It's really really amazing!!! Glad that the character designs are the same and recolored. The mech looks totally brutal now!!! Hope they keep some comedy episodes :)

EDIT: Watched the full length of that pv. I am now having darn good feeling about this. 3-cour if possible, please...

Would 26 episodes be enough to cover Volumes 7-12?

Wow, I was worried it wouldn't live up to 2005 Kyoto Ani, but I guess there isn't too big of a difference!

Nevermind. Read on some tumblr posts that they announced it to be 2 cour (24-26 episodes) with the each of the 6 novels getting 4 episodes approx (which is normal). They're cutting out filler to make the pacing better too.

It's just a very little snippet, so I am not sure it represents the anime. But from that, there's nothing different than the previous FMP anime by KyoAni, which is a good sign.

Holy shit it looks identical to second raid, 2d animated mechs and all. I am very impressed and pretty happy xebec got a hold of this. I was getting worried after the multiple delays but I am hoping it means the production is very polished and potentially a long adaption. 2-cour would be great but man I'd adore if this got the mythical 3-cour. I don't know how much of the manga is left to adapt though so maybe 2-cour is enough.

Jizzy as you would call yourself because youre a dick The most butthurt award goes to you And clearly you havent watched that many shows thats why you cant determine if a show is unique or not Or maybe you're just a child who likes common stuffs where hero saves the day and guys gets all the girls. Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

Love how they stuck with the original artstyle but made it even better. Got a sweet nostalgia rush seeing Sousuke again.

I can't imagine how the adaptation will go after some 11 years or so have passed... plus the studio changed again lol

Though this did remind me to read the manga/novel. So that's good.

The only thing that worries me is the use of CG robots. The characters look REALLY good and well-animated, as well as faithful to the original series, but what little they shown of the CG mechas looks really clunky.

the CG mecha trend has always been a sort of "red flag" when it appears for me because, while there are good examples, it's really easy for it to fall into the cheap territories, even in high-quality series.

Of course, I'd love to be proven wrong, I wish all the best for this series.

except cgi is more expensive

Reason y cgi mechs is even a thing is cuz the industry lacks talent to draw mechs in 2d. No one is really training them. And the majoriry of vet mecha designers moved on to video games

what's the difference between drawing anything else and mechs?

To put it simply, people, animals, mechas etc move differently. Like, you wouldn't compare Arm Slave from FMP to an actual human or a horse in terms of movement, right? Also, bigger objects are harder to animate in general.
Not changing this signature until P.A. Works announces 2nd season of Shirobako.

that sounds like it would just take more time to do, not that they couldn't do it.

well thats half true except for the fact that because a ton of animators aren't trained to draw mecha they wouldnt know how to regardless of how long it took. and if they decided to actually train them good luck every getting mecha anime. this is why a few studios actually do 2D mecha anime.
