Lmao at all the people going "OH MY GOD I CANT BELIEVE HE DID IT SO CASUALLY WORST EPISODE EVER!!!"
What? Were you expecting a dramatic monologue that truly captivated the states of mind of Reiner and Bertolt at the time? This reveal was perfect, it was fucking humane. Not every reveal needs to have a booming orchestral soundtrack that drags on for 3 episodes, Reiner and Bertolt held the secret that they were the Armoured and Colossal Titans for over 4 years, and it's clear as hell that Reiner was slowly starting to enjoy his life as an integrated soldier in the army. No wonder he fucking snapped, it's clear his mental state had deteriorated greatly because of all the guilt he'd felt.

Sure it came out of nowhere but that's precisely what makes it so good, it makes Reiner seem like a human instead of a generic morally-black evil guy who needs a monologue. "IT WAS ME EREN, I WAS THE ARMOURED TITAN ALL ALONG! MUAHAHAHA!" The reveal was done perfectly because it makes Reiner seem like an actual human being who just broke down from all his guilt, it wasn't handled "casually", you could genuinely see he was deteriorating to the point where he just wanted to get it all over with.

As for the CGI Colossal Titan, I can see why people are upset, but they were only on screen for like what, 10 seconds at most? And it doesn't even look terrible, just "eh", it by no means detracts from this which in my opinion is the best episode in the series.

Mmmh, then what was it when Bertoldt said that he was more like a warrior and Reiner was like "WTF are you talking about ?"

Also, I understand that some people feel disappointed. It was a beautiful revelation, but when fucker come and say "Wait for the big X" "You're not ready" EVERY FUCKING EPISODE, THEN THIS HAPPEN.
The same happened to Jojo DiU "Ah, you haven't seen anything yet", yeah, fucker.

The revelation SHOULD have been epic, but instead we get a "hello im armored titan, this is my friend colossal titan" and then a 5 minute unnecessary flashback. And I'm sure we haven't seen anything yet, but jesus christ this episode was fucking atrocious.

They already suspected them since season 1, hence why they already move them to a different location from when eren and Annie where doing battle, not only that they got rid of all the 104th gear. Rewatch season 2 episode 1, and you will get it, even Reiner was suspecious of that.

They showed that flashback for the viewers like you, that may have missed that they were already suspecious of Reiner and bertholdt.

Lets just say Reiner mental state isn't normal right now.

Yea, the cgi collosal titan sucks I agree there.

Sorry, but isn't it a bit too fucking convenient that Armin remembers the Female Titan looked at her hand? They've been doing the mid-episode flashback thing a bit too often. I really appreciated them in the first episode, though, but now they're being overused.

Eren was literally blatantly told that Reiner and Bertolt were titans, and he was also told by Armin and Hanji the same thing, and he still didn't want to believe what he was hearing? Please.

its not bad writing at all, its just that you guys are use to cliche over dramatic reveals.

Also here is a good explanantion on why Reiner reveal his identity. https://www.reddit.com/r/ShingekiNoKyojin/comments/68ghuf/manga_spoilers_a_sudden_realization_about_chapter/

It's not he didnt want to believe. Hanji told everyone the priority was bringing them underground, where they could not transform. That simple.

He's talking about being a warrior or a soldier.

you could say warrior(outside of the wall) is about mission comes first while being soldier(being 3 years inside) he wants to protect his comrade.

Why should it have been epic? They're not your saturday morning cartoon villains, there's no need for them to have an epic "I WAS THE BAD GUY ALL ALONG!" moment. The series has never been about shit like that, you're expecting things to be way too basic when in actuality the scene made perfect sense given Reiner and Bertolt's roles.

I knew people would flip their shit about how nonchalantly they revealed themselves but there's a reason as for why. I guess you'll find out more in the coming episodes but let me just say this, the story is much more complicated than you may think.
As for execution of how they adapted it, it was brilliant. The OST is magic in SnK, I love it! I also actually like the CGI used for the Colossal but I can understand why others don't. It definitely does seem out of place.

