I'm still somewhat young enough for it to be relatively socially acceptable for me to go door to door asking for candy from strangers, plus I'm a girl so that helps (I'm dressing as Joey Ramone btw and I'll no doubt be the coolest kid on the block) and I think I'll still go this year, but I'm starting to think maybe at some point soon I should put an end to my trick-or-treating phase and start passing out candy with the grown ups, but I'm hesitant because why would anyone voluntarily give up the opportunity to get a sack full of free chocolate that lasts at least a couple months?

So, I thought I'd ask when everyone on MAL quit dressing up and parading around the neighborhood begging for sweets, and at what point it stops being cute and just becomes sad.

Hey, free food especially sweets is a plus in my book so I'll go trick or treating as much as I'd like! Take advantage of that easy free food y'know.

13 is too old for trick or treating. You can get away with it if you're short asf though and wear a mask.

Just do what normal people do and spend money on people so they can try to scare you or buy your own candy.

joey ramone, sounds unique.

uhhh yeah my ex gf and I went last year, and we were probably older than you, so go for it! Besides, free candy is free candy, why wouldn't you go? Oh, and like you said, you're a girl, so that makes it much easier to be under the adults' radar.

edit: i didn't even answer your question! sorry! I think last year was my last time going, I was 17. This year my friends and I are planning to hang out and do some other stuff, so I don't think I'll be doing it again

I stopped in middle school. I think I remember going out and being one of the "older kids" and just thinking ok, it's time to stop.

Now I just get drunk like a good grown up.

1 hour = $8USD = about a kilogram of candy (sometimes even more)

If you think going out for an hour and getting a wimpy bag of candy is a good idea after you're 16 and can already get that much easily then you obviously have a different definition of "free" than I do. I'm sure drugs, alcohol, and friends could make the experience enjoyable, though.

Growing up, I never did any trick-or-treating... :(
and because my house looked from the outside like a block of apartments, not many trick-or-treaters even visited... :/
(the building next to my house was in the same style, but it actually was a block of apartments, which didn't help)

But when they did show up, it was always really cool to see their costumes.
That's regardless of age, even though lots of them were older teenagers, or mixed-age groups that included adults.

So just keep doing it for as long as you want.
And if you start feeling old, find a younger sibling or a cousin or something, lol.

I think the last year I went was either my first or second year of highschool (though prior to this I hadn't gone in a few years). A group of buddies and I dressed up as large shipping boxes, imaginative as we were. It was a fun last run of tricks-or-treats.

We don't practice Halloween culture (well, tricking or treating) in most of Asia so I wouldn't really know.

Though it would be really fun though.I think maybe it depends on the community? If older people are doing it, and in a group I don't think it could be any weird?

You're not too old until you're dead. And even then you can go as a ghost.

If you're worried about looking silly, take a younger sibling or cousin or friend's kid or whatever and make sure the kid is in on your lil plan, and gets visibly upset whenever you're being "left out" (not given sweets). Keeps you looking mature and responsible ("making sure the child is safe! what a sweet young person!") and gets your free shit. 10/10 would scam again.

I don't think there is a definitive age. Just depends on the person.
I stopped around 14 or so, thats when I started going to Halloween parties.
Now I rarely celebrate it.

Sorry, but I'm not going to let go of my childhood that easily.

I'm going to say 16-17. I think it depends how tall you are and if you can pull off not looking old. I mean, there are 12-year-olds in my school who look 6.

You don't go straight from the "trick or treat" phase to the "hand out candy" phase. There's an important phase in between when you go to parties and have drunk sex in costume.

We don't really practice Halloween in my country, but we do have a similar holiday. (It's Halloween but without dressing up).

Most people stop attending that holiday when they're about 11, I suppose it would be similar for Halloween?

Heh, long as you can pull it off keep going! I kept trick or treating up till I was 18, and even now being 25 I could probably still get away with it given my tiny stature and constantly being mistaken for a teen. :P

Whenever you feel like it.

If you turn away teenagers who come to your door you're a dick, they could be at a Halloween rave doing crazy amounts of drugs and they choose an innocent thing to do one day a year: dress up and get candy.

About the age of 4 years old is way too old. If you go trick-or-treating and you're 7 then you don't deserve to have candy. Trick-or-treating is for children not preteens.

I never actually 'trick or treated', Though we have a similar celebration with a weird name to write in English called "Ghergaoun". Pretty much go around your neighborhood, with cultural clothing as opposed to role playing and sing your way to candy heaven. I stopped around 12 years old, mainly because it was too hot outside to bother.

I've heard too many stories of special needs adults being harassed for trick or treating and it makes me sad. Just let people have fun mang

I don't think halloween is really about the candy anyway, it's more about the experience. Who would ever think trick-or-treating alone would be a good idea?
