It depends on the genre and purpose. If its something light hearted and/or I want to play it in the background then typically I go for dubs. Otherwise, subs. Unless the subs are god awful then I go back to a dub if available.

I mainly prefer subs but I'll watch the dub of a show if it's very good or exceptional.

Surprised at how many people are 100% sub tbh.

I prefer subs but I grew up watching anime in my own language so there are a few that i prefer to watch dubbed because of that, maybe it's only because of the nostalgia factor.... but overall subs is better, i think in japan the voice actors/actresses get more into character and give a better 'performance'.

Both. One is just as good as the other, there is not need to choose. For efficiency's sake, dubs when available, since they offer faster completion times.

Actually, I like both equally. If an anime I want to watch has some of my favourite English VAs in it, I'll watch it in dub, and vice versa. I mean, there's really no reason to hate on dubs, not all of them are bad.

or do you think it makes you less of an otaku to watch anime in english lololol

I prefer watching my anime in sub, but for some reason, I like to watch anime movies in dub (probably because the anime movies I like to watch, I find them in dub, but not sub) But overall, I would say I prefer to watch my anime in sub.

there are dubs that are sometimes even better than the japanese versions (bnha, dbz, death note) and there are some dubs that make me want to fucking die (tokyo ghoul, nge, attack on titan) so idk
Boku no Hero Academia and Death Note must be seen with subs lmao.

Dubs, I immensely enjoy when I can hear the tonality change in a persons voice like an example would be Trigun. Of course, the subs are the same way, but a person screaming in Japanese mumbo jumbo with the meaning on the bottom doesn't feel the same (I didn't mean mumbo jumbo in a bad way, its just a way of expression)

I really enjoy the English Dubs lately. It makes me focus on whatever is on screen compared to when our eyes switch back and forth at the bottom of the screen (to read the sub) and at the center.

At one point in time, I am also a Sub-only guy, berating people who like dubs. But as I grew older, my attitude towards dubs have toned down. At this point, I watch Dubs more than Subs every season starting this year.

Bottomline, if there's a dub, I will prefer watching it. If there's none, then I will watch the Eng subs.

Japanese original is always the best

Dubs are OK for me...more comfortable to watch the anime and you can be more focused on the animation and the details

But German Dubs are usually aweful

Have you ever seen DBZ or One piece in German? You'll get a headache ^_^°

Neither. I shut off all sound, minimize the window and watch generic porn while the episode plays out. The best way to watch anime. I guarantee that everything you finish will be so enjoyable you'll just keep giving 10/10 everywhere.

It really depends with me. I started out watching dub, but lately I watch a lot more sub than dub (mainly because that's what my boyfriend watches). 9 times out of 10, I believe that subbed is better than dubbed, but there's still that 1% of anime that's just as good dubbed as it is subbed.

Depends. I am not one of those people who think that Japanese voice acting is always the absolute best, since I find it quite over the top and unnatural at times. But there have been anime where English voice actors underact which is a bummer. So, both dubbing industries have pros and cons for me, but I have a weak spot for dubs because, when done right, they sound more soothing and natural to me. Shouting, breathing and groaning all the time doesn't mean passionate necessarily imo, and that's what bothers me sometimes with Japanese dubs. But many Japanese voice actors surely have lungs for days and they can sound very pure, especially female dubbers. So it's definitely a tie for me.

Subs. I have yet to see a dub that could compare to the original.

The only dub I can think of that is on-par with its sub is Cowboy Bebop, but other than that I think subs are definitely better.

I prefer subtitles but I will occasionally watch an English dub. The problem with English dubs is that it's rare to find voice actors/actresses who beat out (or can even compare with) the original Japanese voices. On top of that, I just love the Japanese language.

Always prefer a GOOD English dub. But I can watch with subs with no problem. It can just suck at times that you can't take your eyes off the screen or you may miss what was said. Or if the characters are speaking very rapidly and the subs blink across the screen quickly to keep up then I'm having to rewind to read what I didn't see. It can be annoying as hell.

Subs because I find Japanese voice actors to have a better flow with anime than Americans. Americans often need to speed up a little past their natural speed because the Japanese naturally speed pretty fast and of course anime is more suited for Japanese voice acting. I'll never pick dubs in any medium though because in live action the mouth movements not locking in with the sound often bothers me.

Subs by a landslide.

If only dubbed voice actors didn't act like they were in a cartoon and sounded more mature.

It depends. When the dub isn't straight up terrible(which is rare these days), it can depend on the series. Believe it or not, subs are not the best way to watch anime(shocking I know). Dubs can offer different interpretations of characters than subbed, and can re contextualize them for a different audience. This is why I prefer Boku no Hero Academia, Yu Yu Hakusho, and ghost stories dubbed, but something like Bakemonogatari(if it had a dub) will always be watched subbed. Anyone that prefers one over the other based on inherent superiority is narrow minded.

I prefere subs because I really enjoy the sound of the japanese language. Nevertheless I really loved the dubbed version of CLANNAD and all the studio ghibli films.
However I think the only anime I watch with dubs these days are the ghibli films.
subs>dubs at least for me

subs

there is no actual reason to watch dubs except if the anime is not that good and the dub manages to make it funny/watchable or you used to watch it as a kid and you've grown accustomed to the dubbed version
I should have known it.
The rest of the world doesn't exist.

Dubs all the way. For me it is much easier to watch dubs so you can see what is basically happening. When people watch subs, they're multi-tasking (reading and watching). It's just painful for me to do it all the time. However, there is one dub that I didn't like at all. No Game No Life's dub made me feel like I wanted to watch it subbed. But I didn't switch because I wanted to know how bad it was. I prefer watching dubs. Well, unless it's never dubbed like Konosuba (which surprisingly enough made it to my favorites), ReZero, Bakemonogatari and Nichijou.
