I only rate the first season of the anime and then change it wherever i liked/disliked the next seasons. All of the seasons are left unrated. Do you seperate them differently or do just like me? It was kinda hard for me to do so for example in Monogatari series because there were a shiny seasons and worse ones but i managed to rate it properly ^^

Hmm, I rated Gintama as a whole, but I rate separately for other anime.

I rate them like a separate series. I have thought about leaving later seasons blank and just rating the first, but its just too often that an anime will have a crappy second season. or a really good one compared to the first

Independently. SAO, for example, i enjoyed the forst season to a fair extent (not saying its bad or good calm down peps). Then season 2 comes. It was so boring i bet you could use an episode as a lulaby. But i still liked season 1 even if season 2 wasnt as good. So i kinda look at seasons like endependent series. For a the series as a hole i think i just go with the average score i gave them.

I rate it just like you mostly because my average rating would be too high since i liked every season of monogatari series, lol

I definitely rate them separately. Sometimes a good or mediocre anime can have a terrible second season, but that doesn’t change what was established during the first season. For an extreme example, Tokyo Ghoul is seen as meh/serviceable, but the sequel is known for being bad because of pacing and writing problems that weren’t present in the original.

Sometimes animators, directors and writers will change between season, and they’re almost like entirely different productions that share the same characters.

It really depends on how consistent the anime season was, some of them are consistent enough to consider them as a single entity, some are different enough to be rated separately. It's all very relative, in my opinion. Other people in this thread are already stated some very valid points.

Well you know seasons always have something different to offer, some bad and some good. But I rate spring season the highest.. spring usually comes out with the most exciting anime. Especially this upcoming spring.. it's looking hella lit fam

Thought once about doing it like this, but imo it wouldn't really reflect my thoughts.

Especially for cases like Clannad, while I enjoyed season one it's nothing compared to the greatness of After Story and I wouldn't really feel well with settling for an average of 8 for both.

Other cases are the first seasons of Assassination Classroom and Little Busters!,they were pretty solid, but their second seasons outshadowed them by quite a large margin, even if just for certain scenes.

Or the first season of Chuunibyou was also a lot more enjoyable than it's sequel.

To sum it up, I don't want to rate a whole franchise lower if I have the option to show that I'm a fan of it.

I rate them separately, first season's final score is usually also next season's initial score, and it can change for better or for worse as I continue the series.

I always rate them separately. Many times I've liked one season more than another.

Not like I care much about ratings anyways.

OP, do you not see the flaws with giving a rating for the series as a whole? An average rating be misleading towards a certain franchise (it could have a slow start and get progressively better and vice versa). There is a reason why I found Major S3 to be greater than the season after. They essentially cover different arcs so it is only natural they get separate ratings.

I rate them separately here because it's the way MAL treats them and then I do a weighted average by "franchise" on a spreadsheet.

It depends really but mostly a sequel is just a continuation of a story that you can rate stuff with sequels as one. Doesn't really makes much sense to rate a continuing story differently. (so yeah, I don't get why ppl rate Code Geass r1 and r2). Exceptions to the rule really depends on my mood, tbh. There isn't really that much anyways.

I rate them like a separate series. I used to against it but then I see imdb separates Iron Man 1, 2 and 3

I rate all individual seasons of an anime based on their own merit.

I think every season has its individual values and shouldn't be based off its predecessors...

Some sequels are far better than the original, others are worse or equally as good... I rate every series based on what it had to offer on its own...

Why would you not rate them separately? It's not like the sequel might suck, even though you liked the first season, right?

I just rate them based on how I feel about them like any other entry. Crazy, right?
I probably regret this post by now.

I try to rate them individually but if the first season was just so good and the second one has a ton of bad episodes then whoop down the rating goes.
Especially if it's worse than other shows airing around the same time.

I rate them separately and if I didn't see too much of a big change (a season being worst or better than the other) I just give it the same score as the original.

I've been disappointed by too many second seasons to know that I should give them individual scores.

Separately. The production team, the animation team, the direction and so much can change between each seasons.

Like separate shows. Sometimes the other installments in the franchise are better or worse in quality and I think the score should reflect this.
