Don't really get the hype. I would consider this average. like 7/10. Some of the themes are interesting if explored correctly

What a fucking ride, holy shit. When Askeladd decapitated the king, I had straight up Red Wedding flashbacks. I can't even imagine this story without him; I grew more and more to feel he was the real protagonist. Askeladd... was a true warrior.

man I feel deeply for Thorfinn. Despite appearances, Askeladd was clearly a father figure to him, and he was deprived his entire reason for living. I don't know what that means for his character development. I love a good character death, and in a way I think that Askeladd's arc was told, but at the same time... I was really hoping Thorfinn was coming to save him. I wanted a culminating final scene -- someday, not now -- where Thorfinn finally grows enough to slay Askeladd and know his entire life was purposeless. And now Thorfinn knows his entire life was purposeless; he was deprived of his growth prematurely.

I anxiously await what becomes of his character.

They really killed the only character i liked in this anime. Annoying and screaming thorfinn with ragnar were so painfull to watch. There is no reason for me to continue with season 2 but i will give it a chance. Remembering thorfinn's repeated scenes with duels makes me not give it chance but i will try since season 2 is considered as a better seinen version of season 1.
This could have been much better in the hands of better director. Death of thors was so badly written as well. This anime is considered as seinen however it contains shounen type of characters that have too much power as one person. Therefore this took away the anime's seriousness. Only scene that was written and directed really well was askeladd's death. Prince's development in one episode was so badly written that it made me laugh during these scenes. From low level introvert to king potential god tier lvl. This still makes me laugh LOL

7.5/10

After chasing him for 11 years Thorfinn doesn't get his kill and loses his purpose for living not only that Askeladd is dead. Askeladd was such a beast he had to die by his "own" hands.
Thorkell is so disappointed in what Thorfinn has become, a shell of a warrior. That end scene where they should everything in the knives was nice.
Absolute amazing anime giving it a 9/10.

When Canute killed Askeladd I said "OH SHIT" out loud. that's how good it was.
Rip askeladd, he was the best character.
The part where Thorfinn drops the sword is confusing, and kinda unsatisfying. Does it just cut from there?
This was a good show. 8/10

Wow I wasn't expecting Askeladd to lose his cool and outright kill the king like that, unless that was his plan all along. Though at the cost of Thorfinn not being able to kill him, Canute needed to strike him down in order for their plan to succeed.

i dont think that was his plan all-along, if u recall at the feast Askeladd, as soon as the king made his declaration, suddenly started jogging his mind trying to quickly come up with a solution so i guess it was spare of the moment but with such conviction ..he just went with it

Wow, I was not expecting Askeladd to die this season. And he even killed Sweyn, which I thought would be the main focus of season 2. This is such an exciting development in the story! I'm really curious what Thorfinn's next move will be, considering that moving on isn't exactly his strong suit.

Oh man, the most interesting character in the show has died. I was looking forward to his schemes. I wonder who will replace Askeladd in Season 2?
It took me a while to get into the show, but it really picked up when Thorkell caught up to them. I'm excited to see what season 2 has in store.

Nobody.
The first series adapted the "prologue" of the manga, the second series will start on a very different situation and be closer to the main narrative, wich makes t fundamentally unlike the first one, wich can be a positive.

Have a good time!

This anime has the most historically unfounded story I've ever seen, along with the most childish dialogues and unrealistic outcomes. I only watched it this far because I can't stop midway. I created an account on MyAnimeList just to vent the anger I felt after watching this crappy anime. It's a shame that people put it in the same category as Berserk and Vagabond.

I rate this season 5/10. I enjoyed it a lot, but also found it irredeemably stupid in some regards.

Good:
Atmosphere, visuals.

Bad:
Characters are nonsensical and badly written.

Canute is the worst offender here. His character transformation makes zero logical sense. A twink effeminate boy who's been emotionally stunted his whole life and can't even speak due to his traumas, cannot possibly do a 180 and become a resolute, outspoken and charismatic man instantly, just like that. It comes off as not believable and unrealistic. Overcoming mental barriers takes years of practice. It's not something that can be flipped off by experiencing the death of your mentor / adopted father.

Thorkell is another character that is badly written. He's portrayed as an honorable warrior. But somehow, Thorkell doesn't care that because of Askeladd's obvious intervention in the duel against Thorfinn, Thorkell has lost his eye? An eye that's crucial to a warrior's life? Any warrior that doesn't have depth perception (you need both eyes for that) is doomed to fail.

Thorfinn is just an angsty teen. Very annoying to watch. I don't care if he "wisens up" later on. I'll still hate him. Very bad MC to have in a story.

I see, all along it was a modern, grotesque caricature of Berserk in a shonen style where pathetic edgy teenager Thorfinn is Guts and the Canute is somehow is Griffith now, the arc with a mercenary leader Askeladd who became a stepfather for Thorfinn is ended in a pretty ridiculous way for Askeladd himself and anime as a whole but alright, who cares. I've heard that second season is somehow even worse, very inspiring.

1) Thorfinn Gave Some Damn Chills Man . First , When he declares his revenge on boat & Second , His Shout Towards The Dead Body . Man , That Was Something.

2) Opening Songs 1 & 2 Were Amazing But Not A Fan Of Either Of The Endings Though.

Amazing, but at the same time it feels so bad to end like this. If not the fact that there is S2 already waiting for me, it'd feel super empty right now... actually I do anyway.

@Ba-Cii10 Sure, buddy, what I really needed is another typical comment 'you didn't understand, lol, kek, ha-ha'. It's pretty easy to notice who has something to say and who doesn't by the content of comments. Of course you liked this trash anime, it's not surprising me at all, it was made literally for people like you. Good for you, I guess.

So, I don't know what to say. The number of anime I have finished crying can be counted on one hand. By the middle of the season, I started to empathize with the man and I ended the season crying. I would like to thank the Massket team for being able to convey such a work of art to us by making us feel it.

The death of Askeladd was handled masterfully. Now what will Thorfinn's character be about now that his reason for existence is gone? It's an interesting existential question, what is the meaning of life once your single minded focus in life slips from you and becomes completely unattainable permanently?
