I am going there next week...

People say it's best to stream stuff, but quality is rarely okay.

In Germany, is downloading anything extremely dangerous?

- Please, just honest answers; don't spam with something that won't be of any help.

A friend of mine had to pay a fine for torrenting "The Walking Dead" once, but usually nothing happens. But I rarely use torrents anyway so... ._.

It is extremely dangerous to download with torrent, unless you can hide your ip etc.
DC++ and similar hubs work perfectly fine.
However, for me, streaming is the best. There is a lot of HD content available and I never had problems finding anything. Not to mention you save space in your hdd.
If you're a gamer and wanna dl games etc. then i'm sry but i cant offer any solutions. I was never interested so i never had to work out this problem ;)

You shouldn't use torrents in general, but OCH (uploaded, directupload, share-online, megaupload, etc.) are usually fine. Even if somebody had valid reasons to assume you broke the law, until they actually got the permission to check the hoster's log files or ask them for your IP, the information will most likely be deleted, anyway. I'd say the risk of getting caught for downloading via OCH is almost non-existent, I've been doing it for years and I know several of my friends do it as well, nobody ever ran into trouble.

if you torrent American TV series, or movies, you are playing with fire. Streaming is pretty save, but its harder to find HD-content that way. Torrenting anime is save too.

Torrent dude. Don't let them scare you. They get one in a million but because the whole thing gets published they make it seem like everyone gets caught or something. It's just scary tactics really.
In the end if everyone ignores them they can't do anything. They only succeed if people actually get scared of them.

Those services are bullshit cause they can be easily closed down as it has been shown recently by how many they went down. Only threw torrents you will have things available.

Uploaded and Share Online have been around for years, I doubt that they'll suddenly shut down their servers. You're right when it comes to convenience, finding the desired files can be quite annoying since they're often removed, but there are plenty of sources out there which you can check. I wouldn't advise anyone to use torrents, that's basically asking to get sued.

Torrenting is illegal almost everywhere. You won't get caught though, that's one in a million and it usually happens to people they suspect are selling.

Aside from general Risks with Torrenting (in which you need to trust your Sources that they don't share Malware as well), it's basically what cabacc2 said. Anime and other exotic Stuff should be relatively safe, especially when there is no official German Release. Nullo actore, nullus iudex or if there's no Plaintiff, there is no Judge.

If you plan on moving, don't choose Kabel Deutschland unless you would be left out with a Village Connection of 2000kbitps or less. There seem to be many complaints with the ISP about slow Speeds especially in the Evening hours (just like the other Cable Internet Providers, but not so much for them), you would have a constant IP instead of a changing one (which might not only make it easier to track you down, but also make Downloading from Hosters with Restrictions harder, unless you're using a VPN Service), and the most important Aspect: they'll slow down P2P and OCH for the Day after you've reached a certain Amount of Traffic, though I don't know whether you'd have to have 10GB (stating in the Contract) or 60GB (stating according to the ISP) of Traffic only from Torrenting/DL from File Hosters or whether the whole Traffic is included, which would also include (legal) Streaming and Downloading from legal Portals.

Else, O2 has a Cap when you hit over 300GB 3 Months in a Row for the next Month and Lines operated by the Deutsche Telekom might have a much slower Streaming Speed for Video Platforms such as Youtube.

This and for additional information you are not "diffusing" copyrighted material by downloading from a OCH. Most cases where lawyers did send their pricey warning letter stated especially the fact that you were guilty of diffusing these files. They focus more on finding the uploaders.

There are ways through which you can download torrents in Germany. You need to get a vpn and it will change your location and hide your activities. Currently I use PureVPN.

There are many Torrent VPN available in the market you can check them out in the link.

To do that, you will need a VPN service to hide your IP address and your location. I personally recommend IPVanish for Germany. Here is a review to the service: https://anonymweb.de/ipvanish-vpn-im-test/

For torrent: Downloading music/western movives is really dangerous. Same for software. Also anime which are licensed in the west (especially in Germany).

I never had problems while only downloading the airing stuff - for anime - at the time it aired for the last few years. But please never try do use torrent for a US movie, video game or music. (Or other western stuff - not only from the US. Especially porn industrie have tons of money to hire lawysers.)

For that stuff XDCC (over IRC - which is a form of direct download and still fast without having to buy premium accounts which usually are needed if you download from file hosters and want unlimited fast speed.)

But I don't want to give too much/detailed hints. Don't know if too much talking about it is allowed here. (Well technically it should be okay as there is no direct link to illegal material and torrents and downloads from filehosters or via XDCC can also be used for legal things - like downloading Linux.)

Edit: Lol. Just noticed that thread is pretty old and someone with only 1 posts bumped it. I should have looked at the whole thread first before posting. :D

Hi, I've actually just received and email by a layer for illegal downloading of an episode of "Lucifer" for a 600 euros. From what I understood actually the illegal part is not the download but the upload part, is that correct?

Torrenting is illegal in Germany, because of that I recommend you to use a VPN service to be untraceable. Use this one "Private Internet Access". It works for me. Here is there features: https://anonymweb.de/private-internet-access-vpn-im-test/

Downloads are almost impossible to persecute in germany. Uploads, however, are very easy to monitor and you can get fined by the rights holders. This is not a small danger, it has happened to my friend. There are, of course, ways to obfuscate your tracks. Read this helpful guide:

If you use it frequently, you are at fairly high risk at getting caught, if you do it like once in a month or any less they shouldn't find you tho, german internet security is more focused on arms dealing and child pornography

You don't use torrents in general, but OCHs uploaded, direct upload, site switching, megaplots, etc. are generally better. Even if you have good reason to believe that someone has broken the law until you get permission to check your host log files or examine your IP, the information will still be deleted. I think the risk of getting caught downloading OCH is almost non-existent, I've been doing it for many years and I know many of my friends do it, no one has ever got in trouble.

Sometimes this tool not work or you faced punishment as per German law Such downloads can results in huge fines to jail terms. Watching a movie on the Internet or downloading a song is often prohibited. so need a perfect tool to do this without any failure...

You're far more likely to get prosecuted in America, the EU isn't really that sue crazy. They rather take down websites than go after individuals using them.
