Best order is always watching by the airing date.

It's not like you can't drop it if you don't like it.

Ok thanks. I'll problably watch the 2006 fate/stay night first then. So I have some idea of what the new 2014 release will be like.

FSN 2006 is extremely inaccurate and non-canon. IT has barely anything to do with the actual franchise.

I know you dislike it, but I don't believe it's the worst thing ever, especially if ufotable only animate UBW and HF and he doesn't want to read the novel. It mostly follows the first route. You're making it sound worse than it is.

Fai is a hardcore purist, something like DEEN's F/SN is beyond shit for someone like him.

They will most likely add bits of fate to UBW.

And FNS 2006 paints very horrible picture and deflates hype.

I think I'll problably play the VN and then just watch the 2014 Fate/stay night since that is the most popular opinion.

As someone who has recently gotten into the fate series, I would highly recommend that you play/read the visual novel first. If the medium is something you really strongly oppose, if that is so I still advise you reconsider that opposition, then watch fate/zero then wait for the new adaptation. But really the visual novel is excellent and has a wealth of character development and an exciting story if you can just get through the slice of life bits. I had never played a visual novel before, and I absolutely adored it.
As for prototype and kaleid liner Prisma Illya, those can be watched and appreciated after Zero and the visual novel.
The two things that I would recommend to anyone are the fate/stay night visual novel and fate/zero. They both compliment each other very well, and while it is better to read the visual novel first, the two have great synergy regardless the viewing order.

That is a very good decision. Oh and after you play the VN, you are basically cleared to watch and experience any other fate media with out spoiling something else for your self. So you can watch fate/zero directly afterwards.

We're not allowed to give links to illegal sites on MAL, but the internet is your friend
Thanks for the help but I would like to see of there's a way to get it legally without having to resort to illegal sites.

Your options are limited if you can't read Japanese. FYI, "Fate/stay night Réalta Nua" is the updated version of FSN and doesn't contain any h-scenes.

1. There is still the original PC game from 2004 (or its DVD form from 2006). A little bit of searching should give you some results. I think even amazon should have one of the two versions. A group called mirror-moon provided an English patch. Be aware that this version doesn't have any voiced characters.

2. The Fate/stay night+hollow ataraxia set. Not too sure if it's the original FSN game (since it's missing the updated "Realta Nua" label, I'll assume it's the original). It's also 18+.

3. There was a PC 2012 Realta Nua version (no h-scenes) , but it was taken out. The patch for it was recently released and you can imagine how dumbfounded the patch makers looked, since they couldn't recommend people to buy the game anymore. Their patch is still the best one you can get. It also contains the OPs and the remixed music from the 2012 PS Vita release and if you want, you can switch back to the h-scenes (recommendable if you play the third FSN route). Since this game is unfortunately no longer officially available, you must look up torrents or other sites to get this version.

1. Fate/stay night (DEEN, 2006)
2. Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works tv series (ufotable, 2014) and its 2nd season
3. Fate/stay night Heaven's Feel movie (ufotable, 2015?)
4. Fate/Zero & Fate/Zero 2nd season (ufotable)
5. End of Evangelion
6. Fate/Zero: Please! Einzbern Counseling Room (can be watched in tandem with Fate/Zero) (ufotable)

Fixed. Watching EoE randomly and without context helps add in that little extra bit of mindscrew to really round out the F/Z ending.

A fanfic, Fate/Zero Sense, actually had[spoiler]Shinji as the Servant Lancer, in place of Mole Face, and when at the end the mud was about to fall, he started losing it, remembering Rei in EoE.[spoiler]

You could always just watch it on youtube. Not sure if I'm allowed to link it but there's a channel on there that has the entire VN uploaded. I sometimes rewatch some scenes on there to re-capture the epic moments.

Thanks for the suggestion. I may end up skipping the VN because it's kinda hard to get apparently. I may just start with the 2006 version of fate/stay night. If I find the time then I may just watch a play through of the VN like you suggested.

