| I guess there's no contest that this week's episode was Makima's big moment. The presentation of the full scope of her power is easily one of the manga's most memorable moments, and I think this adaptation's already recognizable style of build-up, storyboarding, animation direction and even soundtrack really managed to find a way to do it justice. Not sure if I liked the conclusion of the train sequence as much as I thought I would, though. I might have to add it to my shortlist of moments that truly struck me in their manga iteration while in the anime not as much, but it comes with the territory. Still satisfying in its own account. The temple sequence on the other hand is no doubt some signature top shelf stuff. Loved the small details, like the animation of the clothing folds during Makima's outfit change, them giving snacks to the prisoners (for some reason I can't stop thinking about this), the shot of the convict staring at the steps to the temple, the ominous music throughout the whole thing, and finally the cross-cutting during Makima's iconic hand gesture. I'm not even a big Makima fan and even so I felt immensely satisfied with the whole package delivered this week. I gotta admit though, the scene in which Akane takes a good look at the blood splats and says "a bullshit power like this is bound to be Makima" cracked me up real hard. If this statament is present in the manga I honestly didn't remember it at all, but it's a whole mood once you're used to the character in question like most of us are at this point. Funny as it sounds, but Makima aside, there's no denying that Kobeni was also an integral part of the main event. It's been a fun couple of weeks, watching from afar other people's unfavorable reactions to her initial presentation just to be blown away by a single action sequence as hard as they were expected to. Not only funny but a bit nostalgic as well, when I remember going through the same thing while reading the manga for the first time, even if not that long ago. All that aside, I really loved the animation in this sequence; that arm chop and subsequent gunplay really hit the spot for me. Can't shake off how much I was left feeling how fun this episode was, overall. Almost caught me by surprise as soon as I realized the credits were rolling. Looking forward to having this much fun throughout the final chapters of this small saga we're already so deep into. |

