There is some subtext where presumably, Tomino doesn't dislike the work personally, just that it's too incoherent and they focused too much on the visuals over the storytelling - so it wasn't adequate for the viewers. Producers and investors want to take those measures. Anime can't just be iyashi-kei ["healing" style] and pretty girls." It's more him pointing out what sort show G Reco was aiming for - and against the crowd - but obviously it wasn't a winner, and for reasons that do come back to Tomino's directing, so he's obviously had to come to terms with that. On a related note - I really hate ANN's habit of dismembering interviews into 'news articles'. |
| G-Reco's setting is great, and the visuals are fantastic. I should download some more eps, there should be a comfortable amount of BD eps that have been released now. The writing is mediocre right now, but if what I've heard of the finale is anything to go by it drops into "awful" territory. |
