Yeah... well people like to put others in molds and it sucks :(
I'm still insecure about browsing anime and game websites even though I should be over it.

In elementary and middle schoosl, I used to be an A student, took part in most activities, made many science projects and used to be a good leader. I used to plan and suggest events at school.
During high school, I've become lazy and indifferent. Yeah I blame it on the internet...

Like most people, all A student until high school. Then started slacking off and became an all D student. I was the guy that played the innocent factor and said what's that or I don't get it to sexual jokes to make laughs.

THE MORE YOU KNOW.
srsly though, a good portion of this thread has pretty socially average posts. Dunno what thread you been reading. Anime does seem to have an affinity for attracting less socially oriented people though, and I still can't really figure out why.

Eh I've seen it permiate cliques pretty easily. It just seems to initially only attract less social individuals. I think it was sophomore year, one of my friends happened to get another one watching Full Metal Alchemist on the wrestling team and before long the whole team was watching it, and some even asking him/me/etc. for other good shows. It can get into those social groups, as long as someone is there to introduce it. I just wonder why they never happen to find it in those groups, generally.

It's an interesting observation. From my experience, there's two broad categories of anime fans, those that fit the stereotype and those that don't. I am one of those that don't, but I'm pretty open about my tastes. Whenever I tell people I'm an anime fan their first reaction is usually "I'd have never known", even though I'm not a very socially oriented person. Perhaps a bit ironic, the first person I knew to be an anime fan and who sort of introduced me to the idea that there are people actually spending huge amounts of time on it, was a very sociable person.

College: Pretty social. There aren't really cliques here, minus frats and sororities (some athletics), but most people in them are chill and make up a few of my friends. I don't really have the desire to join one though. Not a heavy drinker/party person. I owe some of this to my early fucking classes.

High School: I knew pretty much everyone and hung out with a varying group of people. Soccer, music, and skating made it pretty easy to do w/e. I didn't have a specific social circle.

I do enjoy being a shut-in sometimes though.

When I was in high school, my main crew was the anime nerds, but as I approached 12th grade, there was only me and my friend left (who were die-hard fans, at least, and also the reason I'm on forums like these). Towards the end of my HS life, I started hanging with the smart but cool kids who took all those unecessary AP classes.

I was social at school but I didn't really hang around with much of them at after school. I had plenty of different hobbies which allowed me to know plenty. Due to me being well rounded I generated friends but only like 2 or 3 of them I actual keep in touch with. Apart from that High School was very boring and uneventful...

I knew people, but I wasn't at all popular since nobody came and talked to me when I was sitting in the corner in the cafeteria reading my manga..XD

never thought of that. last week my roomate and some kid in the other room happened to see some of my anime on my desk, and they were extremely shocked. said they'd never pin someone like me as an anime nerd. it kinda says a great deal about how powerful the stereotypical anime enthusiast is seen, unfortunately..

I was the guy that always had a guitar. I had guitar class and I didn't have a locker for it, so I spent my down time playing it in class (teacher permitting) and during lunch after I ate. I drew crowds some times because I improvised lyrics, it was a lot of fun.

Only my close friends knew I was an anime fan until I started writing songs about certain shows. People would ask me what it was about and I'd say "Have you seen The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya? No? It's an anime, its awesome blah blah blah".

I just went to a convention and I didn't have anything to cosplay with, so I just went as is, and people were asking me if I was watching a little brother or something. I had to tell them I was there for myself, haha.

My social status changes quite a bit, now that I think about it...

I used to hang out with the preps/bitches a lot when I was younger. But then I found a new group that was really fun to hang out with, but weren't popular, in the least. I went with them for about a year until I found a new friend which lead me into a whole new variety of prep. The 'wannabe preps'. Don't get me wrong, I still love those girls, but I didn't fit in. So, after a year, I went back to my unpopular group. Then we, sadly, went into an... emo stage... ugh. But that was over after about 3/4 of the year.

I've had friends that are popular for a while now, so I'm not a very unpopular person, but I'm not the ideal person most people would want to hang around. So when I went back to my other group, they had picked up the religious fr- girls... >_> (I do love my religious friends. ^_^) I don't believe in God. Most people don't think that would mix very well, but we actually all get along very nicely.

But, ever since anime, I've changed back into the weird freak and became very unsocial. But I never really liked people in the first place... they get annoying after a while. Which is why I have online friends! ^_^ I still have a lot of different groups, but we all tend to get along better than most people would think. (We still have too much drama, though...)

Well, if anyone read to the end of this, I LOVE YOU! =P

btw... This thread inspired me... so tomorrow I'm going to go and ask people how they would describe me... I'll post whatever they say tomorrow probably...

Let me just remind you that when I was anti-social I barely had access to the internet and only watched anime on tv.

It's not that related.

Jolly good answer, here. Even if the topic doesn't encourage any sort of discussion whatsoever, I have to congratulate you on your (total lack of) contribution to this thread. Keep up the good work.

Roughly on topic, I know a 'jock' who watch anime. Guy swims and runs fast as hell, but talk about the epicness of TTGL at times. Generalization makes me sad. But most of the times I laugh instead. ):

In high school, I had formed a way of being known without knowing all the people who knew me.
A lot of that probably had to do with playing the accordion.

As for my social status, I never really thought I had a status that was easy to classify. At least, that's my personal take on it. I was the kind of person who liked to be nice to people without creating much of a close friendship. A lot of acquaintances, but only a handful of friends in comparison.
There is a crack in everything.
That's how the light gets in.

The weird one I guess. I'm used to it.

One time we were talking about our "first impressions" on the first day of class. This girl said to me that her first impression of me was weird. I was just, well, I'm used to the sort of thing. She also told me that I appeared to be unapproachable. Quiet and very quiet. And this other girl said who happens to be a childhood classmate of mine that I AM quiet because I only speak when I want to. And blah, blah, blah...

The quiet one, I suppose. Actually, that just came up in my Chinese class today. Smart, weird, perverted, and loner are some other words that could probably describe me (actually, the words that were used were "pervy old man" but that doesn't really matter)

For some reason, half of the teachers and staff (well, half of the ones who know hwo I am) think I'm sad, depressed, and friendless. It's really starting to get on my nerves. They feel that they have to talk to me all the time (like while I'm reading by myself), and one janitor actually said that sometimes it's tough in school and that I would make friends eventually. I have friends! Just because I'm not constantly with them doesn't mean they don't exist!

you can't really refute the generalization as a fairly accurate statement though. I've met and even helped spawn a few oddball fans myself, but when it comes down to it, it's still true that a majority of fans seem to hold to the stereotypes (to an extent). For example, I can't imagine it'd be much of a stretch to say that fellows one of very few, if not the only one on that team that cares about anime.
Generalizations are generally accurate. That's why when people get offended by them, I'm always a little confused.

Honestly? I'm not even sure.

Most of my friends are the drama/band geeks. xD
But my closest friends are the extremely popular people who (secretly) like anime.

People talk to me, no one has a problem with me, but occasionally a few of my friends would get bullied, here and there.

Most people at my school are, well, the same. No personality. That's why I'm not friends with everyone. I just don't like it when 75% of the people I know add up to form one boring person. :P
