I pretty much guessed the husband would be gone, but only one town over? In the US they'd be state hopping.

I guess it all sort of worked out though, since they do seem to be happy.

Very good episode, rather sad too (at least to me).
The short memory part kind of reminded me of ef - a tale of memories =P

It didn't remind me though. But I was shocked when the snake-like-shadow escaped from the Mom's head. I was really frightened in that scene. I'm surprised! LOL! XD

It is already 1AM here, and it is silent. And nothing to be seen but the light coming from the CRT screen. It creeps out of me! LOL!

Maybe, I can still watch another one episode. Although it's already late! 1:34AM in my clock now.

As she told, that the husband is gone for some time i kinda expected exactly what we've seen here...another family...it's kinda sad...although his wife can't remember now, what they have seen...maybe it's better not to know how he betrayed her like that...
(only the kid knows now..hmz)
...
Is it strange, if you sometimes want a Kagedama too? It could eat all the bad memories...hum ._.

btw this "just one more episode" thing is really annoying sometimes xp it's 3:00 AM and i still want to watch more...lol

Great episode, I liked the emotional rollercoaster. The memory loss reminded me of 50 first dates. That movie was infinitely more sad than funny to me.

Let me be the first to say that I would love to beat s%*@ out of the husband/father of that family. That's wretched and horrible to think that someone would up and leave their family to start another and live a different life. Just heinous and inconceivable. Sad, but great episode. Great narrative.

Well, seeing how the last ep was a pretty happy one, they made up for it in this ep. This may have been the saddest one yet, I was on the verge of tears. That's gotta be one of the worst Mushi yet. It got to so hard probably because me and my family are very familiar with alzheimers, so it effected me quite a bit because I can understand how painful it is to have someone you care about be forgetting things all the time.

Quite the sad episode. I don't understand though, why simply leaving during the daylight didn't get rid of the mushi. How would it follow them?

I guess it is inside of the head. Maybe it reproduce, feed and live inside your head, just like some parasites we know. And then, some of the mushi goes out, to the world, to continue on living. But the colony is still inside your head. That's my theory :3

I was hoping a year later Ginko would have learned a solution for that mushi in that year :( .

Maybe Father has got the same mushi, and he forgot about his previous family? (So they were not much important to him, anyway)

Hmmm no, I don't think the father had the same Mushi, well, no if he's the loyal kind who thinks about his family all the time.

It's fun how I seem to like the last few episodes, while I don't think much about the previous ones. Hmm hmm, one thing I'm hoping though, is that they spend more effort in distinguishing each character no matter how brief they appear in each episode. But they didn't.

Ah well. But I should go to the 'Ginko's Age' thread now, I suppose. The long intervals in episodes begin to bother me.

i haven't finished the series, but up until now they never said this is chronological. For all we know the entire series could be in a 4-5 year span, where inbetween each episode/span of time he is doing the other things. Each episode simply deals with a particular story, but we have no idea what else is happening. He might have been in the mountains sleeping for 6 months between the time he left the kid and his mom and came back to find out what happened, for all we know.

Well, that's kinda sad yet great ending there.

Contradictory to what Ginko said that the Mushi avoids eating your everyday memories,

the woman forgot her husband which is one of those precious memories she had.

It must be due to her anger and wanting to forget what she saw so the time the mushi

left her head, she forgot everything what happened including her husband.

But then again, the last scene shows how great human emotions are because it overrides memories =)

A really melancholic episode. I like the fact that not every episode has a happy ending though, it seems more realistic and kind of refreshing that way.

It’s quite a bitter fate, knowing that you’ll slowly lose your memories as simple and meaningless or important and precious as they are.

I’d thought she would be able to get rid of the disease and be cured, at least to minimize the effect, but it isn’t that easy. Not even Ginko could do anything.

My heart broke when Sayo fell asleep for many days, only to wake up with the memories about her husband completely forgotten. As painful as they were, even if it’s better that way for her, to “forgive and forget” involuntarily, Kaji still had to deal with the grievous reminder.
I think, then procrastinate.
Therefore, I am.

I don't think that would be strange. In this episode, forgetting about the father seemed almost made the mushi seem benevolent, in a way. I'm not sure remembering would have been particularly pleasant... Arguably, though, all memories have places in our lives...

Too bad Ginko couldn't do much for them. D:

Almost at the beginning of the episode is was of the impression that the father died and that the mother didn't had the courage to tell his son. After that the mushi appeard in her head and she forgot about it. Turns out the heartless baster was having a new live with a new family. (so sad)

"Ignorance is bliss" fits perfectly for the mother in the case of her husband. I really feel sorry for her son who has to worry about her on a daily basis. Especially since there's a possibility that his mother may run out of memories and even forget her own son.

What a downer of an ending. Memory loss is a real tough subject since it affects so many people in real life, and to see the way this episode finished was really difficult. It's how she and her son have to live now, and they both seem able to accept and handle it, but it's not how anyone should have to live. One of the best episodes all told, but a sad ending.

Really should have wanted that father's motive.. Such as happens a lot of times in some typical movies it could have just been a misunderstood scenery even if unlikely.
