THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

This was so lame it was hilarious. xD

Anyway, this OVA wasn't particularly good if you watch it as a standalone, but it shines if you watch it after Genshiken. It was just so much fun seeing what the main anime source of otakuness was all about, despite having absolutely no idea what the hell is happening (because you jump directly from the first episode to the 21st and 25th).

Score as standalone: 3/10
Score after Genshiken: 7.5/10
Final score: 5/10

I agree that it was lame, but not that it was hilarious D:

I watched the first two eps with my anime club, and they were insanely awesome: crazy dungeons & dragons monsters defeated by garlic breath, nazi commanders commiting suicide with airsoft guns (ROFLROFLROFL) etc, so I am very disappointed that the creators chose to sacrifice lulz on the altar of sappy lameness. Oh well, maybe it all makes sense as you watch it as a part of Genshiken :S

eh, that wasn't really the last episode in-universe. If you liked it you should watch the other Kujibiki Unbalance (which is 13 eps iirc)

I though it was a better episode than the last one, it wasn't hilarious, but we finally found out what was the deal with the characters. (It's important if you're watching it for Genshiken)

It was a parody of the extremely non-sensically dramatic endings of common anime.

Well not a bad ova series it was fun to see the actual series from Genshiken and see the full or at least part full story of it! Was quite a nice watch actually and I'm going to watch the second season!

This episode was absolute top, they managed to do everything right! One simply has to love all the pathos and stereotypes they managed to put in. It was so moving to watch how all pieces fit together. Whoever directed this episode was pure genius!

After Genshiken manga and anime this was great addition to all KujiUn tidbits we got before. Kinda nostalgic. Too bad we wouldn't see the last part but maybe it's better this way. Friendship forever I guess :)

Oh man, what to say about this. As a stand alone I definitely would have hammered this into the ground with a 2 or 3, but it's precisely because it's a counterpart to Genshiken that I can't. This actually turned out to be hilarious, it did a great job parodying many cliches that are even seen today, nearly 9 years later. I even ended up enjoying it a bit more than certain parts of Genshiken to a degree. Episode 1 with its standard introductions, episode 2 with the cliche events and contests, and episode 3 with the friends making up.

This was definitely not made to tell a serious story. Rather, it was here for a good laugh, which I got. I guess to break it down with scores for both seriousness and parody:

Episode 1 - taking it seriously: 2/10, Genshiken: 4/10.
Episode 2 - taking it seriously 3/10, Genshiken: 7/10.
Episode 3 - taking it seriously 2/10, Genshiken: 5/10. Wanted to give it a 6 but I predicted the end the moment they walked away at the start and it got boring waiting for it to piece together.
Overall - 5/10.

Oh and I love the OP/ED, surprisingly catchy.

This was an odd anime. Time to watch the TV series! Some parts were funny and some were, well, boring.

Was good to see some of the gaps filled in between the clips in Genshiken, as well as bits from the manga.

2/10.

Guess I need to watch Genshiken first to appreciate it or something. It's still bad.

Imagine thinking this confusing, jumbled, unfinished (didn't even start really) mess was any good. Thank god they made an actual TV anime out of this, hope that's worth the watch. This was a 3/10.
