Goddamn, what an amazing episode. Felt so sorry for Chroniko. She was so happy and positive despite her circumstances but she was taken advantage of and now her memories are lost forever.. the aunt realising she really loved Chroniko was too damn sad ;_;

Love the OP and ED btw.. and just the whole soundtrack in general actually.. The art style takes a bit getting used to, but the sharp lines and colours make up for it. Plus some of the characters are beautiful.

Powerful. Brilliant.

Had I known this show was gonna be anything like this, I'd have never pt it off for so long. The MAL synopsis does not do it justice.

Best episode so far. The piano playing scene and music near the end was very sad and hauntingly beautiful, a real highlight of the series so far. Not ashamed to say I shed a tear.

This is also getting easier to follow, last episode was quite frustrating.

I had a hunch last episode, but it looks like Kaiba will get a new body each episode?

What a striking implication, that one can guide the course of their future actions by removing any influencing memories. A woman that loves Chroniko as her own daughter—and as the living memory of her sister—couldn't possibly sell off her niece's body, even for the sake of her sons. But take away all happy memories of Chroniko, and she becomes disposable....

It frightens me to think that depression could lead to people taking "suicide in steps." You maybe can't bring yourself to take a leap off a bridge, but you can slowly wipe your mind of all positive memories, giving yourself less and less reason to live.

I honestly am not understanding the appeal of this, because its depressing that somehow makes it a good show? It all is just random melodrama to me, there is no direction as to what the show is trying to aim for other than "life sucks". Main character still a big question mark who just looks around with vacant wide eyes. Right now I'd give this a 5 and feel generous with the rating.

Poor Chroniko. I couldn't imagine why her memories were thrown away like that, I'm sure they were worth something to someone, especially the happy parts? Maybe there's a detail I'm missing.

What a tragic and yet sinister episode; when the man at the lab told her, as she was fading away, that her memories will not reach her family i was destroyed.

As for the family, such a complex thing; at first i thought for sure her step-mother really didn't wanted her at all, but then the end cleared this out for us and showed us a more complex reality. So sad they used to hide food and stuff, but at the same time due to the mom's job it looks they did indeed had some hardtime.

So sad now Kaiba is a host in her body, feeling miserable for the lost kid.

That was some damn sad shit that happened to Chroniko, deceived like that. Bitch-aunt seemed to have some regrets in the end.
Now with Kaiba in her body I wonder how it will go from here.
The thought of everything depending on a single chip is terryfying. This is getting good.

aunt wasn't exactly a bitch she forgot about her memories of chroniko and when she regained them she realized the truth...

when i watched the ep for the first time i didn't understand what the punch line in it i simply thought that it's just low quality drama
but now after watching it for the second time it's make a lot of sense the writer just wanted to tell us ''there is a lot of danger in playing with the human mind and memories basically change the hole feelings of the person''

Out of the first 3 episodes so far this one gotta be my favorite. Everything was really well done.
Seeing how the aunt ended up forgetting about her good memories with Chroniko because she exchange everything for artificial happyness and gratifying sensations, only for later remember everything in one of the most tragic ways imaginable was heartbreaking.

The soundtrack is killing me.

an emotional episode.. poor Chroniko and auntie.. love how most of the later part of the episode was visually narrated with very few dialogues, so well-directed, heart-touching without dwelling too long.. and that music.. <3

The planet names are cute haha.. Toto, Lala..loving the worlds created, even though they feel lonely and deprived in some way.. the direction is good :(

..the place where Chronika has her last chat with Warp was beautiful..

It's been a while since I last watched this episode in its entirety... I still believe it is a real masterpiece. Everything is just so well done. The character of Chroniko's aunt. The memories being regained with the piano. The use of The Tree Song. The animation, the soundtrack, the characters... Everything is just so good. I love this show. I was afraid rewatching it would ruin my original experience but it's actually even better.

Excellent standalone episode, and a pretty emotional one. You know a show's doing a good job when a supporting character for one episode only without too much dialogue, is still compelling to watch and someone I could genuinely feel sorrow for. Nothing forced about this episode whatsoever on the emotional front compared to tons of drama anime I've seen, the montages of memories were pretty powerful stuff. That doc's a scumbag though.

The tremendously sad events and themes are presented in a matter-of-fact, "this is how it is in this world," without the tear-jerking drama and sad scenes, just a melancholy atmosphere that sells the world.

Great writing.
Despite showing us that cronico's supposed mother has animosity towards her and her sister, it also showed that she still loves her that why she bought her boots and cried out loud when cronico left.

I really like some direction elements, like the flipped picture on the wall(indicating hatred).

Better execution than the last incomprehensible episode, but that isn't exactly an achievement.

Surprised Chroniko's body was just thrown in with the rest of the waste if it was intended to be procured by an aristocrat client. Usually you'd expect it to be stored somewhere more secure.
