Meh, I'm neither proud nor ashamed. It is what it is, and I enjoy what I enjoy. I'm old enough not to really care what people think is cringe.

It isn't cringe until you start embarrassing yourself in public

People say that a lot of things are cringe nowadays but what about watching anime and labelling yourself as a fan or an Otaku or a weeb or a person of culture?

Anime fans are some of the most diverse, educated, creative, passionate and woke people out there. But we also have furries, lolicons, etc and we are looked at and look at each other as uncouth derelicts and delinquents who are overweight, lazy, smelly, horny virgins and oddballs and are of little use or benefit to society.

So how do you feel about your place in the anime community? Are you proud to be one of us or do you hate yourself for it?

Why even care what others think? Fu*k that.

The solution is that you don't talk about anime to anyone then you won't have to even think about whether or not you should give a fuck about that they are thinking your hobby cringy.

I guess so. Anime isn’t my purpose in life and I could definitely drop it if I wanted to but it’s entertaining.

Anime has been a big part of my life and has had a huge impact on me. I may have been given weird reactions sometimes, when I mention I like anime, but my love fot this amazing medium is so much bigger then the little amount of shame I feel sometimes!

If it's just a side thing you do as a hobby and just casually watch anime for fun, then no, not at all

However if you make it your entire life like it revolves around anime and your room and everything is nothing but anime and you spend every waking hour either eating food or eating up anime after anime, then yes it starts to get quite a little bit cringe

I just like cartoons man, it ain't my identity since I'm not that empty inside and I especially don't like to lump myself into group based on that we watch cartoons made in Japan.

And anime is already pretty mainstream stuff so I see no reason to separate so strictly "anime fans" vs "rest of the world". What would be cringy in watching some Re-zero when most likely every 14 year old who uses tik tok is familiar with it. Now that I think about it...

Why do people care about w what other say, I found it logically unexplainable, The whole existence is YOU is your vision to it it what you observe and than you analyze.
to answer the question: Anime is not cringe for me, and the others Fuck'em all I literally Don't give a fuck about any opinion but mine.

I would say its "Cringy" for everyone thats never been into it just because everytime it comes up outside my circle I get that judgy look, but meh I couldn't care less. Anime is a part of my identity and I'm not ashamed of being "cringy".

And also for me what's really cringy about it are weebs and people in general that don't understand that not everyone has to be into anime and that's ok.

When did 'cringy' or 'cringeworthy' become 'cringe' anyway? Are normal people so socialized that a personal feeling became a collective one? Shit.

First of all, don't make the threads name 'Is it cringe` and then ask 'Are you proud?' I nearly chose the wrong one because of that ^^.
Aside from that, I am proud being an animefan, sure. But those stereotypes exist for a reason. I smell, I'm overweight, I'm a virgin. Well, but I'm also highly intelligent, so well...

It all depends on how you present yourself to the others;

if you act like a fking weeaboo then you are not an anime fan, you are a degenerate;

if you behave like a normal person that loves anime, then it is all good.

Not anymore. Anime has gotten a little popular now so it's not as bad as in the early 2000's. But if you say you are a Moe/Slice of Life fan then expect all the cringe.

I mean, there's cringe ways to go about it as well as casual ways to go about it. I thought that went without saying haha. But I do think a lot of people think the "weeb" kind are really dorky, but that also only seems to be the case when you make it really noticeable.

I'd guess as long as you don't act cringe then nobody will have a reason to call you out for it, even though some random people may still think you're lame from time to time.

I'm probably a living breathing example of a non-stereotypical anime watcher.
I like watching anime but unfortunately I can't be open about it because I suffer the wrath of bullying.
But I am going to start being really open about it once I hit college. Go big or go home.

On the internet I go out of my way to use manga/ anime avatars although I could easily pick ones with a different origin. Some years ago I did read manga and watch a bit of anime, but I would still use avatars from other sources. In the past, I began wanting to be perceived as a weeb. Now I don't care as much, but it has become tradition.

In real life I avoid showing it/ or talking about it (except with family or people who I know have the same interest). However, that's because I avoid sharing my interests in general.

You titled the thread “is it cringe” so I didn’t even read the poll and voted no. -_-
I should’ve voted yes.

It’s only cringe if you pronounce multiple anime as “animes”. It’s just ANIME people. ANIME for plural, ANIME for singular. Jeez

It's only cringe if you go overboard and act like a REAL degenerate weeb.

And this applies to ALL fandoms.

Remember the Twilight fans....my god, I've never wanted to own a flame thrower so badly in my life!

If you're into the weird stuff, you're a degenerate weeb. If you're not into the weird stuff, you're a fuckin normie. Basically it's a no-win situation, so stop worrying and enjoy some Nekopara or whatever.

I think that being an anime fan is indeed inherently cringe, even if you yourself aren't cringe as an anime fan, being in the community is, because most of the community is cringe. Look at all the furries, lolicons and etc as you said, and then tell me that the community is not cringe.

100% not proud to be a fan.

It's simply not socially acceptable where I live. I'd be looked at as socially defeated/an outcast if word got out during my internship that I watch anime. That's why I keep it to myself besides a few close friends.

I think hobbies are a great way to connect with others but anime is definitely an exception. I wish I can be more open about anime in general.

I blame it on the vocal minority that makes anime as a whole really weird. Just go to yt and type in anime cringe and you'll know what I mean.
