This anime was a perfect example of "It's not how you start, It's how you finish". The first half pretty much bored me. And then the challenges got much harder and Sora was even more awesome until the end. Really enjoyed it, I'm all for a season 2.

8/10.

So, it's been quite a while since an anime received a 10 from me, but I just finished NGNL and it easily got the grade.

Ah, that last episode was quite enjoyable. My only complaint was that Clammy and Fiel didn't kiss right after Clammy declared that she had more confidence.

She turned her head and everything. It looked like they were gonna' kiss... whatever. OTL

It was entertaining when I turned my brain off. But some parts of the show were so stupid that even that didn't help.

A fairly enjoyable series but it suffers from the same issue that "problem children" had, albeit to a lesser degree, where the MC or in this case MCs are so OP that there's very little tension. The games were interesting but it felt like blank was pulling shit out of nowhere in most of them, even if they didn't actually cheat. Still it was pretty funny and personality-wise, I actually liked Sora. 7/10

Enjoyable series, but I felt like they focused on the wrong stuff. They had 12 episodes to work with and it felt like a solid 20 minute episode worth of material was devoted solely to awkward fanservice. I know the MC's were OP, but watching them ass-pull their way through game after game was easily the best part of the series (not so much for the tension, but the creativity). Compared to that, the fanservice felt like such a waste of time, and Sora's reactions were so over the top that they just came off as annoying.

Overall gave it a 7/10. It's definitely good, but I don't understand all the 10/10s. It's a fun show with a brilliant premise (seriously, Tet's scenes were f-ing gold and I wanted more of him), but it felt like so much of the fan service was pointless and wasted what little time they had in 12 episodes.

Edit: Btw, for Sora's secret order, couldn't he have just instructed Steph to win the game? Is there anywhere in the pledges where that sort of thing would not work? His plan ended up working well enough, but I couldn't help but wonder if the simpler way would have worked as well.

The novels have even more fanservice, they actually cut out all the most ecchi bits :>

To think that such a fun premise would be wasted on generic fan service. It's like buying a hot dog at a fine restaurant.

it's used almost purely for comedy though rather than fap material, and I think it does that pretty well

also complaining about fanservice in an ecchi anime is pretty stupid I should add

That's what I'm saying though, that using this cool premise: a world where everything is decided by games and where power is in the hands of those who can most cleverly play the game and having that the premise of an ECCHI ANIME?! It's just such a waste. Ecchi anime are roughly the same no matter what the premise, so why waste such a cool setting on a genre where the setting isn't important.

I'm not sure, and this may make me sound like a douche, but it could be because the author is not popular and is very new to the whole thing. Actually he's not even Japanese. So yeah insert generic ecchi sells comment here.

It's not being a douche to state the obvious. It's hard for any foreigner in any culture to master another country's "pop" culture, one only has to see the tremendous difference between American and British humor to recognize how difficult it is even for people of the same language. Not to say it is impossible (Murakami is an example of a Japanese writer with popularity overseas) but it is very difficult and already puts the writer into a niche category no matter how successful.

Add to this that this writer has a very unique art style, one that is not suited to many genres (drama, battle, and the like). Personally I love his art style, but I really can't see it working in anything other than comedy or ecchi (though I think I could write a great SF story that would use it well). His uniqueness makes him even more "niche". Personally I think the writer was smart to combine comedy and ecchiness, I don't think doing merely the former would have worked.

And as you said he is new. And in Japan, with so many new things being released every month, it is hard for anyone, let alone for a non-Japanese writer with a niche style, to get noticed.

What is amazing though is that his Japanese publishers took a chance on animated the story. Before the animation the novels frankly sold very poorly, less than 10K per volume. Someone had the brains to see that the story could sell if it was animated (his artwork is very suited towards animation), and they were willing to put down serious money to do it. Kudos to them, the animation turned 10K per volume into 150K per volume.

I was more referring to my comment that ecchi sells, because it can be taken as me saying Japanese viewers don't know what's "good" and are perverts etc..

Anyway I hope his success with NGNL encourages him to write more, I am interested in seeing what kind of stories he can come up with ^^
I also really liked the artstyle.

Good to know it was Dora after all to end the match
The shrine priestess appeared at last with a coin flip to end

So much stuff revealed which makes me interested for more and enough for a sequel
with an art style similar to "Humanity declines"
No Game No life was certainly entertaining to follow

Eh, this was okay. On the bright side it didn't overstay its welcome and ended at 12 episodes. While I found it entertaining it also felt mindless and empty for the most part. I didn't laugh at much of the comedy and the fan service often seemed out of place. I'm rating 5/10.

What I liked: Premise of the story. Setting. Animation. Opening movie. Some of the characters. Voice acting (Tamura Yukari, Mamiko Noto, etc.) The design of the games. Some of the references. Someof the comedy.

What I didn't like: The progression and "answers" to the games. Sora, because I couldn't take him seriously and never once felt like rooting for him. The protagonists in general... sorry, just never felt connected with them or the way they play and win the games. Never any struggle that made me feel tense or worried.

All things considered, I'll give it a 7/10. For now. Might very well change to a 6/10, but we'll see.

very entertaining show..

it's probably shit if you're a female or a feminist or even a beta male

omg a hint of wincest? 3/10
omg this anime lacks plot depth 4/10
omg another harem show 2/10
omg this show is so unrealistic and I'm too dumb to follow what they're saying.. 1/10
omg stfu and enjoy the show for what it's worth for once please...

this show is all about comedy and characters (mainly Shiro and Sora) imo..

the games are a bit cringe worthy but art and animation were great.

Plot and settings are pretty predictable and forgettable

not quite a 9 in my book though