It may be hard to notice, but if you pay close attention there were hints here and there even though they weren't obvious.
In the course of the story it will become clearer.

This was always sort of a lackluster twist; I feel like anyone not completely obsessed with the show would just be like "huh, so that one guy and the other guy were titans." We spent a little bit of time with Reiner and Bertolt, but we really didn't know them well enough to warrant feeling COMPLETELY BETRAYED.

Explain why it was badly written then, because all it sounds like is that you wanted a generic "IT WAS ME ALL ALONG!" moment. The series actually has much better writing than you'd expect, and there were plenty of hints all the way through the series to point that Reiner and Bertolt were titans.

Is it too much to understand Eren's disbelief? What did you expect? Clearly he's young and naive, it's not far-fetched at all to expect him to react the way he did after he was literally dragged aside and told that two reliable friends in the force were the people indirectly responsible for the death of his mother and hundreds of thousands of other people.

That's the whole point. The reveal isn't meant to be epic as all hell because Reiner and Bertolt aren't generic villains, they're humans put into very unfortunate circumstances that led them to becoming who they are. Reiner confessed to Eren because he finally snapped after being with the group for 4 years while having to hide his identity.

You'll learn more in the coming episodes and it'll all make sense.

Though Yoshimasa Hosoya who voices Reiner is said to take a leave due to health concerns till the end of the year. I wonder if this will affect production of the remaining 6 episodes at all.

Reiner: I'm the armored titan and he's the colossal titan.

Wtf Hahahahaha did he seriously reveal it like that. I can't believe this. Reiner, you idiot, just wait till Eren is asleep or something. God I never thought I would laugh this much at an attack on titan episode.

Anyway Reiner being the armored titan always seemed obvious to me so this wasn't much of a surprise. Wasn't sure about Berthold being the colossal but I guess I should have seen it with how much he sweats.

I would assume they probably finished recording everything, especially since this is only 12 episodes. I don't know for sure though.

Unrelated to your comment though, it's quite sad to see so many people complaining about the way Bertolt and Reiner revealed their true identities. It seems a lot of people are disappointed that they didn't pull the typical "IT WAS US ALL ALONG, I'M SURE YOU DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING BUT YES, WE'RE THE ONES WHO FUCKED EVERYONE OVER 5 YEARS AGO MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA LOOK AT US WE'RE BAD GUYS!!!!!!" one of the most random moment in the manga "hey eren, come here. btw, I'm armored and he is colossal, wanna come with us?" literally in panel background out of nowhere. I remember laughing out loud to this panel, long long ago before SnK become a thing lol

that ending scene was epic with really dramatic BGM when transforming. hype!

Agreed.
If anything, this was the point back in the manga where AoT started to shine as a series with much better writing than I expected. That's why it's frustrating as hell to see how many people are mad because they don't understand either subtlety or that not every villain has a moustache to twirl with an epic monologue.

I remember laughing when Reiner just randomly told them they're the titanshifters in the manga. I was expecting the anime to be at least a bit different. It's like the mangaka had enough that point and wanted to take it really easy. I mean... we surely can't say that revelation was a cliché. I can't imagine any simpler way to reveal something that important. Hopefully that actually was supposed to be some random comedy, otherwise I have no idea what it was.

It's quite simple honestly. The reveal was done because Reiner had reached his breaking point from holding in the secret for over 4 years, he said it out of the blue because he just wanted to rid himself of the guilt of hiding it for so long.

The villains in AoT are much more human than you'd think. Reiner and Bertolt are really interesting characters.

Wow...

I was somehow spoiled about Reiner, and I was having doubts about Berthold, but the scene was really different from what I expected!
Yeah, that's us, the ones that killed your mother and other thousands of people! O.o

I must say that if you pay attention, the details about the identity of the armored titan were all there, it's just that it's difficult to notice them if you don't know where to look.
For example the fact that Annie attacked from the right wing of the formation, same of where Reiner thought Eren was, was something I noticed only after getting spoiled.

Still not understanding well Reiner's behaviour, but well, I guess we will understand more next week.