Weather that kind of humor works for you or not is a subjective opinion but the show is definitely trying to be goofy. Also almost every shonen fandom hypes their show as the best show ever. It doesn't really mean much. I don't understand why you put other people's positive opinion of it as a genuine criticism of the show. You should judge the show for what it is rather than what people on the internet are saying it to be. maybe taking itself seriously was the wrong way of wording it, but to what you were saying, yeah, definitely not funny lol, not sure how making a character out to be a drunkard whore and then killing her off and expecting the audience to care is peak comedy, maybe edgy comedy is a better way to describe it than taking itself seriously. obv subjective as comedy is hit and miss like you said, but handling such subject matter the way it did is pretty yikes. tbh, i dont actually care that people like this show, thats fine, i like dumb shit i know is bad too, but at least i can call it for what it is and not come out swinging at people that dont like it. my main point in bringing up the popularity is how i subjectively grade things, something that is just dumb fun would be average, not a 9/10, but thats just me, take it with a grain of salt, my bad Tennebris_Method said: it doesn't have to be on the nose for what Makima can or can't do, she has been established as a mysterious character from the get go. Her mannerisms, as well as who she is working under being big wigs in congress. I'm sure 99% of viewers knew she wouldn't die when she was shot and would come back taking action and trying to contain the situation that was being presented. So you referring to her "blowing people up out of no where" I don't get because they had complete build up to that scene starting from her asking for convicts with life sentences or worse all the way to them getting to the temple. Even though you didn't know what exactly she was going to do you knew she was about to take some form of action with these steps. As far as twists go if you thought she was dead for good then I don't know what to tell you, guess you get surprised easily and believe everything you are told regardless of the context being presented. Lets not hope that is the case for other shows you watch though. Killing characters "out of no where" is subjective but this isn't exactly "out of no where", you seem to be used to long running anime where characters need 30+ odd episodes prior to dying or at least you make it seem that way. What would your excuse be for movies, or short form factor anime that has a lot of death? It's not even to say the world didn't establish this type of setting it was established that the job was dangerous from very early on and reinstated even when they were at the bar and one of the Devil Hunters rookies died... How many excercism/demon/zombie/slasher/Horror etc type of movies do you know where no one dies or is killed you would probably give those a pass to kill off characters because the setting is established but what about in anime? Why would anime need to follow a different formula all of a sudden? ok, so i dont necessary believe everything needs to be "spelled out" verbatim, however, outside of "her eyes being different" there is almost no indication that she would live a shot to the head and be able to blow people up remotely, she wasnt revealed to be a fiend or have a devil heart like denji or i guess samurai dude, i also didnt expect her to be dead either (kinda like how i obv know how somehow being cut in half wont be the end for our boobie obsessed mc), ive seen enough shounen to know how these kind of shows operate, but the fact that it feels more like an ass pull than something that was hinted at or developed is where i have an issue. and the whole convicts thing, yeah, you can obviously assume they will be sacrificed in some capacity, i got that before it was "spelled out," however, there was nothing about what makima could do period prior to that other than just her being a mysterious waifu bait. the "out of no where" bit, not sure i would honestly call that totally subjective. though i suppose from the asking for convicts as sacrifices, it could be assumed people would die, but the fact they were just remotely blown up, and everyone knew about makimas powers in the show, hence the oh shit moment "wait i thought makima was dead," because the moment it started, they knew what was up, why did they even mess with her in the first place, if they knew all the information about fiends and devils thriving off blood, why would they think they could kill makima in such primitive manners? just seems like a pretty glaring plot hole to me, but whatever i suppose and i know people die in horror, etc, sure, but i still expect it to make sense, the snake demon just coming out of nowhere and destroying everyone, then makima blowing people up remotely, that just was so random and jarring. and yes, i do tend to like longer shows that develop characters well enough on both sides, not to just have people die without me giving a damn, but i have seen many a show that are shorter that can develop a character well enough in 5-6 episodes or less, to the point where i care and it will stick with me for years to come, the fact that some of our main characters up to this point were offed by no name villains just makes me not care anymore Tennebris_Method said: This may be a case of you needing things to be spelled out for you because you're not looking at the surroundings or context of events which is unfortunate.... She even felt bad about trying to kill Denji, it was established she is timid this isn't what she wants to be doing while in action her expression was clearly sad and depressed. She didn't even fully kill the opposition she let them get away. Also why would she be more scared of a bullet than a giant immortal Devil to begin with? I chuckled a bit at your point there not gonna lie. I guess it's subjective what people fear more I guess at the end of the day. It just seems you aren't satisfied with the show (due to it not being for you or maybe you weren't paying attention with this one in particular) I took the time out to tackle some of your complaints or points anyways though. There seems to be a lot more but If you're willing to engage with these I'll break down the other points further. Lastly, I have plenty of gripes with the show myself I don't see it being perfect but I do find it an interesting take. as for this point, sure, its obviously easier to handle humans than devils, but she is a devil hunter, is it not literally her job to be able to fight devils and use those moves on them? which she definitely failed to do and put all of her teams lives in danger? not sure how her being timid makes up for her just failing to do her job and having no consequences for doing so, and also actively threatening members of the teams lives, regardless of feeling bad later, the fact is she did that. not sure exactly what you mean by i need to have this "spelled out." I see perfectly clearly what they are doing, i just dont think they are doing it well. lastly, if she is so timid and would rather be doing other things, she should just do that, they clearly have no issue making characters out to be whores (and yes im aware "kissing around" doesnt make you a whore, but when Himeno takes denji home and tries to fuck him, makes it pretty clear she does more than just the "kissing around" part) glad you liked the bullet vs devil comment lmfao and true, the show is entertaining, for what it is, but it is overhyped to hell and back, dont think its a matter of "not paying attention," but it just not providing the kind of development i care for typically, which is fine, like has been said, its fine for people to enjoy whatever. I appreciate the some of yall taking the time to actually discuss what yall like about the show, now i have a better understanding, like i said before, i still dont like the show and its unlikely my mind will change, and its unlikely my ramblings will change yalls, so it is what it is |

The key is if it's intriguing or compelling enough for the viewers, which in this case of CSM seems to be very successful, at least by my observation. |
| Makima's abilities makes her very terrifying and kobeni also stood out in this episode... Great choice of soundtrack especially reusing ED 3 in start was pretty badass. |

| i loved this episode because i was terrified of makima. during the train scene in kyoto, i felt so uneasy and it only got worse throughout the episode. she genuinely makes me feel scared and im so excited to see more |

Jasev said: how is makima not dead why is kobeni suddenly a badass how will denji be resurrected what is happening 5/5 did you notice the crows in every makima scene? crows in japanese folklore are related many things but one of those things are illusions (remember the crows from itachi's powers) also she makes the fingers like a photographer, someone who is behind the scenes...she problaby is like someone who can alter things/create illusions and so forth; her power must be related to those things, taking a one moment picture and "editing", plus the crows(she might have contract related to em idk just guessing here), so i belive she can bend one instant of reality as she can bend other inmates like they are a dough of meat. also there is that random guy with glasses asking if makima knew it beforehand which means she was predicting something i dont think she ressurected but mainly that she wasnt hit by the bullet as their thought she was. makima my favorite character so far, she giving satoru gojo vibes, but seems fair. |
