass. Edit2: Someone told me that the anime is actually closer to the novel. The English Wikipedia has the entry for the tv drama which uses a female main while the novel has a male main char. After watching episode 1 (also saw this is noitaminA ... didn't know that before) I can say: Hilarious comedy. I like it. Nothing about it feels "gay" or as if there was forced homosexuality in it. Feels like pure comedy built on the fact that the rich guy just buys everything and has an AI butler he talks to that can to almost every transaction in real time. :D |
