I think it's save to say that I shouldn't bother with this adaptation and just get back to watching the one from 1997

And the manga. I don't usually go "read the manga" but Berserk is undeniably at it's best as a manga. The '97 series is great, though and was actually how I got into the series.

It's nice seeing some events from the manga animated, but honestly I rated Big Order higher than I rate this first episode of Berserk and anime rarely improves during a run. They also skipped a shitload of what made the manga so good. My whole life I was against the hype of berserk and read it out of absolute boredom a few months ago. Became a fanboy ever since and finally understood why Berserktards spam all forums with "read the manga it's better". This just doesn't do the story justice.

Even mayoiga had higher animation quality and I generally like CGI, this one's just bad with forced cell shading or something along these lines.

Woooo 18 pages of child whining and rage.

Funny how each anime adaptation gets shitted on and yet every next adaptation is way worse than the previous.

I'm ok with this anime, just like I was with previous 2 attempts. I don't know, maybe I love the story and the atmosphere of Berserk too much to complain about whatever. The music and the atmospere were pretty good. Ofc the CG was a trainwreck, but I think people should be more understanding of significant budget limitations.

What is this, even? A sequel? A reboot? A retelling of the series? What the fuck is this supposed to be?

As far as the CG goes, it kinda had a charm to it.

Comparing Berserk to Game of Thrones is an insult to Berserk.
Life can be cruel and unfair. At worst it can traumatize and cripple you. The desire for wanting things to return to the way they were can cost everything and changes nothing. The best way is to keep moving forward, struggle on.
Anger can be powerful but can only get you so far. Let people into your life even if some of them leave you in time.

Anime producers probably have the mind set that moe shows and the like tend to be more popular so it is then worth the extra time and effort needed to make the CGI look good compared to a mature themed and late night show like Berserk.

Sad but true. :(

it's suppose to be a sequel series. apparently it's going to skip a lot........i mean a lot....from what i keep hearing i dont think i'm ready for the amount of salt if this anime skims it's way all the way to Millenium Falcon arc...and randomly shoves in the slap of falconia because hur hur

so here in this episode they're basically reintroducing the series and then will soon jump into the Dark age arc but skip like half of it?

I'm a huge fan of the Berserk manga which I have been faithfully collecting for over a decade. All 37 volumes sit on a place of honour on my bookshelf. I've come to accept the fact that Miura will probably never finish it because he's come way too far to begin to close the story. I don't even know if he intends too. But that's ok, because it's one magnificent ride.

This anime adaptation is sadly simply not good enough, at least in this first chapter. They're jumping all over the place with the story in order to get lots of characters in the show from the get go.

And the animation is abominable. Why o why cannot Berserk get a Madhouse or Ufo-Table? Hell, give me even Bones, Satelight, Deen.....anyone! Why did this particular studio get to do Berserk? They're a bunch of nobodies. And it showed. The CGI was an awful fit and the art was laughably bad at times.

Sad.

I'll watch all of this because Iove Berserk and

I can't really agree that Berserk is some psudo-eternal series like any of the Big 3 of shonen (One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach), there is a clear setup and narrative happening.

It's gone super slow since Guts and crew have set sail, but, if I had to guess its percentage, I'd put it around 65% or more done.

He does plan to finish it, is what I'm saying.

The same could be said of One Piece.

Adaptation of the Convinction Arc. The preview of Schierke in the beginning was probably just a teaser for a possible sequel.

Hah, what a resume. I haven't even read the manga, nor watched the original anime, only saw the movies and even I was mildly insulted by this episode. Felt like I was watching some PS2 JRPG game at times. Bit confused, thought Berserk was pretty popular, I'm surprised to see some no name studio and such ugly CGI. I can only imagine what true Berserk fans are feeling (well, not hard to imagine after reading this thread lol). Sure hope it improves... a lot.

No idea. Hopefully not too long, I don't want them to ruin the some arcs (if they decide not to skip them.)

well shit the manga's artwork is absolutely phenominal in terms of animation i dont thing i could honestly expect an anime adaptation to live up to these expectations....would be appreciated if they tried though

This anime is nailing everything in the audio department. The music in this episode was absolutely perfect in every scene, and the voice acting is great as well.

...and everything else about it fucking sucked.

They completely screwed up the bar scene, skipped VERY major, important events that define Guts' character, and by the look if the next episode preview, they're skipping several volumes of Black Swordsman arc content. And that's not even getting started with the abysmal CGI that makes it look more like a video game cutscene than a proper animation.

Why can't Berserk ever get a proper adaptation? What it needs is an OVA series. Something like Hellsing Ultimate. One volume to one disc. It would be amazing. They wouldn't need to worry about censoring scenes and removing content to stay in line with Japan's copyright laws, and the budget per episode would be higher with an OVA series than a TV series. I'm sure it would be expensive as fuck to make, but given the popularity of Berserk, a GOOD, FAITHFUL adaptation like that would sell like crazy. Look at how well Jojo is doing now, and that was practically unknown in the west. A proper adaptation that faithfully follows the manga has made Jojo more popular than it ever has been. Berserk has a larger international fanbase than Jojo (before the Jojo anime), who has wanted a real, proper adaptation for decades. They'd make their money back many times over.

I really loved and watched Berserk but definetly not this one! Did they know how long we have been waiting? And look what we get! An episode without a single emotion... The anime is a classic and they ruined everything! Where is that great art of Golden Arc? Actually even normal graphics would be ok... Aah i am so disappointed...

The hand-drawn scenes from the Golden Age films look absolutely stunning. The CGI, on the other hand, ruin even those beautifully traditionally drawn scenes.

IMHO it's hot garbage.

Yandere Simulator looks better than the CGI elements in this series.

Oh, excuse me, did I say "fragments"? I meant "majority". I don't know who was responsible for CGI in this series, but he should be fired and banned from ever working with 3D software again. Putting a filter of hand-drawn lines over the CGI doesn't make it look any more good if the base scene and animation is garbage.

Not to mention it's inconsistent as hell. Some single, drawn shots look good, and the very next moment a pile of steaming CGI shit appears on the screen. Anso how they made Puck into a silly mascot.

Should I also say something about the blood, or lack thereof?

My fears about this show are a reality. This looks like a really bad video game.
Some parts that were ACTUALLY 2D looked OK, but the 3D jank ruined my experience.
It trivializes any sort of fear I have of the monsters or of a really dark and tense moment.

The pacing doesn't feel right either. It felt rushed and that they were trying to cram a lot in one episode.
Scenes where you'd expect some oomph or significant impact felt awkward and uneventful.
There's a shitty sketch filter on everything. Scenery looks bright.. awfully bright.

This show may kinda look like Berserk at times (that's being generous)..
But it certainly doesn't have the feel I was hoping for at all.

Overall it felt rushed and forced to me. The potential is there, but not a single thing was executed properly. The jumpy action scenes are really annoying also. Initial D had better cgi and it's over 15 years old. Really, there is no excuse, but I will give it a 2nd chance.

Rip bloody bunny
Cooking had the best animation, rest was ok. Action camera needs a lot of work, quite messy, colors weird & messy too.
