>implying MAL users have friends

There I made the joke

But just curious, do you prefer watching with a friend (or friends if you somehow have more than one friend who enjoys anime) or by yourself? Does it vary with genre or the specific show? Do you watch multiple series with someone at a time? Do you prefer watching anime movies with friends instead?

Depends on the show, it's easier to sit through trash with friends than on your own.

I mostly watch anime alone, since I can focus more on the show.

Though, I/I'd like watching comedy shows with my friends...

I would love to watch anime with my friends, but I don't really have many friends who watch anime, so I usually watch it alone.
But really it depends from anime to anime, I would prefer to watch romance/action/comedy/slice of life with my friends, but thriller/supernatural/tragedy/anything deep alone.

Good mood: With friends, watching together.
Bad mood: Alone, watching some anime.
Great mood: Alone, binge watch all day long.

I always watch anime by myself. I only have a few friends and only 2 of them are into anime. And by that i mean they only watch DBZ, DBS, and the occasional shonen.

Mostly by myself. Of course, if there's an anime or two that seems interesting to my boyfriend, our friends and myself - then we'll watch it together.

Does it vary with genre or the specific show?

For the most part, yes.

Do you watch multiple series with someone at a time?

No, not really.

Do you prefer watching anime movies with friends instead?

Again, not really.

I want to watch with my close people. Especially in comedy and parody series they are the best when you want to laugh even more.
I feel bad when I can't relate to anyone when I'm watching hilarious or good stuff! Is the saying "the food taste better when you eat it with your friends" something like that.
But my friends who watch anime aren't really into anime. They don't watch it so much like me.

Usually I only watch anime alone, but when I have the chance I could rewatch some animes I've watched with my friends. I Prefer watching more "touching" animes alone though. Can't really enjoy them as much with other people.

They don't have to be. Mostly when I watch with friends I'm talking about MAL friends and we just have this chat window open (in skype or discord or telegram) while we both watch the episode. Much more chill than watching together with someone on rl, I also find that awkward.

I like watching shows with friends, I like the commentary we have, to me watching anime is a social thing. I do watch some stuff alone, but that's like 5% of all I watch.

If I'm alone, I usually end up playing video games.

I have always found it unhealthy to watch anime with "friends" already one of the stereotypes: band of friends no lifes prepuperbs touching on the loli this is really disgusting people who make groups to watch anime. And two if it's to have a nozzle that say what you want to hear or just the opposite a big son of a bitch that exists just criticizing no thank you.

I 99% of the time watch alone, but I like watching with friends because experiencing and sharing something I love with others is great, only problem is that I can count the number of my friends that watch anime on one hand.

Even tho' I like watching with friends, I hate when they don't pay attention (usually by checking their damn instagram/FB/Snapchat or whatever on their phone) and then ask me to tell them what they missed.

I used to watch anime with my friend before and I found it nice to see his reactions usually.

But recently, I prefer watching anime alone because he's now mostly asking goddamn questions instead of watching silently.

If it's boring, I'll watch it with friends, but if it isn't, I'll watch it alone. The reason why is because they will constantly talk every 10 seconds, causing every detail to be missed.

I usually watch anime alone since everyone has varying schedules of free time versus school, clubs, work, and classes. But sometimes if we feel nostalgic, we'll watch an old series/movies together or share something from our childhood shows. Better yet sometimes during semester breaks we'll pick an anime from the last season none of us has seen at random and binge the whole thing no matter how good/bad. I think it makes it more enjoyable.

My way of watching anime is so peculiar that even the best friend in the world would not want to share that experience.

The only good thing that I see to that is to be able to share thoughts and all that, and of course, at least it would end in a nice fight and a friendship less.

It largely depends on what I'm watching. If it's a show which doesn't require that much investment, like a shounen or comedy, then watching it with friends could elevate the experience somewhat. If it's a more surreal kind of anime like Mushishi or Shinsekai Yori, then it's better to watch with no distractions.

It's easier to watch a movie or an OVA series with friends since you can watch them in one sitting and talk about it afterwards. Watching TV series can span several days depending on the length of the anime, and if you plan to watch it with a friend, you won't be able to progress as quickly if their schedule doesn't match your own.

As for the type of anime? Lively anime are more likely to be enjoyed with friends than anime that are more mellow and steady. So Action, Sports, and Comedy would be the types of genres that friends can enjoy more, while Slice of Life anime might be better for watching alone since there might not be much to discuss. Romance/Drama are a mixed bag. The experience of watching Romance/Drama anime with a friend can be better or worse if your friend is your significant other.

I have two friends irl who also watch anime but they're more casual about it so stuff like One Punch Man or Boku no Hero Academia is fine for them and fun to watch together. However, anything other than that and they would probably just cringe at my shit taste lol. So yeah, I guess I prefer to watch anime alone but some anime can be more fun to watch with friends.

Some shows are definitely easier to watch with friends. Trash shows that are hilariously bad or just downright awful are better watched with friends so you can mock it together and maybe even enjoy the experience a bit. Other shows like psychological thrillers I might prefer to watch alone I suppose it depends on my overall mood.

Well, I do have friends who watch anime. But they watch less than I do. They dont watch anime that came out recently like for example Boku no Hero Academia or Black Clover for example. I have other friends who do, but they're pretty far apart from where I live.

Either way, I prefer watching alone, not just because I like it better that way, but also because I've got the habit of talking to the characters or myself while watching anime. I only watch anime with friends when I want to introduce a certain anime I've already seen to them, or the other way round (doesn't happen often though).
