Yep. I have an Xbox crew I've known for a while now (a year or more, one of them for 3 years), and we all want to go to PAX one year

All the time, mainly due to gaming. I actually just met three of my xbox friends in person for a wedding this week.

Sometimes. Some online people make me weary, but I am usually a lot more trusting if they can prove they are the age and gender they say they are with skype.

10 years ago I made quite a lot of good friends on a forum I regularly posted on. I also made some good friends, back when I played RuneScape. But I think it's already been 5 years ago or so since I've last made a good friend online.
I guess I just kind of stopped trying to be friends with people on the internet at some point. I did like the friendships I've had in the past, but I'm fine being foreveralone when I'm online now.

Not very often ...
I mean - I talk to people and get to know them to some point, but I have my reservations ( like giving my phone number or personal dates ) because you never really know what they're up to.
Also - I try not to get attached because I don't know how long they'll stay, and I don't want to get my hopes up for nothing ^^.

I have a select group of 4-5 people who I would consider true friends I have met from online thru games and other means. We talk pretty much every day. No-one from MAL, nor did I even meet them thru means of Anime, yet we all watch it now. I've known these people for about 3-4 years now. Sucks that I live in Western Canada and they live in Eastern America.

Despite the amount of time I spend on the net, almost never. If I do make one, they tend to drift away and never talk to me again so I've never had a true friend I've met online. But that's been life for me since 2005, so I'm used to it.

I used to make new friends online everyday, now I don't wanna have anything to do with anyone tbh. It's a true pain to keep up with someone who's gonna leave sooner or later anyways so what's the point?

But it's not to say there isn't some plausibility in it. I know people who have met online. And have been extremely happy. I also know some people who have met people online, and it was god awful for them.

It's just another social platform after all. Much like another form of the bar scene. People you may know and don't know congregating together.

i was actually generalizing here, meaning u should look for alternatives to any sort of online relationship be it friends or gf/bf.
now as to why im saying this, because its EXCEEDINGLY hard to establish a link between people onlin, no facial expressions, no verbal exchange , nothing but text .... cant really build much on that and if u ever do decide to go down that road, then gd luck, because it sure as hell aint gonna be easy.
there is a limit to what u can establish with onlin text .... and its very small compared to wat IRL interaction can achieve , sadly ...

There are a lot of ways to establish facial expression or verbal exchange. The internet is a lot bigger than just IM and forums, lol... Do people not use Skype or other methods of voice-chat?

You also make it sound like you're making one choice or the other. I'm pretty sure if I choose to have online friends that my IRL friends are not going to disappear. I can have both.

I would rather not have "rear friends" thanks.

But seriously, I do make a few "friends" online every year or so. They usually fade away in a few months though. It's difficult to keep up online friendships if your interests keep changing.

I used to have a lot, but eventually I found less time for them and they for me.

It's pretty sad. I miss those days. I hope to meet people on the internet. It's why I got back on message boards. I'm better at writing than speaking, so I enjoy these relationships more. Besides, message boards let me find people who are into the same stuff I'm into.

I do meet new online friends like once a year, it's much fun especially in the beginning cause you don't know each other and all that. But after a while you just ran out of subject since you don't see each other in RL and eventually the conversations just stop.

I've heard of people making life long friends purely over the internet. I wonder what their secret is?

Very often, up until a few years ago. I don't really use social media now and I don't go out of my way to private message people or anything like that. I'm not opposed to it, but I don't seek out attention or friendship online like I used to. People are less inhibited online so it's easy to get close and find others you have things in common with - but people also aren't honest. Not to say everyone on the internet is lying, but you have a lot more control over how you present yourself and your personality. I think people project a more ideal version of themselves on the internet and are prone to exaggeration - this can cause problems when dealing with close relationships.

Well, mayby they haven't find their best friend in RL yet what makes it easier to grow attached to people online. Being part of the same fandom can also help, a lot
