So the characters are supposed to have lackluster personalities? Weird, that's not the impression I got when I read the LNs

Are you people serious about fate zero? I haven't seen the dub but how does one even go about getting people to voice the like of saber, kiritsugu, and ESPECIALLY kirei in english?
To be fair, Kari Wahlgren and Crispin Freeman are actually one of the few (IMO) really good American anime dubbers out there so I can see why some people might prefer the dub

Though Freeman's Engrish isn't as good as Jouji Nakata's, that's for sure

If it's Funimation then it won't be bad at the very least.
Though my personal favourite dubs are
Date A Live
Brynhildr In The Darkness
A Certain Railgun/Index
Is This a Zombie?

I prefer the code geass dub over the sub, Lelouch' voice somehow just sound way more awesome in English. The FMA:Brotherhood & Death Note dubs are also really good

Dragon Ball Z and Steins;Gate have awesome English dubs and would even prefer them over the Japanese.

Fairy Tail's English dub is quite all right. Not really fond of all of the English voices, but there are a few pretty good ones (my favourite's probably Carla's).

Listing good dubs would result in a list that is entirely too long, so I'm going to limit myself to dubs that actively improved the shows they were reversioning:

- BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad. Not only is the voice cast stellar, but the music--rerecorded from scratch--vastly overshadows the original versions.

- Cowboy Bebop. Come on, now, this is an obvious one.

- Fruits Basket. Laura Bailey's Tohru and Eric Vale's Yuki fuckin' changed my life, man. John Burgmeier's Shigure is fun as hell, too. No, I don't care that they mispronounce names and obfuscate the names of Japanese food--the performances are fucking God Tier and I will hear no word to the contrary.

- Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate. Crispin Freeman is Our Lord and Savior. Bow before him.

- Golden Boy. Enough said.

- The Big O. Nobody can pull off Roger Smith like Steve Blum. He takes a super-cool show and makes it 150% cooler.

- Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. REPENT, MOTHERFUCKERS!!

- Berserk. Roughly 15% of my enjoyment of this series comes with the English dub outtakes. THE RAIN MAY NEVER FALL 'TIL AFTER SUNDOWN~ (SUNDOWN~)

Dubs have been improving a lot as of late. The dubs for Grimgar, Dagashi Kashi, and Dimension W are fantastic. Not to mention the currently airing Hunter x Hunter 2011 dub.

I dislike dubs on principle, so I never watch them. But I do know of some which are of high quality.

Cowboy Bebop, Bacanno, Ghost Hunt (joke dub, but very fuuny), Hellsing, Samurai Champloo, Big O, DBZ.

Mostly shows that were made with a western audience in mind tend to have better dubs. With exception.

There are some pretty good dubs I've watched

-FMA 2003 (Did not watch Brotherhood in dub, but has similar voice actors)
-Trigun
-Soul Eater
-Baccano! (Didn't watch it in dub but heard it was good)
-Romeo X Juliet (Moments where lines are spoken in Shakespearean English impressed me)
-Sakigake!! Cromartie Koukou
-Is this a Zombie?
-Death Note

In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth. But the world isn't perfect, and the law is incomplete..." -Alphonse Elric

"Then and now, what I protect has never changed!" -Sakata Gintoki

I'll take anything like The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. Anything as good as that.

It's a good dub, probably about equal to the sub. My list was about dubs that went beyond that, though. ;)

I dislike most dubs, but in case of Panty & Stocking the dub actually adds a lot, especially since this show is so heavily inspired by western content - it just fits quite a bit better than the original.

I also liked the one in Toradora, but that comes with a GIANT disclaimer: it should only be experienced on your second viewing, because it completely changes the way Taiga speaks (quite a big deal in her case).

I haven't seen an anime with a good dub since Psycho-Pass (and I don't care if I never see that show again).

Pretty much everybody agrees that Yu Yu Hakusho and Cowboy Bebop have great English dubs. Despite InuYasha having a lot of flaws as a show, the Ocean Dub is fantastic. I enjoy the Funimation Dubs on Dragon Ball and Z, and I enjoy the early Ocean Dub of Z. G Gundam has an excellent and fun English dub. And my buddy Eric Stuart helped contribute a lot of charm to the English dubs of Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh.

There are some very good English Dubs out there and some very talented voice actors doing excellent work. There are shows where I may have my preference (Naruto), but I know a couple of the guys who do work on the English version and they do an excellent job. Naruto just happens to have one of the best Japanese voice casts ever, so even though the English version is great it's hard to compete with the brilliance of the original.

That's kind of a shame. I do appreciate a good dub when I hear one, and I think they're a good way to introduce new viewers to the medium.

From what I've heard, the overall quality of dubs is improving. Most are at least...passable nowadays, but the truly outstanding ones are still too few. So I don't go out of my way for a dub unless I know it's definitely worth it.

So many people post DBZ, but I feel like DBZ never got a good English dub until Kai. The old DBZ English dub is hard for me to sit through since the voice acting and changes from the Japanese version from the early days from Funimation is awful. You had characters going to the “The Next Dimension”, Hell being change to HIFL, Dr. Gero being the leader of the RR Army, Bardock was a “Brilliant Scientist” and Freeza's awful old lady voice. They took away with the awesome Japanese music and created really bad cheesy dialogue in my opinion.

I don't get how people hate the Digimon Season 1 & 2 dub when the DBZ dub from that time period was just as inaccurate if you ask me.

Since the main Subs v Dubs thread seems to be dormant for the moment I'll give my final opinion on the matter, since I never bothered before.

I have 6 shows I would watched dubbed in English if I were to watch them again:

Cowboy Bebop
FMA
Baccano
Ghost Stories
Spice & Wolf
Steins;Gate (they better fucking get that cast back for S;G0)

That's it. The rest are either crap, inferior to the original dub, I haven't heard them, or they're for shows I never want to see anyway.
