At least we saw that Luffy had the power to rescue Ace but wasn't good enough to fully save him (if he actually dies). I could see that this motivates him way more than if he was executed from the platform because Ace is right next to him. |

If Ace would end up dying from this, I could imagine Luffy totally blaming himself for it. Ace gave up his life protecting him. Of course, its all hypothetical at the moment because we don't know what the outcome really is, but if the Vivre card is any indication, I could imagine that there might be some kind of lasting damage done. But man, that last 2-page spread was pretty damn awesome. The look on Luffy's face was amazing. He couldn't move and was pretty much completely helpless in the face of Akainu's attack. I wonder if Ace's sacrifice is going to set Luffy completely over the edge (kind of like when Gohan turned SSJ2 during the Cell saga). But even if, Luffy should not be in any condition to actually do anything. But you have to admit, Akainu's words definitely hit the nail right on the coffin. All things considered, Whitebeard's reign "on top," so to speak was a failure by those accounts. Interesting way to look at things. |

| Well he's definitely dead, after we were shown that lava harm ace and seeing that vivre card vanish into thin air the only conclusion is that ace is no more, After the incident where luffy couldnt protect his nakama and now this, I believe some sort of hidden rage pent up inside him will reveal itself, luffy gave everything he had to save his brother going as far as clashing with his grandfather who he feared most out of anyone and now all has gone to waste, all that effort and hardship he went through has been for nought. I think we will see a new side to luffy, the once happy fun loving personality will change into hatred and revenge, I think in this moment he would kill anyone who stood in his way for absolute vengeance even his nakama. I believe its going to be a mix of haki ( kings dispostion) and new unseen powers that will release with his rage. I do believe that this will help to move the storyline and allow luffy to grow and develop into a stronger character for better or worse and even though many may not like it, I still believe it was the right choice. |

| There's no way a character like Ace's going to die. It could be that there's still some tragedy in store if Whitebeard were to die thinking that Ace is dead, but I guess having someone die with so much regret would also be too much for this manga. It's times like these when Oda's policy of never killing off anyone important wastes a lot of potential tension. |

Although I think it's unlikely, I wouldn't mind seeing this and would welcome Luffy in a state of rage. It would definitely be interesting after seeing how Luffy has evolved to this point. As for my opinion on the matter, I think this arc feels like a waste. Luffy goes to save Ace, and finally does and Ace sacrifices himself. I would have preferred Luffy to have been to late in saving Ace than having Ace die after being saved. It felt to fake having Ace just stand their stupidly instead of trying to escape. We'll see what happens, I don't think Ace's vivre card completely vanished. I think there's a very small piece left, but we'll see. :) |
| Shocking chapter... Luffy's reaction was heartwrenching. It's a shame that Ace might die given all the sacrifices that were made to save him. Although I don't see him surviving that wound, anything can happen, this is OP after all. |

| What?! NO!!! That just can't happen. You can't go about saving someone, and then have them die at the end nonetheless. That doesn't just make it pointless, that robs everyone who's been sitting at the edge of their seat, biting their nails, over this whole thing. |

| One thing I think people are forgetting. Okama Queen (forget her/his name) is there. If anyone can heal Ace it would be her. So assuming Ace makes out of this alive, they'll have to pick him up quickly and start their escape so Okama Queen can start doing her healing. I assume an injection of hormones would help slow the death while they make their escape before Ace gets healed. |

| The way I see it this can play out 2 ways. 1 Ace survives thanks to the combined efforts of guys like Whitebeard and Ivankov. Whitebeard dies and this arc ends pretty predictable (but still awesome) Ace didn't smile before his "death" meaning he has a chance to survive. 2 Ace dies, this would be a total curve ball. Ace dying in the end does NOT make this arc pointless. It has provided us with a lot of entertainment. Whitebeard dies Ace dies and it'll have a huge impact on Luffy and the rest of the world. How can you call something like that pointless?!? Really now. It means the good guys failed in the end, something you don't often see in shounen series. But it'll be refreshing and interesting to see how that plays out. |

Even though a great character like Ace dying will be sad but if he really does die, I want to see what kind of reaction Luffy would have, what kind of effect, what kind of new power! etc. I am so desperately looking forward to the next chapter. |

| I gotta admit, I didn't see Ace getting away unharmed so easily. I was pretty much awaiting something shocking. BUT WHY MUST WE BE TORTURED!!!! ACE CAN'T DIE, noooooooo!!!! When that Lava-asshole said "Pirate King Gol. D Roger. Revolutionary Dragon!! Their son's actually became brothers, how terrifying..." I felt the EPICness, Ace is NOT allowed to die.