Hi everyone! I started watching Fate/Zero anime like 2 years ago but then I dropped it because of unknown reasons (I read some of the manga). Today I wanna start watching the whole Fate series but I don't know the story order, can someone tell me?

FSN aired years before Fate Zero, but Fate Zero is the prequel to Fate Stay Night.

You can just watch it in that order. FSN gets a bit of a hate though, and I personally didn't find it that great myself. It was good at times but I was a bored overall while watching.

You can just try watching the newer adaptation when it starts to air?

I've never read the VN's so I can't really say if you can skip the first FSN or not

This has been covered many many times already, just search forum threads.

But to humor you,

FSN UBW (tv) > F/Zero is the most recommended due to deen studios' adaptation being considered poor and unfaithful to source material.

If you're okay with that, then FSN (2006) > Fate Zero is acceptable too.

In fact, Fate/Zero > FSN UBW is also okay, but less recommended as it spoils certain elements of the show and Fate/Zero is harder to follow without knowing the mechanics of the holy grail war (Since they neglect its explanation a fair bit since it was intended to be watched as a prequel AFTER FSN and not before)

You start by watching the UBW movie, then the second season of Fate/Zero, then fate stay night by deen, then lastly the third movie of KnK.

It is highly advised to read Stay Night as a VN first, then watch or read F/Z afterwards.

I made the mistake of doing it the other way around but it is what it is.

Read the visual novel. If you can't be assed then read the summary on the wiki. Then watch Fate/Zero. Then watch the new UBW. Then watch the DEEN adaptions for an ego boost knowing your gateway to the fate series wasn't that shitty 2006 version I had the horror of dealing with.

What no, you watch the fifth KnK movie since that one's the best.

Sherlockeb said:

Actually, UBW is probably the least effected by F/Z, but one can say that F/Z still spoils the true nature of Kiritsugu's ideals, which isn't supposed to be covered until UBW. The third route, Heaven's Feel, is probably the one that F/Z spoils the most, and that'll be adapted as movie(s) by Ufotable sometime in 2015.
And I mean that in the most sexually painful way possible.

For people still can't decide what to watch first I watched F/Z than i watched 1st season of F/SN (2014) version. I am waiting for 2nd season on April 2015. Most people said F/Z spoils everything and should be watched last but really seeing the world of fate zero after 10 years in F/SN and some references about the past is amazing i really liked it and never felt spoiled about it. I did because old F/SN is really bad reviews and i didn't want to wait for full F/SN season in 2015. So i watched Zero first, now watched 1st season of F/SN (2014) and currently waiting for 2nd season. I would recommend to do the same if you can't wait and just see Fate universe.

You did get spoiled. You just did not realize it yet.

I am not going to go through all of that again, because this thread is already full of explanations of that. Both UBW(barring one twist) and HF will be nothing but a recap now.

THIS.

HF Literally hinges upon viewer being interested in wanting to find out who
. Zero viewers won't have that "hook". Because they will know those answers before HF spends ~3 movies teasing and answering them.

As for UBW, as said above

one thing for sure: don't watch the FSN 2006 deen unless you want inaccurate depiction of characters, story and spoilers on other stuff, ubw and even HF parts lol

Don't watch the uBW movie also.

No seriously ok it looks like a lot of people are giving different advice it's getting really not OK

: Fate/stay night is the main story all right
Fate/zero is a prequel made AFTER FSN that demands you to have knowledge of the plot of FSN to really get some stuff, and actually care for what's going on in episode 1 which spoil a lot of stuff for Heavens Feel movies
even if UFO decided to do it before everything it doesn't mean you have to watch it before.

FSN 2006 is a no-no

Best order: FSN UBW 2014
FSN Heavens Feel
then Fate/zero.

People who are advising F/Z to be watched first doesn't seem to realize how much it spoil HF...
IT SPOILS IT A LOT !
